    amazing price

  • I’m sitting here in front of my x90j 65” restarting it for the second time tonight already. It’s the only Tv that I regret buying. Might do well if you only use it as a basic screen/display.

I have been using an X90J 65" (bought new) for the last 3 years without problem. Even using the built-in Netflix/Prime apps. I watch 4K Netflix.

      Our family one is great.
Disabled all the apps, ironically switched to to 'app only mode' (which disables 'smart' features outside of dedicated apps), and it's amazing.

Changes channel SUPER quick, TV guide is nice and easy to use, reminders are reliable.
Not much else I can ask for in a TV.

HDMI works reliably for my HTPC\firestick too. A+ here.

      • It's great the tv that allow app only on Google smart

Seems to be an uncommon feature and works much quicker

Not happy with mine either. Bluetooth remote functionality only works once after power tv off at the wall, then stops. I have a chromecast on an older tv that is snappier than the same OS built into the tv.

Looks bent/a dent? Definitely not acceptable.

  • Only 1 year warranty, not worth the risk.

    • ACL; dont worry if they claim its short.

      • Sony will fight tooth and nail, it's not worth the stress and hassle. Second hand items are also different under consumer laws guarantee.

        • in the item description.

Certified - Refurbished: The seller certifies that the item is in a like-new condition and that it has been inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor to meet manufacturer specifications. The product will be in new packaging with original or new accessories.

it's a damaged item with, a bent metal screen frame, and dust on the back grill, came in a dirty box.

Yeah, I'd never buy one secondhand. This deal is an official factory refurbished product.

Ive fought sony once for a TV warranty about a decade ago. Took 3 months, but the ombudsmen sided with us.

New ones only have 1 year too.
      Pretty shitty from Sony.

      • It's their international warranty. Not valid in Australia. A lot of phones (if not all) have one year on the box as well (phones are 2yrs minimum).

I bought the 85 inch 85k for 1856 by using eBay gift cards 3% even cheaper and I think it is a pretty good. You can add apple TV to achieve x90k standard quality with 200 more.

  • Can someone more knowledgeable about TVs let me know if this is a good buy? It's a bit over my budget of $1000, but all the model names between brands are confusing me so I'd rather this be over and done with.

My standards aren't high - I'm using a 15 year old Sony KDL 40x3100. Just want games to look nice on my new PS5

    Cheers.

You may want to understand Full Array Local Dimming first. The X90 series is the entry Sony FALD TV, below that are conventional edge lit. Above the X90 FALD are mini LED and OLED TVs which cost a lot more. I would recommend X90 series as a good compromise between cost and picture quality.

  • I don't think the J to K spec-wise matters too much, but as there are potentially refurb models, the J could easily have an additional year of use on it. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but something to consider.

  • Support Dolby Vision? Any idea on energy usage?

I would avoid Sony's seconds/refurbs like the plague. The TV's are poor quality and/or damaged, and it's just a lot of screwing around to eventually get a refund.

    • My sound babe experience was the opposite. They didn't ship it for weeks and I demanded they don't refund me. The deal was too good. I had to fight for it to arrive.

Then, when it did arrive it was broken. Took over a week or two for them to find out how to resolve it and another month for it to be repaired (plus I had to drive it back and forth).

But in the end, $699 sound bar for approx $320.

  • Anyone recommend a decent quality alternative to this? 65". I'm about to buy this to finally replace my Samsung plasma in the kids room. This seems like a good deal and I'm OK to take the risk re damage/return.

Example is the LG 65NANO75SQA which is about the same price as this but brand new not refurb. I or Hisense 65A7KAU for $995

  • Just be advised that Sony ebay refurbished has a terrible after sales support service. Confusing and down right annoying. But in the end, even if something goes wrong, you could end up with a bargain. Was 3 months wait after ordering my Sony sound until I had it working.

  • Bought one to replace the 65-in Blaupunkt I got from OW earlier this year for $499 (it works but quality is crap and I can't bear looking at it anymore). Hopefully whatever I end up with end ups being twice as good as the Blaupunkt - the bar is not high!

    • Free to air TV upscaling is crap? 4k looked as good as any other to me once the image settings were tweaked. But stores didn't have a FTA aerial attached, so I didn't buy one. Also, fast moving images.. rubbish?

      • I assume you are asking about the Blaupunkt as i have no idea about the Sony until I receive it. The Blaupunkt has reasonably poor colour reproduction and brightness generally despite me tweaking the settings the best I can. 4K is only at 30Hz. Really struggles with streamed sports. I have not managed to find a way to switch it down to 1080p 60Hz which may help. FTA is actually OK. Software is glitchy and often very sluggish to respond. Already has 1 stuck bright pixel. I am not sure what their pixel policy is but 1 pixel for a $500 TV is not something I was bothered to deal with at this time. Will probably end up giving it to a relative.

        • Cheers for this. I was seriously considering, but didn't know about the 30hz situation. I know the lag can be fixed with an occasional long hold of power button, full shutdown/ reset.

          • @tunzafun001: For Netflix etc. it is actually decent but after a few months, I have found that we actually use that TV area more often than I thought, especially with the struggles with Kayo, 9now for sport. So it justifies a better unit (at least I hope that the X90J will be better!).

            • @zoomjc: Id be keen to know how it goes. I was considering one of the Roku TCLs. OS is very simple..so it actually works with zero delay.
