½ Price SunRice Hinata Short Grain Rice 5kg $15 @ Woolworths

220

Apparently, the original price has increased from $20 to $30 since the last time this item was on sale. However, it is still a good buy with a 50% discount if you enjoy the taste of rice, as we do.

  • cheaper alternative compare to the real Japan short grain rice…which is triple the price

  • +5

For those who care, although it's Japanese style rice and branding, the rice is sourced from Vietnam (personally can tell the difference with this vs rice from Japan, but others probably don't mind it).

    • +1

I didn’t realise that Sunriice is branding imported rice as their own now. Was always under the impression that all their products were Aussie-grown

Will need to check the labels more carefully as usual

    • +1

oh, I thought it is Aussie-grown as well.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

  • Not a deal.

A good alterntive for sushi rice is those from Taiwan, which usually retail about $15 for 5kg in Asian groceries. Occasionally you can get them on sale for about $13.

Recently I just bought 3 bags of 10kg Sunrice sushi rice grown in Australia from GCFO for $15 each. Thats half the price if this.

    • Where is GCFO?

      • Gold coast factory outlet?

        • Golden Circle Factory Outlet in Capalaba

  • hmm whats the go, lots of korean grocers reducing the price of their sushi rice too….

  • +8

Yeah I've bought this over and it wasn't good at all.

$3 a kg for non Japanese rice isn't even a good deal. Find your local Japanese grocer and they should have something like Sunrise Koshihikari 10kg for about $40 (more or less). Australian grown usually (although during covid I did have 1 overseas bag)

    • Like always, the real deal is in the comments

  • +2

I know it's inflation but I just can't shake off the thoughts that they used to be on sale for $8
