  • I suppose the pro version is better but why it has two network ports?

    • +2

Can use as a router/firewall apparently, but not sure myself how to do that.

opnsense, but it'd be cheaper just to get a TOPTON mini PC that's purpose built from Ali if you just want to use it as a router

  • Does anyone know what manufacturer of the ethernet ports e.g. intel?

  • Good as a retro gaming emulator (up to N64) on the TV?

    • +1

Should manage, noting that N64 emulation always has some issues.

  • Would this be beefy enough to play Minecraft Java? Modded?

Mine is in the post getting returned, I loved the EQ12 Pro with it's N305 (basically 8 efficiency cores from Alder Lake), 16GB DDR5 and the world most generic PCI-E 1x SSD. My issue was that during gaming (particularly Absolute Drift and Noita) it would crash with a loud screeching sound coming out of the speakers and green artifacts on the screen. I couldn't reproduce the issue but it always happened in games after some time and once while playing with Wallpaper Engine. I followed all of their troubleshooting advice, performed all manner of benchmarks, ran Memtest86 and it always passed, reinstalled the included Windows 11 installation (I backed it up before setting up the device), tried it with the latest drivers from Intel, Windows Update and the manufactrer but it didn't make a difference. Temps never went above 80c on the CPU and the fan was running so I gave up and concluded it's a motherboard/chipset issue, which is a shame because it's quite a performant little box and I just hope mine was bad luck but I'm shy of the brand now. I bought it at $549 with a $50 off voucher off Amazon.

$559 with $240 coupon. This or EQ12 Pro?

    • Depends on what you want it for.

Cheap, low power router/nas/other-light-duties - go for the N100 (or a 5105 based box from aliexpress)

Compact desktop replacement - go for the 5800H - it'll take more ram, and be significantly faster (then the N100).

The N305 is somewhere in between. Given @juzza87 experience of crashes, it doesn't seem that promising.

      • What about as a media/htpc setup for direct play to replace an Apple TV with plex/jellyfin

        • If you're going down that route, then go for the 5800H (or even a 5500U).

The N100 should be able to handle 4K UHD just fine, and plex transcoding should be fairly decent.

But if I was going to the effort of setting up something complex, I'd spend the extra money and get something that will do it effortlessly.

  • The N100 deals are expired, the N305 deal is still valid.
