              • -5

@THL: Yes, I now get all the dummy benefits.

            • +3

@jv: I'm a big jv fan, but this one… could be one of the worst…

Which then also means it's special and one of the best, so… I love it!

    • +4

Well, if you want wednesday, try palace cinema. $10 on wednesday.

    • -5

wtf, of course it is midweek when no one is available.
i need at least friday night - sunday. is this for centrelink millionaires only?

    • -2

Only gives you discount on that sht day

  • +3

Optus is also no longer offering cheap Hoyts tickets since August 2022 :(

    • +3

Didn't know this. I left Optus for quite a while now.

      • +2

That's fine, they (and the whole world) still know you and me….

        Thanks to the cybercrime….sigh…

  • +1

This vs Event Tuesday 1/2 price?

    • I saw that too. But Hoyts is closer to where I live. Athough Event 4DX half price Tuesdays is tempting too.

    • My local events is $10.25 on Tuesdays but I'd rather pay $3 more and get a better experience at hoyts.

        • booking fee
  • Doesn't seem to work properly.
If I log into my Hoyts account then try and buy tickets the Ticketek ticket doesn't show up, can't see the Lux Ticketek ticket at all.
    Yes, I chose Tuesday.

    • For regular ticket: It's second tick box from the bottom when you're on "Choose your tickets" page

Edit: sorry you're after the Lux option. I can see on my end it's $27.45.

      • I know - it's there only for Standard* tickets only when not logged in to Hoyts Rewards.
Otherwise I just get the Hoyts Rewards tickets as the discounted options.
Tried the the two upcoming Tuesdays, different theatres, different movies.

Edit: *Just tried Xtreme and that follows same as for Standard.

  • $33 from Bupa reward - seems like the cheapest so far (after the price bump)

    • -7

Why do people even pay $33 to watch mostly mediocre 2hr entertainment? Among other annoyances

  • +6

I use shop back to buy Hoyts vouchers $14.95. not redeemable on Saturday, Sunday after 2pm. not valid for public holidays. not bad I would say

  • +9

Cinemas used to have cheap tickets on Tuesdays without having to sign up to memberships :\

  • You can still book $13.50 tickets at Village cinemas with Telstra plus. Don't even need to have a telstra connection.

    • +6

$9 with racv valid Mon to Thursday evening

      • +1

It's monday only and price is now $10.

        • +1

It says Monday only and i was able to use it other days too except Thursday evening and after.

        • -2

Damn they increased the price by a $. Better i go to hoyts. Recliner seats with top of industry maintenance unlike stinky village cinemas in melbourne west

          • @hopper: Went to hoyts chadstone tues night. My recliner was missing an arm rest. The void was filled with rubbish. 0/10 maintenance

            • @Lanushi: Last time I was in hoyts at chadstone was 2008, so I don't know, but Docklands hoyts has always good experience since a year

    • Is telstra plus free registration for anyone?

  • I don't want to support Ticketek in any capacity.

Westpac reward's tickets for $14.70 with the only restriction of not being valid Sat & Sun after 2pm seems to be better value.

    • +1

I’m keen to know why you don’t like them? I’ve rarely used them so don’t have much experience with them.

      • +1

What's the controversy with Ticketek @Munki?

    • $14.70 is for the child ticket.
Adult Restricted eVoucher is priced at $17.30.

  • About time they brought back tightarse Tuesdays. Just need decent movies to watch lol

  • +3

At least the Studentedge discount is for Mon to Thu.

  • +5

Surprised ticketek didnt put a booking fee on top.

  • Event gold class is only $20

    • Tightass Tuesday?

      • Nope, anytime in the app as Cinebuzz. Just booked Oppenheimer for a Saturday night.

  • +3

Why do people go Lux when so many regular cinemas have recliners?
    Lux also have smaller screens?

    • +3

My experience is that I'd rather pay a little bit more to get a nicer experience. I've had a few movies ruined by unnecessary clapping, talking, people on phones, babies crying and giants blocking the screen in front of me, in regular cinemas where you're 150+ people deep.

In Lux I can't see the people around me due to the seating heights, so it's more immersive. Screensize is fine, audio is fine. I can and do go to IMAX when I want something massive (Oppenheimer, DUNE for instance), and can put up with the crowds.

A Lux ticket includes a drink + popcorn in the price, and does food+drink+alcohol ordering and seat delivery. Some people, myself included, prefer that experience over the cheapest possible ticket price in a normal cinema.

      • Thanks for the reply.
Silly me I didn't know LUX includes popcorn and drink. for $33, it ain't bad.
Some cinemas have recliners as standard (e.g. Hoyts Chatswood) not an extra (e.g. Event George St). To me they have a great setup and a bigger screen, an ideal tradeoff.

Which LUX has the biggest screen? Might give it a try.

        • +1

Largest screen is probably something the cinema knows, I honestly can't tell the difference from my local (They have 4, a mix of 16 and 20 person cinemas).

      • -3

So clapping can still happen, I guess that’s just the “I’ve got money to throw” talking lol

Edit: nothing has beaten immersive since interstellar, every movie since has only gotten popular due to over advertising.
oppenheimer Is non stop spamming to hype it up like barbie..

      • +2

Each to their own. Ive been a few times and staff bringing food to people around you halfway through the movie really ruins the immersion imo

  • +3

isn't it cheaper to buy via student edge? $12.5 for standard adult tickets and valid for Monday-Thursday.

  • Cheap tickets for Hoyts also in Foxtel rewards and Telstra Plus. Not restricted to Tuesday.

    • +1

Telstra Plus is Event not Hoyts

  • Tue only too restrictive to be useful.

  • You can also get discounted cinevouchers (can't be used sat/sun after 2pm) through AIA

  • +5

Real ozbargainers go to Reading Cinemas. $10 movies all the time

    • How do you get it?

    • Just check Oppenheimer but didn't see any $10. How do you do it?

    • They're so far from me, both 45 mins + drive LOL

  • -1

$33 (plus fees) to see a movie? That is outrageous! Its no wonder nobody goes to the cinema anymore. I guess George Clooney needs that forth house in Tuscany.

    • Yeah it's was $5 early 2000s

    • It's not like there are many movies worth watching on the big screen though…. The only recent ones are probably mi7 and oppenheimer…. Some people spend that much on some drinks on a night out so treating yourself to a movie once in a while doesn't seem that outlandish.

  • +1

Use Shopback to purchase $50 Hoyts gift card with 10% off for slightly cheaper!

    • +1

then do they do split later?

  • We have a united cinema near us and it's only $8 per session all week. Great cinema to. Will never go to hoyts again

  • Senior citizens get the best deal. $9.50 for every day up until 5pm. Buy with discounted gift vouchers from ShopBack for a further 10% off. Hard to beat $8.55.

    • Well it's bedtime for them after 5pm anyway lol

  • +2

Also a similar 'deal' is Village Cinemas - 50% of tickets on Tuesdays: https://villagecinemas.com.au/offers-and-promotions/vrewards…
Just requires you to create an account on there.

Tickets are a tad cheaper than Hoyts, got Barbie for this Tuesday night for $11.50 Adult Ticket compared to $13.50 at Hoyts.

    • $11 at Event so Event wins in price?

  • +1

And don't forget free popcorn refills

Why hasn’t Fair Trading done something about Hoyts’ illegal practices of applying a booking fee per ticket and not quoting it in the per-ticket price? It’s such a wrought and goes against ACCC guidelines for booking fees.

At least ticketek quotes it per booking and it’s exclusively highlighted, unlike Hoyts where it’s hidden at the bottom.

Also if I have a voucher, why do I have to pay booking fees on top? It’s just bizarre.

Surely enough people get the sh*ts with these fees that they go in-person to avoid the fees (which is actually more costly to run).

  • When I was living in London for some years back around 2012, they have the big franchise cinema like Hoyts called Cineworld, you would pay like £14 per month for an unlimited pass. It literally had no restrictions, at the time when they still had 3D, it was an extra 70p for a 3D movie but besides that, it could be a new movie, saturday night, whatever. The only caveat is it was a min 12 months contract. But in the few years I was in London, I saw every movie except the kids ones that ever came out. It was so good, especially in winter, my partner and I would go see back to back movies on Saturday or Sunday. I think with inflation its like £17 now but this is the way. It should be subscription like streaming and you don't ever have to worry about if the movie was good or not because you paying all the same and get to see everything you want.

Student Edge now have $10 Tickets on Mondays to Thursdays until 31st of August for those interested. No need for a student email to verify, can use a personal email to signup to SE.

Webpage hasn't updated to say $10, but email received and offer is applying for $10 tickets on the Hoyts website when clicking through.

    • Not working for me… Maybe it's targeted?

  • It’s Fckn $13 on Tuesdays as Hoyts normal pricing! Suckers!!!!!

  • +1

    https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtel-first/hoyts.html

If you're a Foxtel member, then it would be cheaper it seems, and everyday of the week.
