Is Additional Card Holder Prevented to Apply for Own Card?

Recently got an NAB credit card which came with some bonus points.

Just wondering if I get an additional card for my partner, will that prevent him from applying for his own card and getting his own bonus points later on?

    No

  • Your card issuer will gladly advise their actual policy, perhaps more definitive than spitballing here?

If you’re getting an additional card just to spread out the spend target, might be easier if you added the card to your phone and he used the physical card. Later when he gets his own card, do the opposite.

    • Good idea. Although doesn't Google pay bill has to be less than $100?

      • The POS terminal will ask for a pin if you exceed the limit. If you share the pin, then problem solved.

  • I would think the points are applicable to the account and not the cards linked to it.

If they want their own points, they'll need their own credit account and thus the credit application that's separate to yours.

  • I know with a few other banks it doesn't impact for their bonus deals… I've iterated from my partner having a card and me as additional and back for this reason to get new sign up bonuses without having been a primary cardholder… but haven't had experience with NAB. I guess if too many people do that they will close that off at some point
