I had a quick look at sodastream bottles, they have the 1 PETE (Polyethylene terephthalate) icon on them.
Are these even safe to use?
The dishwasher safe ones might be your way to go if you have concerns: “Dishwasher Safe Bottles are BPA-free plastic – it is not manufactured with bisphenol A or other bisphenol compounds. It’s also Phthalate free and 100% Food Safe” ;)
Can you give a tl;dr on the article you posted? What conditions were met before the PET leeched phthalates? These bottles have a use-by date and a warning not to heat to over 50 degrees.

Great value given that it stacks with the existing discounts on syrups as well.
NB the Jet and the Power are the only ones that use the old (blue) cylinders. The other models use the new quick disconnect (pink) type. Just a consideration if you're looking to do your own CO2 refills or use third party cylinders.
Kegland (and I'm sure others) now have parts to hook a homebrew CO2 tank to the new machines but no DIY refilling the pink sodastream tanks yet it seems, other than the dry ice method.
Has anybody tried the Zero Pink Grapefruit and Lemonade flavours?
Last time I tried Zero Lime and Cranberry flavours and really hated them, but holding out some hope that these might be ok?
I haven’t tried them recently but found that when I tried other zeros the sweeteners gave me a weird aftertaste for hours!
I regularly have the Lemon and Orange Mango. No problems. I only use the first line of the cap which is what they say to use for small bottles but I have the large bottles. Makes the flavour last longer and it's less "sweet". It's just a personal preference for me.
