Massdrop X Sennheiser HD 6XX Open Back Headphone US$179 + Delivery (US$20) + GST (~A$327.91) @ Drop

210

The legendary headphone for vocal timbre, lots of info and reviews in previous deal posts, still holds its own if you want to try mid-fi and aren't concerned with super tight imaging. Don't get sucked into buying extra pads, they are not the stock (HD 650) pads, and not worth your money.

No code, so $10 USD welcome credits should apply for new users, taking it to around $311. Enjoy!

  • Mid-fi?

I mean back in the day it was high-fi, but there's greater sound quality to be found despite it still can be class leading in some ways. The classifications these days are in terms of rough price:

      Budget-fi: $10-$100
      Mid-fi: $150-$1000
      High-fi: $1000-$2500
      Summit-fi: $2500+

If you don't like it, blame the marketing teams in the 80s and 90s who took over the term hi-fi to mean any home audio system with speakers. :P

That and R&D for this stuff has gotten pretty wild in the last 20 years.

I know I’m going to get downvotes for this, but…

Mid-fi is a cringy, nonsense and elitist term. Same goes for people who say ‘chi-fi’. Considering there’s ‘mid range’ gear that can sound better than stuff that costs double or triple, reducing it down to purely dollar value is silly IMO.

I’d concede that ‘hi-fi’ has also lost its meaning however.

    • Trashy term people use to not feel about spending thousands on a pair of cans that sound the same as a pair that's a fraction of the price. A lot of placebo and make believe that plagues people in this space.

Been loving my 58X JUBILEEs amazing headphones for the price, and are 30% off at the moment.

    • Good timbre, but the 6XX are just such a step up for the $44 USD extra it would be. The only thing the 58X would be winning out is imaging, but it loses so much else.

Mostly use them for gaming, so all the more imaging the better, also easier to drive. However yeah, I'd take 6XX if you have the extra $ to spend.

    • Happy with mine, want a pair of 6xx but won't get used in amongst the other dozen pair of mostly unused cans.

Thanks for the reply. I tried signing up with another email, and actually gave me an error just stating couldn't apply discount for some unknown reason. Was doing this on my mobile, so jumped onto my PC and finally worked. Looking forward to getting these now. Cheers!
