Only needs to come down by another 60%

Should be a managed switch for this price.

The f**k are you on about? Cheapest similar switch is ~$220

        1gbps switches are $15 so $50 seems reasonable for a 2.5gbps.

        • Not going to happen for a fair while, 1gbps has been the normal and default standard for over a decade.
2.5g and 10g are only in the past few years starting to come out of the enterprise space without huge markups.

For this price its rather good, Theres still only a small amount of people with 2.5/10gbps cards in there devices.

@JPNx: It's not good, it makes no sense for 2.5x speed to cost 10x.

@MagnamoniousRex: It absolutely makes sense because that's the price 🤷🏼‍♂️

There is absolutely no correlation between the price to speed ratio of a 1Gb switch and the price to speed ratio of a 2.5Gb switch.

No, that's not how it works 😁

This makes zero real world sense.

You can buy entire Wifi 6E mesh systems that cover your entire property for the price of a couple of these switches that would do a couple of rooms. Wifi is infinitely more complicated a technology than ethernet. It shouldn't be cheaper, it makes no sense for Wifi to leapfrog ethernet.

@MagnamoniousRex: You're trying to compare the prices of different technologies, using their performance and cost-per-device as your benchmark for comparison.

But these different technologies all have wildly different metrics - the cost for performance doesn't scale on anything like a linear scale. If you think these 2.5Gb switch ports are expensive, wait until you see the prices for 40Gb and 100Gb ports !

  • If only had one more 10Gbe port, I had one but not as stable as my 8 port tplink 2.5Gbe switch (random disconnection).

    • This has two 10gbe ports + four 2.5gbe. Best price atm. https://www.umart.com.au/product/qnap-2-port-10gbe-rj45-with…

For that price I would go for st5008f (Chinese version of sx3008f) for less and with managed function. I have the xiaomi ax10000 router for around $300 with one 10gbe one SFP+ and four 2.5G ports, and it’s a router with lan aggregation

        • Not really the same. st5008f has 10GBE SFP+ ports only for clients (no Lan ports). While you can buy the SFP+ to RJ45 modules ($30x8 min), it will add up to the cost of ownership for basic network switch operation. Also, cheapest I could find for the switch is around $300 + $240 (for 8x SFP modules) = $540.

    Damn OOS

Been looking at this one or qnap and under $200 is a good price

    • Just sent you a PM, as I might be able to help get you one at the $149 price!

      • +1

if I could get a PM to0 that would be amazing :)

        • Unfortunately I only have one link that will let you get it for the price, If I don’t hear back from macmanluke I will pm over the link as it’s a jbhifi deal link that expires at midnight.

When you're ready for a turbo-charged network experience, simply activate Turbo Mode to keep your online gaming and 4K streaming running at maximum network speeds.

What's the point of that switch? Why would you ever turn it off?

    • If you were using every port on the switch you might not want to have QoS on, as it'll give port 6 (10GbE) the highest priority and port 5 the lowest priority. Not ideal if you were trying to stream 4K on each.

For the average user it would be fine to leave it on.

    • RGB means you're going faster right?

  • Any decent 10Gige switches around?

  • Now only if it had POE as well.. anyone know of a reasonably priced 8 port 2.5gbe POE capable switch?
