Is The TP-Link TD-W9970 Modem/Router Still A Decent Cheapo Option?

Hey all,

I've been having connection issues and suspect my old router may be contributing. I just need a cheapo replacement for 25 speed NBN to do everyday tasks and the odd Netflix. (3 people in the house).

These modem routers were well respected a few years back. Will they still provide a decent wifi experience or should I look elsewhere?

  A $20 Telstra smart modem gen 2 has better Wi-Fi.

  I’ve had various modems in bridge mode for quite a few years & used a dedicated hardware firewall. Currently it is a TD-W9977. Is placing your modem into bridge mode an option? The hardware may be ok, and it may be software letting you down.
