50% off Unlimited Prepaid Data Bundles throughout EU - 7 Days for €7 (~A$11.50) @ Vodafone NL

210

This is a bit niche, but for anyone going to Europe this summer, and traveling to / through the Netherlands, Vodafone NL is offering a ripper deal on their prepaid data bundles until beginning September.

Prices are in the link, most appealing of course is the 1 week option which gives you unlimited data throughout EU for 7 €, this works out to a very competitive ~ 30 € / month.

There are one or two options priced at the same level eg Lyca mobile NL, but based on my experience travelling Europe for the past month in NL, Greece, and Italy, Vodafone is much more reliable and one of the best options for roaming throughout EU. At this price it is a steal.

As far as I know you need to get a physical SIM in the Netherlands to access this deal.

And for the skeptical, just like PwC Australia is not representative of PwC global (or is it? …) Vodafone is a different beast in Europe compared to Australia. Good speeds and good coverage.

This offer is far, far cheaper than travel sim offers (such as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784784), with the caveat of having to be in the Netherlands to sign up.

I don’t know if still available but orange Poland is free for 1 month and lots of data.

    • +2

yeah still available, I got it Saturday when I arrived in Spain. Only included 15GB " roaming" data in places other than poland, but 500mb a day isn' t too bad if your accom has wifi anyway

      • That’s good, I hope it’ll still be around in December. I think 15gb will be enough, but if people need more they can get this Vodafone deal.

Used the Orange deal last month in Sweden, Belgium, Croatia.

      eSIM provisioning. No physical SIM.

    • +3

They still have the Orange Flex 1PLN (~$0.37) for 1 month offer https://flex.orange.pl/en/promotions/1m1.

eSIM via their Orange Flex app.

Worth mentioning though that Poland requires ID verification for new SIM cards.

Q: How can I confirm my identity?
A: Option 2: fun with photography. You just need to take a photo of your document (ID card, passport or residence card) and your face (i.e. a selfie). Importantly, we don’t store these photos – we only need them to verify that you are the owner of the number. And afterwards? We delete the photo. This option is designed for adults.

      • This is a great deal if you don't need as much data, has it been posted? Should be a standalone deal

        • +1

          Yes it has

    • You’re right. I’m in Croatia with orange card from Poland. As long as you are in EU country it works brilliantly. I signed up for 3 months with 300G in Poland and I have 15G for outside poland must be in EU. It was about $21

  • You could buy these physical Sims on eBay pre covid.
And they lasted 18 months which was awesome.

Don't see many on eBay anymore

  • thanks, i did not know this! I live in the Netherlands actually :D

For those interested in this deal, you can pick up a sim card in the shops or have it delivered to your hotel.

And also another deal possibly worth mentioning, Vodafone Spain always has good deals. For example their prepaid €10 for 50 GB or €15 for 100 GB. https://www.vodafone.es/c/particulares/es/productos-y-servic…

You can roam with any EU provider in all EU/EEA countries. Vodafone is more lenient than most; they include the UK, Switzerland and Andorra (and maybe Monaco).

And even more niche deal I got (and signed up) from the Dutch version of Ozbargain: €5 for 10 GB but requires a 2 year contract: https://nl.pepper.com/aanbiedingen/hollands-nieuwe-sim-only-…

Anyone have any recommendations for travelling to Greece?

    • +2

Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, two nights in Athens.

      • +2

Santorini is good when you get away from the crowds

Mykonos - great if you are looking to spend €€€€€€ for everything. Think 100 € for a couple of loungers on the beach. Otherwise crap. I suspect most people on this site would think very little of Mykonos.

My recommendation: Syros, Naxos, Paros, Koufonisi, Iraklia, and if you want to party hard: Ios.

        • i went to santorini for 1 day. it was full of tourists, chaotic, there were just people walking up and down everywhere and people lining up at the same spot to take the same photos - you know those instagram shots with the out of proportion hat and dress looking away from the camera.

i didn't have a nice time - it was also quite hot and i got a heat stroke. mykonos is a party town and that's pretty much it… if you're into party towns ibiza is better i'd say, there's a bit more variety if you don't wanna go party.

i heard from a couple of greek colleagues, they said go to crete and more specifically heraklion for the nature and chill vibe.

          • @iSamurai: You really have to get away from Fira and Oia to enjoy Santorini.

    • If you are talking about SIMs - it depends where you are going. Only one particular carrier whose name escapes me has good service throughout the Cyclades. Vodafone's was hit and miss.

      • Mainland + Crete.. I'm also interested in any deals on sims that work ok there

        • +1

Honestly just do the Orange deal. It’s <$1 if first time, and $~25 AUD if paying full price, and the roaming switches between all the operators to whatever has best signal. Only downside is if you need >15 gbs

          • +1

@MaccasAU: Just read through the Orange deal thread. That's amazing, thanks. Sadly will still need to look for something else bc need physical sim cards

            • @Horacio: No problems. Can definitely recommend if an option in future. Hope you have an excellent trip.

        • +1

If you're going to Crete make sure to hit up the southern coast. Rural and authentic, it's worth the windy bus ride.

          • @sween64: Well thank you, I was wondering about that, family may not appreciate an entire trip spent looking at ruins and broken old pots behind glass

            • @Horacio: I enjoyed southern Crete due to the beaches, fishing, seafood and restaurants, also some nice hikes.

If anyone has some recommendations for a niche use case regarding my parents, please let me know.

    -eSIM for ~2 months
-Different EU nations so roaming data will be majority of use
    -ideally >50gb or unlimited

  • Can you buy orange esim in oz and activate it 3 months later when you arrive in eu

  • PwC Australia is not representative of PwC global - global is worse.

Just like the other consultancies. Simply going by all the white-collar sweatshops across Asia. For decades. Have had first hand horrific accounts. 80 hour weeks for less than $10 a day…

  • Does this require any ID verification?

Looking for something with high data limit for Europe without ID
