My Mk 1s are getting pretty tatty now but I just can't bring myself to dump them in favour of these. Massive backward step by Merrell.

    Honest review (from https://www.zappos.com/product/review/9409858)

"…I have several pairs of Merrell's and have always enjoyed them. This shoe is complicated. This shoe is really dark green, not charcoal. I was ok with that. The shoes are comfortable enough. The lace color was a bit light and too long but I thought I could work around that. However, after looking at them in the light of day, these shoes revealed their true inner style which may be better suited for bowling or clowns….".

I still own a pair of these clown bowling shoes that are great for my casual ride to work into an empty office so nobody sees how bad they really look

      • They still have the old version, for a mere $5 more.

        • Interesting. I had a pair of the old version a while ago. liked the look, but never felt comfy. Flt like there was a 'gap' (thinner sole?) under both big toes or something, was a weird feeling.

          • @andresampras: I think I know what you mean, the shoes have a firmer mid-section for cycling, which then has a slightly odd feeling around that. I wouldn't recommend running in them or probably longer walks, but I found them perfectly comfortable for cycling and short walks.

          • @andresampras: I found the insole on the original a little thin causing the rear of the shoe to rub the back of my ankle. A decent pair of insoles fixed that for me.

Just bought a new (charcoal) pair of the Mk 1, to replace my ageing black pair. Thanks OP.

            • @Orrelljet: oh nice. what insoles did you get?

Always wondered how people buy 3rd-party insoles, seeing as you can't try before you buy

              • @andresampras: I bought some Florsheim gel insoles. They’ve worked flawlessly for years but I’ll likely buy whatever is most convenient for this next pair. The Scholl pair my wife uses in her new balance runners look good enough so a larger pair of them should do nicely.

    • Indeed, they look like suited for bowling, boat and light casual walking, they don't look strong enough for everyday use.
Clowns are those who don't know how to do online shopping so they should go to shops like Myers

  • Not free… can you buy 1 or 3 shoes or are these prices for 2 pairs? So confusing!

    • Next you'll be telling me these have no actual wheels

  • Merrell "Freewheel 2" is the style name of style featured in this promo

I've never come across this rigidity before.
