    • dam it, i just worked beofre

      • Oi Elon, can you spot one for the OZB boys?

        • tryd it again and it worked, the charger stayed the same price but cable went down, maybe becuae i did it mannually, can i post a picture somehow?

These guys had the gen 3 wall connector for $698 a few days ago … so the combo doesn't seem that great to me.

Now if I could get a 4m 11kw cable for $150 alone that's a good deal to me.

  • yeah, ineed a cable the wall charger and the cable that plugs into the wallplugs at home for holidays

  • Excuse the noob question, is there anti theft feature on this charger/cable if you leave them charging in public places?

    • +3

The car ports themselves lock the cable into the port when the car is locked

    • +1

Teslas lock the cable into its charge port, and have to be unlocked from the car touchscreen or phone app. Not sure about other makes.

    Heads up.

"NOTE: As this cable operates at 16A, when connected to a single-phase charger this will result in a maximum charge speed of 3.6kW - this is expected behaviour."

I made this mistake, don't be like me.

They really should advertise the amp ratings rather than kw for this reason

      22kw cables are 32a = 22kw on 3 phase or 7.2kw on single phase
      11kw cables are 16a = 11kw on 3 phase or 3.6kw on single phase

      • +2

        Exactly
        I'd like a bargain on a 22kw cable though :)

      • There are no new cars that support 22kw, and also 90% chargers are 3 phase. these cables are thin and light

But 4 meter is a big NO

    • my electrian said public charges are all 3phase, but my house is 1phase so the wallcharger will give more power

      • I am in the same situation, single phase. I wonder what would it cost to upgrade it to 3 phase.

        • +1

I was told i t isnt worth it,, have the sleep sometime i guess

        • +1

I asked Synergy (WA) about upgrading my supply to 3 phase. I don't have a written record but from what I recall it was definitely not worth it. You can charge your car to full overnight at either 7kW or 11kW, it doesn't matter.

      • +1

You get 7kw on single phase and 11kw on 3phase

  • I would go for the 22kw cable instead of the 11kw.

    Like this https://evse.com.au/product/5-metre-type-2-to-type-2-ev-char…

Or the one direct from tesla https://shop.tesla.com/en_au/product/mennekes-type-2-adapter…

    • can Teslas charge faster than 11kW?

      • Not on model 3 & Y. Only older model S can.

        • thank you, so I'm fine for my modely then

          • +1

@Fredbloz: the 22kw cable is rated for 32A per phase, which makes it suitable for single phase 32A (7kw) chargers as well. This is not the case of an 11kw cable which is only rated for 16A per phase. It has it's advantages.

            • +1

@Heybargain: just asked and there online chat said the main advantage was that the cable is lighter and easier to handle but will charge the car at the maximum speed from public chargers

      • +2

No one in the right mind should buy a self-limiting 16A cable that cuts charge rate in half in so many public chargers.

  • +2

    It's $750 directly from Tesla…. how is this a deal….

  • +2

4 meter cable is a big NO
11kw cable is a big NO NO

  • This might be useful for those looking at cables: https://www.solarquotes.com.au/blog/ev-charging-cables/

  • The type 2 cable is a little short & expensive. You can get a 5 metre 22kw cable for $230 from evse. https://evse.com.au/product/5-metre-type-2-to-type-2-ev-char…

    • I've found I'm typically only about 1 or 2metres if not closer from the charger port when i park, still havent got it yet though

      • there'll always be a time when the charger is ICEd or you wished you had a longer charging cable.

        • or i just put on my bigboy pants and find another spot, i mean i have power athome.. the cable is just for when the oppertunity comes up…heavy fines for IcEing now, can't wait so see $2000 tickets on windsheilds :D

  • jetcharge just posted this deal publically on theyre facebook page ,apparentlly are also doing 22w cables, got my 11w cable tho…its really lightweight
