Is it one of those things where it's better to never update the device?
With the first gen of this camera they made person detection + notification a subscription feature, out of nowhere when it was perfectly fine.
Just replaced it with a TP Link / Tapo.
Would avoid this in case they decide to pull features after you’ve paid for the camera!
Does the person detection work well enough for you? My Tapo C210 detects any movement as a person (cats, plants moving in wind, etc), I ended up turning it off.
Haven’t had an issue with it! Are you sure you’ve turned on the notifications for only person detection?
Weird. Yea, only person detection. I was playing with zones on it the other day and that didnt seem to work either; I may have a dud!
Can I use this as a webcam?

I used to have an earlier version of this camera and unfortunately had to dispose of it soon after.
When it worked, it was good, however the biggest issue was software updates via the app. Updates notifications were constant. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would not and it reached the point where the device was bricked and unrecoverable. Other friends have had similar issues with Swann.
Anecdotal, the most reliable feedback I have had are those who have Arlo and TP-Link.
