  • can this be used as a watch?

    • I was also wondering if it can be used as watch without having to wear the cheststrap?

      • Yes.

This will be handy to 'test' my heart and see if I'm gonna die from all of those free HJ whoppers I've been eating lately.

    • Why not buy something decent like a GME TX3100which you can get with an aerial for ~$250. It's smaller, a reputable brand, Australian made and 3 year warranty….

      • That would be 2.5 times the price, doesn't really compete in that respect.

        • 250 dollar is 2.5 times $20?????
Or 12.5 times the price you mean?

People seems to have varied experience with longevity. I got mine last time it was on sale pretty much this time last year and it's still going strong.

Shouldn't Profession mode make you run like "Usain" Bolt?

Anyhoo this is great value, my $150 one died some time back and a $19 replacement sounds just the ticket for me, my one had 101 features but at the end of the day the only ones I used were the 3 heart zones (included) and time (included) … hopefully it has beep modes for entering the heart zones so you don't need to look at it too often and it'll be great.

    • I think that was the OP's joke…

      • My bad. Well thanks for sharing the deal none the less OP, it had escaped my attention (much like the joke) so I would have missed it otherwise.

      • +2

probably was, but probably thwarted by auto-correct.

Yes, it beeps when you're out of the zone to your heart rate. You can choose notification for when you're above the zone, below the zone or both iirc.

  • Is it possible to use this chest strap with other watch's? I have a garmin gps watch I use for running and was wondering if I could just buy this for the chest strap?

    • Chest belt also works with many standard fitness devices (analogue transmission 5.3KHZ)

I used to run fast if Dad got his strap out…

  • Would be interested in grabbing one of these if we had an ALDI in WA.

Anyone recommend something close to this price/quality wise available on-line?

Well it's midday and I'm already onto my 2nd of these. The first one came with a dead battery and this one has numerous issues, firstly one of the buttons sprung off, the heart rate started showing before I'd even put the chest strap on and it doesn't go into clock mode as per instructions included. So I'm about to return it, not risking another replacement.

Also in the manual it states limited water-proof, the shower is a no-no which is another negative for me coz I always forget about removing watches. Sadly the $19.99 price tag shows in the build quality unless I've just been unlucky.

    My first post!

I got this heart rate monitor today. I was testing it while gardening and the pulse reading seems accurate. I think you have to set the clock first before you can go into clock mode. I agree build quality isn't great - I see a little glue where the silver part of the watch face meets the black outer casing (where the buttons are). But so far for the price I'm happy with it. If I find anything else I like/dislike I'll update the post.

Picked one up today. Pretty nifty for 20 bucks.
Does anyone know if this thing is supposed to stay on 24/7? Never had one of these before, but it seems excessive to not have an off switch on either device.
Also, is it essential to use the gel they say to use in the instructions?

    • I think the strap uses ECG signals to turn itself on so it doesn't waste power. The watch only starts when you press mode. Otherwise it's on standby mode.

mudkipz, that's a good question. I would have assumed it would power-off after a while of not being used. If this is not the case then maybe it's on always to remember the settings. Mine is working fine, it took me a while to figure everything out. The only problem is the light isn't working - I'm guessing the battery is low. This is the first heart rate monitor I've ever used. I used the belt with water today and it was fine, I don't think the gel is essential.

    • Yeah, I used a bit of water too and it worked fine.

Mine's been running for over a day now on the time setting. I guess it's supposed to stay on at all times, like a digital watch.

  • I was surprised to discover that this works with Life Fitness treadmills and elliptical trainers. You don't need to pair it or anything. Just start working out and the machine will show your heart rate. Most gyms I've seen have Life Fitness machine so this is awesome.

An issue I found was that the heart rate seems to be slightly delayed. Not sure if this is my imagination or not.

For example, my heart rate was at around 130bpm while doing squats, then shot up to 160 after I've finished.

Also, the gel is not essential at all. I just use a bit of salty water and it works well.
