Just got rejected from my store for not having the physical vouchers, phone not fine :(

        Apparently it's 'being abused'

        • Apparently it's 'being abused'

Considering how high the prices have become on the vouchers that just seems like turning away sales :/

          • +1

@sss333: Thought it was a bit of a joke, why would they have pdf versions if we can't show on the phone.

  • +1

Sorry but hungry Jack's vouchers are poo now and have been for the better part of the last 2 years. KFC deals are better even with the inflation.

    • Chips as chips meal is now $24.95 in KFC it used to be $21 2 months ago so they are not that good either

      • … is there anything else which is better? Or is it still a good deal?

  • The corelation beteween intrest rates rises and Hungry Jack price rises are uncanny.

  • AUS 1 - TAS 0

  • Regarding the plant based whopper with small drink and small chips meal for $7.95, does anyone know whether HJ would allow you to swap the plant based whopper for a vegan whopper?

    • In the past you could freely swap between Whopper, Rebel Whopper and Vegan Whopper with these vouchers. Then they changed it and the voucher was Rebel Whopper only, it actually said it on the voucher. This lot of vouchers though, that text is gone so maybe give it a go?

    • Last time they subbed a normal whopper for vegan cheeseburger, I think they were or had phased out the rebel. Haven't any idea why not tried the new one.

    • +1

Can confirm as of 12 of July they are still substituting whoppers for plant based whoppers (2 for $11.95 "deal..)

I say sub for a rebel whopper at the box and done it a few times, no fight back from the staff. Imagine they will stop it or swap it for the veggie pattie one instead which tastes worse. No way I'm paying $8-9 dollars for one if they remove it from all deals.

      • +1

That's lucky considering they removed the 'can be substituted for rebel's from the fine print (considering they aren't called rebels anymore).
Was good when it was two for $8, not really worth any more and agree that the vegan cheeseburgers are the best.

Not as bad for you as meat but still junk and unhealthy.

  • And what the hell excluded tas. I tried the previous vouchers and they turned me away

  • +2

Anyone have the actual hi res PDF file of this? Love to keep some in my wallet and some in the car. Rebel Whoppers for the win!

    • +2

I was unable to find the PDF. If anyone does, I'll update the post.

    • -1

used their app? They have these sorts of deals all the time on it.

  • +2

HJ's selling point was, better quality than McD. The bean counters found a way to save a cent here and there to get a bonus. HJs is going down the toilet

    • +2

Personally thought mcdonalds was slightly above HJ in quality, chips wise HJ are definitely better

      • +1

My experience is HJ chips are always better, but I ask for no salt to avoid ones which have been sitting in the tray so they are freshly cooked for me.

For the overall quality I’ve had great and disgusting burgers at both. McDonalds soft drinks are always flat around here. Overall HJ are better. Also depends on the store definitely avoid HJ Darlinghurst and McD St Leonards.

  • +1

I ate 2 whopper and it was still not really full. HJ getting more expensive.

  • Pretty ordinary discounts

  • HJ Vouchers has became such a tragedy. The deals are crap and no one uses the "is phone fine" comment anymore

  • +8

    This is not a bargain

    • -3

Can't do maths? RRP single item is $8.80, vs $12 for two?

      • -4

        $8.70 in my area
        $9.20 with cheese

A McD's triple cheeseburger with bacon and tomato is $9.25 in comparison

  • +2

We're never getting the bacon deluxe vouchers back are we?

    • +1

Regularly see it in shake n win when I get bored and played with the app. $4 each.

  • -1

I really don't understand all the hate against HJ…
Are you expecting to pay the same price as like 5 years ago, when everything else around you has gone up in price, including your wage?
I remember in 2017 the minimum national hourly rate was $18.29. From 1st July of 2023 it's about to be $23.23 an hour.
A BBQ chesseburger was $2 and a Chicken Royale burger was $3 according to the Penny Pinchers menu from 24th October 2017 I have just found on frugalfeeds…
They are now respectively $2.50 and $3.50 from the regular menu, at least at my local HJ…
    You guys need to chill.

    • +6

Minimum wage may have increased but most salaries just above the award have barely moved in a decade. I'm in the finance industry, and my wife in the construction industry, and there has been essentially zero movement. Minimum wage has to increase based upon many factors, the primary being CPI increases, but many businesses are choosing to actively ignore salary increases as they give their employees just above the award and then they don't need to make changes. Meanwhile, as you say, everything else goes up in price, not least of all mortgages. I was fortunate enough to recently change employers and this year finally copped a 'sort of' increase, a generic inflationary increase of 3.5%, which to be fair in a normal year would be around standard, but the past year has not been normal, and inflation is approximately 8% (as noted by the RBA, real world inflation is actually known to be much higher somewhere between an estimated 12%-22%). So, technically, even with a 3.5% increase, with inflation being 8%, I'm in fact earning 4.5% less than I was last year, in real terms.

I don't disagree when you say we can't expect to pay the same as 5 years ago, and the 50c increases to the aforementioned burgers is a fiscally socio-economic 'win' as it were, however it is still a 25% increase to go from $2 to $2.50 and herein lies the problem. We don't place much emotional value on 50c, but when everything rises by between 5% - 25%, like BBQ cheeseburgers, bread, milk, haircuts, t-shirts, fuel, electricity, internet, mortgages; but real wages don't increase, it hurts. It hurts financially, which then manifests mentally, emotionally, and even physically. Albeit that we can't stifle inflation by paying people more immediately, as it would defeat the purpose of increasing the cash rate to discourage consumer spending, however the RBA is seemingly fighting fire with fire, by increasing cash rates and therefore ROI, the large elderly population are taking advantage of this and becoming the new major consumer base, effectively just moving the financial pressures to the working population, but I digress.

We, the OzBargainers, and indeed all Australian's only yearn for a simpler time, when bargains were plentiful, value was valued, and the burgers were truly better at Hungry Jacks.

      • +6

So… Essentially the government and RBA in their incompetence decided not to normalise interest rates and control prices when times were great, debt got way out of hand and here we are. The same government flooded the economy with free money too, now you expect free market business to take the hit?
People need to get real, that's the problem. Everything has been so good for so long, most people complaining today are those who still tip piles of money into stupidity like cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, cars / holidays / entertainment they can't afford, convenience like this fast food trash and other personal loans and credit cards. These are the people complaining with their hands out. No one is willing to give up something when times get tough, nor will they pull their fingers out. There's literally work everywhere! No excuses. Australia has been in such a sound economic position for so long, most working adults today have never experienced genuine hard times.
I agree that mortgage holders are being left holding the bag, but again, the government need to find other ways to get smart about inflation. It's not 1991, we have boomers stacked with capital and a growing 2 class society. The people running our nation are out of ideas and completely reactive. It's pathetic.

        • +4

Completely agree with this comment @R00D, 100%. They should have been steadily increasing interest rates back in late 2018/ early 2019. Instead, they did the opposite and decreased them. I vividly remember having a conversation about how stupid a decision it was to continue to drop them whilst already so low, a little short term pain for some long term gain was needed. In a moment of spooky foreshadowing, I actually did a presentation at work about the reasoning as to why it was hugely detrimental to our economy to continue to lower the interest rates at the time, but most homeowners were just cheering it was going to save them an extra $50 that month on their mortgage. I suggested that if the cash rate fell too low, and something drastic occurred such as a war, global natural disaster, or pandemic, that would force the RBA to reactionarily and drastically drop rates even further to soften the immediate blow, but the medium to long term ramifications would be severe. I have literally had colleagues hit me up in the years since asking me how I knew. I didn't, it was a wild guess, and prediction, and crystal ball gazing in economics is oft futile. Unfortunately my doomsday prediction came to fruition, and I remember so clearly all this happening as it was the last thing I was working on prior to getting married in 2019.

The RBA needs to stop saying that their only weapon to fight inflation is increasing interest rates. It's simply not true. The have neglected to face into the wider options of selling of bonds, and there is also some Keynesian economic theory (adjusted of course from inflationary to deflationary) which could be implemented such as government forcible price ceilings and active control to decrease industry monopolisation.

Could not agree with you more, boomers have big monies, growing wealth divide, government/ RBA/ old mate Philly 'cheese-steak' Lowe are out of ideas and are just reacting now like a toddler throwing a tantrum when you take their ipad away. At risk of over-indulging in current event, the economy is like the Titanic. You can't just make a last minute turn to starboard and expect you'll miss an ice-berg that is dead ahead. You need to see it a long way out, and start making the manoeuvre half an hour early. Let's hope the Australian economy doesn't end up at the bottom of the proverbial Atlantic.

    • So just trying to apply your logic - wages went up 27% but the muffin, hash brown and coffee deal went up 68% plus removed the coffee? Materials, utilities and rent must have increased a lot given the discrepancy.

    • Wow, 9 upvotes and 9 downvotes at the time of writing this.

  • +1

The last time I went to Hungry Jacks with a voucher they said they didn't accept them anymore and stopped it a while ago, this was in WA. Not sure if that's true or not but I was disappointed.

  • +2

Newbie here, how do you redeem these vouchers online?
Or is it in store only, if yes then where do I get the paper vouchers?

    • +8

      Hi Newbie,

Sadly, you can't redeem these vouchers online. When going in store, or drive through (thru to the layman), simply quote the deal to the server, and they will oblige. I have done this approximately 150 or so times over the years (yes, I am very, very fat), and have never once had an issue. If you do run in to an issue however, just have the pdf/ jpeg on you phone, and show them the coupon, and that should suffice. High quality versions can usually be found on Frugal Feeds. It's unlikely that the 15 year old serving you is going to argue further than showing them the coupon on a device.

Best of luck, and good eating!

      Kindest regards,

      Aussie-Jabba

      • +1

Thanks mate, will surely try next time

      • Got rejected today when I said I only have it on my phone as they dont deliver the paper vouchers to my place anymore.

    • Before our local store closed it used to have a pile of paper copies on the counter though one manager used to hide them so you had to ask staff.
Some stores like Circular Quay always refuse the vouchers and you have to ask for a manager and some staff there will tear the voucher off so it can only be used once.

Most stores are ok with just mentioning the deal
It’s just a matter of working out what they do at the stores you use.
      Good luck

Just went in store and ordered 2 whoppers on a voucher - I'm in WA, they said

we don't do paper vouchers anymore and it's not on the computer system to enter either.

I even said it doesn't exclude WA, and she wouldn't budge so I paid full price.

I later called another HJs nearby.. Who instantly said they accept vouchers from today.

Just gonna call HQ, and let em scald her a bit for the fuukup. Get me full refund/replacement the usual when someone at takeaway fuuks me over lol.

Nevertheless it's good they're back in WA. They must've had a decline in sales and that their app went down for like 2+ weeks.

  • Any better nontargeted deals from KFC and Macca?

  • Where are the bacon deluxe burgers?

  • +1

Problem with HJ is that the nearest shop was closed 3 years ago and the nearest one is about 11 km away 😠.

    • So was it closed or not?

  • +7

The best thing about this vouchers is me not using them and I'm not eating as much junk food

    • +1

      So what's the neg for?

  • +2

Large onion rings at my HJ cost $5 but the vouchers bring them down to $4.95. ;)

    • Wow what a bargain!!!

    • That's like some of the "Reduced For Clearance" prices at Colesworths stores.

  • -1

Anyone here still not received their $10 Shell fuel voucher from their failed promotion about 6 months ago? I am thinking of giving up chasing them for it. Not worth the time.

    • +2

So what's the neg here for?

      • For being expensive with the latest offers and also for scamming me.

        • -1

So you must have some cheaper alternatives, I guess.

Don't keep us hanging and share, please.

          • @pizzaguy: Why do I need to look for cheaper alternatives when I could just quit eating junk food?

            • +1

@DarkOz: Because it's OzB and we're looking for deals instead of having a plebiscite on who should prefer what…

If that's not clear, picture it like:
              - you see there's a better deal: downvote, constructively, because people should get the other deal instead,
              - you don't like the product: maybe drop a note and move on, nothing else to do here for you! Like this person.

              • -2

@pizzaguy: Who do you think you are to tell me what to do or what not to do? I got scammed by this company so I negged it. I think that's justified. This is my very first time negging any deal ever. If you have a problem with my neg please report it to a mod.

    • +1

Yes, but it took quite a while and we had to contact customer support to ask why it hadn’t arrived. They said about 3-4 weeks. In your shoes I’d send an email. Good luck!

      • Thanks for that. I will email them one last time and forget about it.

  • Nothing special.
I bought a Whopper Junior and Chicken Royale lately with phone app for $7, they are similar size but Whopper Junior cost $7.50 by its own.
    They are overpriced.

  • These vouchers make kfc and oportos look good

  • Are you seriously telling me this post got a legitimate 100+ votes in 18 hours when the only comments are people saying the prices and product are an absolute joke?

Same thing happens on certain KFC posts. Something stinks here and the votes should be audited as a once off to try understand why this happens. If you don’t start looking into this the fabric of this once great community is at risk.

The only reason this even gets posted is that people just want the upvote points on their account.

    • -2

      Paid up votes

    • You can see every voter and their profile for transparency on every deal by clicking the votes tab.

All posts are checked by automated systems to flag suspicious votes, in addition to mods manually checking votes and voters as well. We take even a single vote by an associated user very seriously.

If you spot any suspicious voter or commenter you can report it to mods.

It may take time for community feeling towards these deals to change; or deals may still receive a number of upvotes despite being more expensive than prior, but still valued by a large number of people. Time/votes will tell.

  • Sorry OP, nothing against you, but these vouchers are not even worth posting as a deal anymore……sad times.

  • We used to mix HJs and KFC 50:50. In the last year I've probably been to HJs once and was so disappointed the Colonel is now my go-to. I also throw in GYG salads when Im feeling like ive over indulged at the Colonel.

  • I think these deals are quite good. 2 toasties for $6 is good, I had one of their toasties earlier this morning and it was very tasty. Also the Turkish roll with hash brown is good value for $5, plus I like their grilled chicken burgers. However, for whoppers you can get a much better deal with the Shake n Win on the app, quite regularly you can get the whoppers for $4 each with the Shake n win.

    • I feel the grilled chicken burgers suck now. Remember eating em back in 2000s and tasted a lot better.

  • Thanks for sharing OP, but unfortunately there's nothing worth getting at this jacked up price.

  • Looks like they removed the disclaimer on the 2 whoppers for $11.95 that allowed you to swap them for 2 rebel whoppers. Now to get rebels ("plant based whopper"s now) on voucher you have to get the meal deal for $2 extra, so for two revels would be $4 more (but you get 2 sml chips and drinks)

  • Horrible

  • How do these shit deals keep getting 100+ upvotes?

    • -5

These companies have recruited shills on OZB, feels the same about so many other deals.

      • That's not true. See this comment.

      • Tinfoil hat vibes.

The same companies whisper stuff to your ears when you sleep.

Now seriously, where are my dollaroos for upvoting this one?…

  • +1

Thanks for posting Op, now the North Sydney store is long gone we don’t receive them flyers in our letterbox.
Seems like further price increases and not much worth buying anymore.
Didn’t really notice much difference recently when the app went down for ages and then the Potts Point store was closed due to problems with their grilling equipment as shake’n’win rarely spins freebies and the best app deals have disappeared. Great incentive for me to cut down on the junk food.

Do HJ's have the official vouchers on PDF? I cannot find it on their website.

    • +1

I could not find it either.

  • Why did they print the normal prices on a voucher ? Lol

  • drinks cost cents yet there are few coupons that give you a drink, says everything when you buy a 5$ coupon meal but have to pay 3$ for your drink

  • +1

$12 for 2 whoppers!…I prefer a foot long pizza sub for $9. At least that fills me up.

(no need for crude comments I have said them all in my head already)

Subway isn't that great anymore, quality decline. On a good day whopper tastes great.

      • +1

Standards have dropped across the board at all fast food places in recent years. Just comes down to individual stores. Subway nearest to me is great, the HJ's is garbage. Go two suburbs over and the HJ's there is fantastic but the Subway is an absolute dive.
