Picked up one of these on fb marketplace for $250 last night.

Last deal they had 200 filing cabinets for $30 each, still 200 left… They dropped down to $10, and still 200 left…

I guess they try it on, and see if there's any bites…

On the West coast this would almost be a deal. On the East coast this is a rort

All items are sold as seen - once the item has been picked up no returns will be accepted

If the wheels fall off 2 days later will you just refund instead?

Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), businesses have obligations to consumers that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified. This includes guarantees for the acceptable quality, fit for purpose, and accurate description of goods or services, among other things.

"All items are sold as seen - once the item has been picked up no returns will be accepted (inspection is recommended)" suggests that the business is trying to limit or exclude its obligations, which may not be legal. Even if a consumer has inspected the goods, they still have the right to a remedy if the goods fail to meet a consumer guarantee.

"It is important that retailers and other suppliers have these matters checked by a lawyer (with appropriate expertise in the area). The consequences for non compliance include fines of up to $1.1million for companies and $220,000 for individuals"

        @ALMIRA

Are you able to clarify your position on the above.

        • +2

hey, it's me, the OP. heh, silly 'laws' and 'regulations' lol

        • -1

Yes no problem call store or come in we can have a face to face chat.

          • @[Deactivated]: Why not just clarify it in public? Why would you create a public post but then attempt to take away such an important conversation to a private place?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Awesome! will drop by next time I'm down that way.

In the meantime can we get some point of sale material addressing s54(4,5,7) ….

        @ Heaps for Cheaps
"All items are sold as seen - once the item has been picked up no returns will be accepted (inspection is recommended)"
They should qualify this with the usual disclaimer BUT you missed this important caveat:

        Second-hand goods
The consumer guarantees apply whether the goods are new, ‘seconds’ or second-hand. Depending on
factors like price and age, it may not be reasonable to expect a second-hand product to last as long or
perform to the same standard as a new one.

        • lgaf, I hope you don't run a business or have any role in managing one!

But as you seem ignorant of the law, you should know that it is illegal to mislead people about their rights in regards to consumer guarantees.

          • @Heaps for Cheaps: You obviously don't, or at the very least you have zero concept of supply and demand and its effect on price. Two things are indisputable: (1) You haven't got a clue how companies buying up used office furniture (or second hand goods in general0 etc operate. (2) What you know and understand about consumer law as it applies to second hand goods could be written on a pinhead.

It is pretty obvious what they'e saying with that line about "no returns". As I suggested, to be strictly legal what Sustainable Office Furnitiure requires is to add the typical website qualifier that "this does not override consumer's right to remedies according to ACL" (or similar words). As you know, such qualifiers appear in the warranty statements on many websites selling NEW products. They refer to statutory warranty, without actually mentioning a consumer's rights under that provision. Ergo it's up to a consumer to know their rights.

$450 to smell someone else's fart/bodily fluids. and you have to go pick it up yourself lol

    • +1

If they have photos of previous occupant, this has all the potential to be a great money spinner. Think japanese panty vending machines.

Some people are into scent of office ladies, some people are into fat dirty gamers. Marketers today must cater for diverse tastes.

I've got some frosted ice cream for you…and it's non dairy

If they have photos of previous occupant

Mine can with a photo of Margot Robbie

I had to pay extra for my chair…

        • +1

It will have higher value once you pass it on. Make sure you tell them it's a JV.

    • +1

Can you offer a similar quality chair that is less used and delivered for the same price?

Alternatively, you could purchase a new one for $2,345, but you'd probably complain about the price.

      • went to their showroom in tokyo. was pretty meh

  • +2

$450.. for a used chair… I mean its AWFULLY TEMPTING, but no.. no thanks.

    • I paid $700 for a used chair (Herman Miller Aeron) and have had it for 17 years, only replaced the gas lift last year - still going strong.

Would do the same for these HM's also (been sitting on them for years at work). Definitely worth the money IMO, when $1500 is the retail going rate.

      • price used to be 1500 not for awhile I think.

  • +1

Anything someone would recommend in the $250 price range?

    • +3

This store has a history of dropping the price if they don't sell, so maybe just wait & see. Ozgumtree.

  • +2

i really need one.. but not at 400…
250 is fine/ secondhand is fine too

  • +4

@ALMIRA please reduce if you want to sell at ozb
otherwise this is just advertising.. and we are ozbargain not ozbads

    • +1

Presumably you mean a special Ozbargain discount? Seems reasonable.

      • +2

yeah, i mean they come here, give us something special i know we will tell our brother and sister anyway so not really a secret promo but hey the attitude is much better, than just come advertising something that already there for public to see

  • These regularly go for auction in Adelaide. 6 months ago theyd hit $350-400, now they cant crack $250 (with arms).

Tells you the state of business.

    • Where do they go for auction in Adelaide?

  • Are there any of these types of shops in Brisbane at all?

    • the valley/new farm has lots of fancy furniture shops

  • +2

Couldn’t you just do this on Facebook marketplace or something?

  • +1

Google search results show they have sold for $325 from the same seller. See the third result down.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=HERMAN+MILLER+MIRRA1

    • Don't know how much price difference it makes - and I could be wrong here - picture seems to show without arms?

      • You can get this chair with / without arms. With arms cost more.

    • Good Morning yes we have no arm for $325, we even have others reduced to $200. You are welcome to check our webpage all are listed.
