    this thing is a behemoth

    • +1

      Still smaller than a 4080!

      • +5

        It's actually bigger

        • It really is huge, I helped a mate build a PC recently and this barely fit in the NZXT H5 Flow, had to finesse the front fans to get it in with a few mm to spare.

    • Yep extremely poor engineering

  • +1

Can i play Sims 4 on this?

    • I played Tetris 4k with this

    • +2

      But can it run cysis.

  • Do i need a swimming pool for this?

  • +20

Price is still batshit crazy, people seem to have forgotten what things were like before GPU's made Bitcoin and COVID made people spend all their entertainment money on buying stuff.

    • +2

      The 2080ti was $1900-$2k+ in 2018

Right in the height of one of the crypto booms

        • -5

          Right now, crypto is booming.

@B3: But GPU rigs are obsolete because of resource requirements arrayed computing.

          • +6

@B3: is this boom in the room with us right now?

    • this is actually a fair price for AMD top tier card
we paid this much for 6800 xt 2 years ago - even more

if only 4080 comes down to this level

        • -1

Why bother, 3 years ago the thought of a pandemic was impossible, and printing wild amounts of money creating insane inflation..

        • -1

Inflation has gone up by like 20% in the past few years, no chance prices can be low as they once were

      • I paid $1029AUD for my 6800xt on launch.

  • +4

same price at UMART and you get Resident Evil 4 with it.

    • Which would be better in terms of customer service if I ever need to RMA it?

      • +1

I've done a motherboard though Centrecom. About a year after purchase went dead. They checked in store and put RMA through. Was without the computer for about 2 weeks. Not many questions asked (which is interesting as I also fried the CPU which I bought from another retailer).
Pretty happy with process, although I would of preferred a direct swap/refund on the day as it took a while to go through.
Have also used the local centrecom to diagnose a few issues. Although they advertised a fee for the service, they wouldn't charge me.

Finally pulling the trigger. Have been running a 7900x and 32gb of DDR5 RAM with a 1060 6gb and finally going to upgrade the GPU to match

    • +2

Jesus 1060 to a 7900 XTX will be a massive jump in performance, satisfaction guaranteed

      • +1

Mate, you don't know the half of it. I can't play AAA games and watch Youtube on the other screen at this point. Can't wait. Luckily Umart had the same deal so I can pick it up locally.

        • Was this the result of just trying to upgrade in small batches? Couldn't imagine having to deal with this big of a discrepancy between components. I went from a 1060 3gb to a 6600XT and it's been great, but I've just pulled the trigger on the preowned 6800xt cards that were on here.

          • +4

@IslandBreeze: I bought pretty much everything else together. The graphics card was just wayyyyyyy too expensive, didn't want to hand in my ozb license so just played the waiting game.

        • gratz!!!! i am at the point watching other ppl upgrades and actually getting use out of their gpu makes me happier, compare to mine just sitting there doing nothing despite the fact i have all the time and beast of a pc. sigh what time does to ppl.

Have they fixed the issues with VR, or will it have issues with the upcoming quest 3 as well?

    • +2

I hope they fix it, but historically speaking, firmware/software/driver fixes for stuff like this are exceedingly rare. Don't buy this expecting a fix will come.

    • +1

i only play PCVR and use VD, seeing the patch notes from VD plus all the little inconvenience in daily encounter really pushed me away from AMD.
their hardware/raw performance/value are good, but when it comes to compatibility….. it is a totally different ball game….

    • AMD just rolled out a preview driver, potentially fixing VR performance. Reddit Post

I'll probably wait for someone to review the new driver and check the VR performance before biting the bullet.

  • Does it run Striking Vipers X ?

    Bad deal

Because of Centre Com's huge surcharge, cheaper to buy delivered from BPC or pickup from Umart/MSY

Prices have also begun dropping in the US during the past week

    PowerColor Hellhound currently US$830 / AU$1230 ex GST / AU$1350 inc GST

Without the Res Evil 4 license, true price is AU$1299 inc GST

Synnex and Ingram are trying to maintain the Australia tax for a few more weeks until Amazon force their hand with Prime Day

    • wrong.

        Wrong

Hellhound example is not a deal price for delivery to Australia, it is an example of where pricing is heading over the next month

        • +1

          bodied.

        • +1

          DIP socketed

    • Isn't powercolour typically a lower tier/cheaper aib? So being $100 cheaper isn't too unsurprising?

Definitely not saying prices aren't coming down however, just talking about this specific case.

      • +4

I thought Powercolour or Sapphire where the EVGA of AMD gpus?

I've been out of the game too long..

        • +1

          Not Powercolour

  • Does anyone know if they fixed the high power usage issue for multiple monitors on these cards (the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT)? I know that was an issue at launch, and still seemed to exist 3 months ago.

    • +1

Still exists, issue varies by # of monitors (2 or 3+), monitor brand, VRR enabled or disabled, resolution and refresh rate

Issue with 3+ monitors is at the hardware level and cannot be fixed until 7950 XTX at the earliest or more likely, RDNA 4 / 8000 series

    • It hasn't been fixed, it will never get fixed. AMD has never been able to write good software. They even did a software rewrite from the ground up 15 years ago to try to fix that, and for all their efforts maybe 2 bugs got fixed.

      • I don't know why you got negged. I've had a 6600xt for over a year and yes the drivers are awful. They are the main reason I would sell the card (nobody even factors the inferior drivers into their decision lol). I'd probably get more stable fps in Hell Let Loose with a 3060, also pubg/fortnite run like trash. All UE4/DX11 games run like trash on it. Most of the fanboys negging comments are teenagers who only play minecraft and animal crossing.

        • +1

Maybe my frustration came through, but I've been annoyed by this since like 2002 when I bought my first Radeon. ATi (and now AMD)'s incessantly shitty software has enabled the ridiculous situation we have now with GPU prices because it prevents AMD from competing and allows Nvidia to price gouge. Graphics card sales data bear this out.

  • +2

I don't get why they don't make a card like this 3 slots. It takes more than 3 slots so why not give it that extra structural support?

  • +5

Genuine question: How come the ChatGPT user is allowed to have a special font for all their comments? Are other ozbargain users able to force their font choice onto everyone else also?

    • +4

      They're just cooler than us

      • +2

        Don't worry, mystery solved ^_^

  • I will wait for the 8900 XTX

    • +3

imagine thinking there won't be at least 1 more X next generation.

I'd bet somewhere asinine, like 8X900 XTX.

      • +2

        thanks for the laugh, xrailgxun!

        • oh… (profanity)…

      • +1

I legit used to have an XFX GTX 275 XXX Edition card (Vin Diesel powered!)

  • It's too long for my case, which is a shame. Looks like the 4070TI is my best bet.

    • what case tho? some like the NR200 can easily fit something bigger than spec

    • Maybe build a mainframe room like in the old days. That's the backwards engineering step these cards have taken

  • Price drop to $1439
