Welcome to the ultimate guide of Spotify subscriptions!

ATTENTION 07/07/23 onwards: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP after I finish some transfer tests. Testing is now complete, and all test transfers are successful via VakıfBank. DO NOT use Aktifbank until further notice. Please see updated instructions on the Xbox post to transfer into OlduBil. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.

Like literally every guide I've made, I spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of this method (I tested transfers from Wise into OlduBil) as well as screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). The good news? Spotify Premium is at an ALL TIME LOW! Perfect for those who couldn't sign up with the Google Pay method!

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

The processes below are very easy, just take it slow and you'll get there! Just remember you'll be saving hundreds at the end of the day.

Turkey VPN and Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 26 June 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. If you already have a Turkey based Virtual Mastercard, proceed with the following instructions. If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, STOP HERE and see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047.

Turkey based Virtual Mastercard REQUIRED

Notes: The Spotify sign up pages will be in Turkish (which is easily navigatable if you have some common sense). Feel free to translate the page to English otherwise.

  1. Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).

  2. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

  3. Go to the Spotify Premium plans page.

  4. Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.

  5. Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

HELP POINT: Because the popup payment windown cannot be translated to English, here are screenshots of the process in the following order: (1), (2), (3)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Spotify sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I listen to Spotify?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you use Spotify Premium. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Spotify without a VPN.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Spotify account, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: Is signing up to Spotify Turkey going to affect my Spotify library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Spotify catalogue/recommendations may be weird with brand new regional music, etc… but your Spotify catalogue will adjust to what you’re listening to and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

I wanted the family plan again, but if I have to do a month individual plan and then can move to family that would be ok
Can also just cancel the individual plan before it kicks in and try when the current plan is done.
Thanks again for all your help with these posts! We my money arrives to Oldubil tomorrow will be getting the PSN and Xbox plans going too

          • +1

@BargzPls: No worries and best of luck. Hopefully you transferred enough to cover all these services!

      • Thanks, might just give it a bit more time since cancelling and try again tomorrow

  • Wise requests taking pictures of my passport and face with your phone. Is it safe?

  • Are there a different set of steps I need to follow for a Duo subscription please? or the family one? Thank you

  • So i did the transfer from revolut to oldubil on the 30th june.

4days later in revolut it still says leaving for recipients bank …we still need time to process your transfer sorry for the wait.

i assume normal becuase of this public holidays? or should it have left revolut already ?

    • It's because of the Public Holiday's. My payment was "received by the recipient's bank" @ 1:17 PM AEST today, but hasn't showed up in OlduBil yet (I confirmed the details are correct too, unless I missed something).

    • I got an update from Revolut an hour ago that the transfer was successful after a few days, just waiting on Oldubil's end now to put it through.

    • so money finally showed up in oldubil after 6 days

      cancelled my premium

      vpn to turkey straight away

chose premium with new virtual card

all members still appear to be there .

will test out but looks good

      thanks op

      • +1

my first 49.99 TRY got taken out today from my oldubill card for the premium sub

$2.87 instead of 18.99. So good.

all appears to be functioning same as before..
i see some turkish suggestions on my home page if i scroll down a bit but mostly my stuff I've listened to

Money is in OlduBil now!! From Wise.

  • Money finally showed up in Oldubil! The process worked with no issues!

    • Could I please know whether you used Wise or Revolut and when you transferred the funds?

I sent mine on Thursday, received an email that the transfer was successful but nothing in Oldubil yet.

      • +1

Sent from Wise Tuesday last week > Wise confirmed it was successful today at 4 pm> showed up on Oldubil today at 5 pm

      • I sent it through Revolut on the 29th. Has just appeared in Oldubil in the last couple hours.

  • Transferred on 28/06 confirmed by Revolut on 03/07 it’s been 5 hours now and I’m still waiting on the damn OlduBil to wake up from the holidays

    • Is your money show up yet?

  • +2

Just FYI for those who are trying this, the transfer from Wise to OlduBil took a bit longer than expected for me (6 days). However, through now.

One tip I will give (I am not sure if @I Smell Pennies wants to add it) for those using family accounts. Once the family manager has created the account, switched over to the Turkish new plan, is to leave the VPN running and switch all of the family member's accounts over to the Turkey country in the account profile. You need to do this step prior to signing up to the family and using the Turkish address. Took me about half an hour extra working this extra step out…

    • What if we already have a family account?

      • Yep, that's what I did. Just the plan leader/boss needs to stop the subscription. When the subscription stops, everyone gets booted out of the 'family' and goes to free mode. Once you have done all the stuff to create the new Turkish family, you add everyone back into it.

        • what if we don't change family's member to Turkey before we invite them?

And, If the family manager just unsubscribe from the plan and let's say we still have 3 days before the current subscription expires, we can just simply change our location to Turkish and re-subscribe? before everyone got booted out?

          • +2

@charliechao: That's what I did - no one was booted out as there was still time remaining on the subscription.

            • +2

              @epicstalker: same here.
              cancelled premium
              vpn
chose premium with new turkey card
              family all still intact

              • @mgtra: I got my family subscription successfully transferred to Turkish now.

But, I can't change my region as it greyed out, therefore I can't invite other people into my family, how do I do that??

                • @charliechao: im not sure… my family stayed intact as i cancelled then renewed a few mins later on the vpn.

have a read through these comments some people in your situation

                  • @mgtra: Weird thing for me. As I can’t change the location from Australia to turkey, I can add my family member(all location in Australia) without getting them connected to vpn and all the hassle.

  • Received money from Wise but not Revolut yet has this happened to anyone else?

    • Mine both have arrived today

    • Mine only Wise received, not yet for Revolut. Done Revolut for 28/6, Wise on 27/6

  • With Revolut, I had my previous transfer from 28/06 come in at 5pm today. Realised after fee's I didn't have enough for the 12 month Individual plan. Sent the extra at 6pm and
    received again at 9pm.

  • Do we need to fund cleared in oldubil before we do the transfer?

  • Slowest money transfer in the world, 6 days and counting

    • It's still same day transfer if you do it before 5pm AEST. Looks like you missed the reason from the connecting post:

28/06/23 1:00pm - Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer. - thanks to @netsurfer

  • Anyway to use this method to pay for a icloud+ subscription?

  • Thanks again to ISP

Did anyone else get charges fees twice? (Wise and Oldubil?)

I transferred TRY 340.25 on 29/6 and Wise fee was TRY40.26

Finally got the money in my Oldubil but there was fees again!
TRY299.99 received but they chargued me TRY18.75
    "TL Yükleme Masrafi (Banka)"

So I have to transfer more money to do the one year Spotify individual account

    • +1

I didnt use wise, but i sent over 861.26lira and paid fees of 31.26 in revolut, Just had the cash show up in oldubil and it's onlt 778.12
So it looks like i got charged a fair bit.

      • Ok thanks for that

    • +1

Yes I got charged twice with Revolut

      • Thanks for that!

    • +1

I was charged by both wise and oldubil.

But now I got 12months prepaid spotify premium :)

      • Thanks that!

  • Can some one offer some help, do we used a turkey address for the family plan?
I have tried with an Australian address a Turkey address, VPN of and on but get an error saying I'm trying to connect from a different country.
    Thanks

  • +1

Yeah there are a lot of fees to pay that should be mentioned in the original post

  • Good work! It works can this be used as hack to buy other apps at economical cost?

  • Done. Thanks ISP!

Used the 115 lira left in my wallet after the xbox gamepass deal.
As a YT music subscriber, I only want this so I can get songs on my Garmin watch (shakes fist at lack of YT Garmin app), for a few bucks, might hold onto it.

  • omg it worked
money took like 4 days to transfer from wise to oldubil
but deets in to premium plan and it worked
    thanks op!

  • Money took about 30 mins from Revolut, thanks so much.

  • Got 12 months of Spotify, what can I spend my remaining 154,70 on?

    • +1

Top up some more TL when your 12months almost expires than resub another 12months

    • how did you do that?

  • Every month the money will be deducted through OLDUBil turkey account? I put 377 lira in it…

    • Yep…just top.it.up bit by bit as needed…I read somewhere in the thread that you can't withdraw from oldubil so don't have too much in there

      • top up would be very expensive, as Wise have high fee on transfers and conversions, then Oldubil charges 6.25% on top… .. How to get it straight away for 12 months?

      • so i added 377 lira in it

    • I did it on my existing account and the algorithm and front page looks the same as before. Only the music suggestions in the regional tab are Turkish

  • Thank you @I Smell Pennies for all the hard work and clear explanations it help me so much in this difficult time. Thanks again!

  • Great guide! I had issues with Netflix as none of my AU cards would work, but I’ve now moved it to OlduBil without issues thanks to this guide.
I also sent money direct from my bank rather than via Wise. The rates were slightly more favourable and less fees, however the Wise route was a lot simpler.

  • How do I do the 12 month prepaid Family option as opposed to month-to-month?

    • Can you prepay a year? I thought it was month by month only, and the point was that we'd load up Oldubil with a years worth of TRL?

    • Only the personal plan is pre paid

      • Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I saw some comments saying that they prepaid for 12 months and was hoping to do that. Month-by-month it is then!

Also, when it asks at the last step to confirm your address for the Family plan, can we all put our real address or do we need to put a Turkish address in?

        • -2

Well of course it needs to be Turkish lol. Just put a hotel in Istambul or whatever, as long as everybody put the same address

  • Has anybody worked out how to get a 1 year subscription to work? I see some discussions relationg to buying a gift card but can't see where to do it. My account is now in Turkey and on the low rate. It would be nice to pay for a year in advance for piece of mind.

      • Yeah, I just can't see the 12m option for individual or duo anywhere.

          • @xwx: Awesome, that link worked!

          • @xwx: I tried the link but it does not give option for 12 month payment. Is it no longer there?

              • @xwx: @xdpx
yes, only the personal has available 12 month option. The duo subscription no longer has 12 months prepaid. I need the duo in order to get my wife into the same subscription. Thanks anyway.

    • just finally got my money transfered into oldubil from wise (started a week ago). and then simply pay with the turkey virtual mastercard, it couldnt get any easier.
then make sure you select yearly plan, both my accounts are subbed so i dont know how to show you where to find it, but it is there, a bit hidden, 299TL is the price.

  • my family members accounts got an email asking to verify, is it safe to do so?

  • Thank you legend. The 6 of us on my family account thank you!!

  • Do you need to change your region to Turkey if you originally signed up to an Australian Spotify? I added my Turkey based card and everything went through fine 29.99 TRY. But my region still says Australia.

    • Would also like confirmation on this. I cancelled my family account, enabled VPN and then re-signed up using Turkish mastercard successfully, however my region is still set to AU. I'm wondering if it'll all fail on the 25/07/2023 when my current premium period expires unless all family members change their region to Turkey?

  • getting "Oops! Something went wrong, please try again." when putting in card details :(

  • Interested to hear the stories of people who have changed over a family sub.
If Oldubil is already setup and funded (via Wise or Revolut)
    Did you then just:
    a) use the VPN to "fly to Turkey" on the main account,
    b) swap the Spotify country to Turkey and then
    c) add the Oldubil card as the payment method and remove the existing Aussie CC?

I'm paid up until later this month, and want a seamless experience if possible.

Was each family member required to "fly to Turkey" as well?
Did it then cut over and auto charge the next month?

I'd rather not setup a new Spotify family account, but if I have to I will.
Seems very much cheaper - I'm just getting a strange error with my phone number setting up Oldubil, so looks like I have to fund a cheap prepaid to handle this.

    • +1

Heres what i did for family sub.

      waited till oldubil was funded.

cancel my spotify (still had a day or so left in the month before it wouldve renewed)

then 5 minutes later vpn to turkey

      go here
      https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/Premium/#plans

enter in the oldubil card details

      thats it done

      vpn off

seems to have kept all family intact and no problem so far. first payment in TRY came out

  • Has anybody managed to get the student plan working with Australian credentials on sheerID?

    • Yes

  • Amazing deal.
Anyone knows where I can find a fake Turkish student enrollment letter? 🤡

  • Just tried this but getting an error on the Turkish end.

I've got a year's worth of funds on my Turkish Mastercard.

    I then follow the instructions:

    1. Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).

I've logged in with my premium Oz Spotify account, is that correct? It expires next week.

Do I have to cancel the previous subscription?

Do I need to stay logged in?

    2. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

      Using PIA.

    3. Go to the Spotify Premium plans(spotify.com) page.

OK, I get to the Turkish Page.

    4. Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.

I click on the Individual Plan (Your current plan)

But I get "Sorry, you are not eligible for that plan. Here are some other ways to get Premium.

      None of which work?

Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

    Help!!

    • I cancelled my subscription….waited for it to finish then signed up with Turkey

  • Just curious how long should i expect to wait for funds to appear in Oldubil? The money has left revolut this morning

    • Keen to know as well. Money left Revolut about 1hr or so but nothing received in Oldubil yet

  • +7

ATTENTION: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.

Also ps I will get to all your comments above later very soon, been so busy over the past week! I appreciate all comments, feedback and concerns.

    • +1

Hi ISP, so for us who have transferred to this bank, is our money lost now?

  • Further to my failed attempt yesterday, got an email from Spotify overnight:

    "Hi

To protect your Spotify account, we've reset your password due to detected suspicious activity.

You need to create a new password to log back in. Just click the big green button."

I would have thought we would need to completely log out of Spotify, then give it a day, then log in as Turkey?

Otherwise they're going to get suspicious of a 5 min travel time ?

  • Does anyone have suggestions for a free VPN to use to get into Turkey to do the transaction?

I have always used Tunnelbear for YouTube, NBA League Pass, NFL Game Pass. But Tunnelbear doesn't have a Turkey option, and want to avoid paying for a VPN just to use it for the transaction. Thanks!

    • +1

Urban VPN worked for me. Both on phone and chrome extension

      • Will give that a go when I Smell Pennies gives an update on what bank to use! Thanks a lot :)

  • Can you pay the turkey subscribe fee with a Australian credit card?

    • Needs a Turkish card..
      Use oldubil from the post

  • +1

amazing! worked a treat!!! thanks for such a thorough guide and keeping it updated too!!!!!

  • Confirmed working using the new method! Transfer from Wise had money in Oldubil account within 5 minutes! Thanks I Smell Pennies :)

  • Its not working using revolut using the new bank. Something about region contains unsupported characters. Anyone know how to solve this issue
