I've been doing a mountain of research into these short throw projectors recently and my conclusions are as follows:

These are all ultra short throw projectors which typically are more expensive than normal long throw projectors but much more convenient in terms of space and cabling. Bear in mind I haven't actually seen any of these running in real life and am just looking up reviews and user comments. Plenty of people say that these projectors can be very impressive and there have been big price cuts recently which makes for some tempting choices.

A (modest) weakness of all of them is they are build to project in 60hz so struggle a little with panning affects in movies being played at 24hz. This is a pretty minor thing overall 99.5% of the time but I've been putting up with it for a long time with my current projector so would be quite happy to never see it again after an upgrade.

Best is this model for $4799.

Seems to be good at nearly everything and decent at the remainder of features. Has HDMI 2.1 ports and Wifi 6. Also Official Dolby Vision support which nothing else has.

Second best is the Samsung Premiere for $3995. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/782330

Pros: Triple laser = Great colour & Picture. Has the best chipset (0.66-inch DMD ) while all the others use 0.47-inch XPR. Very quiet.
Cons: Only available at Harvey Norman Marion. Bit old now so only HDMI 2 rather than 2.1 and Wifi 5 rather than 6 (not a huge deal perhaps but still a disadvantage). Seems to have some screen door effect that annoys some people even though it shouldn't. Relatively laggy for gaming.

Third would be this which I haven't spent that long looking into but quick conclusions are.

Pros: Very good skin tones. Good for live TV broadcasts. Has some HDMI 2.1 features.
Cons: Uses colour wheel rather than triple laser. Some complaints of screen door effect and distracting noise (decibel) levels. Very difficult to find out what WIFI it has, if any.

Fourth would be the cheaper Samsung SP-LSP7 projector for $2450.

Seems to be like the $4k model but not as bright, not as much colour, bit smaller picture limit.

In terms of value for money that $2450 model looks like sensational value really. The rest are all perfectly good value also, depending on your priorities. Like I said, prices have come down a lot recently so these are some tempting offers around.

The one thing I didn’t see in your comment is the screen. These are very important for these UST projectors.

    • Thanks for sharing.!

I wanted actually 2019 LG HU85LA which is well-rounded to me, but it seems discontinued 🥴

    • The Samsung LSP7T is really bright in a dark room even without a screen. Theres also another Ozbargain regular UST protector on the lower end of the price range - Hisense PL1H thats been seen sub $2k on occasion.

The other pro of the LSP9T (Triple laser) is that is has the shortest throw distance amongst all these projectors. It only needs to be approx 20cm off the wall to project 120 inch picture. (The Hisense and the other Samsung is double this at 40cm while the LG is in between at 30cm). This makes a big difference if you dont want the TV cabinet sticking far from the wall.

The LSP7T at $2.4k is that legit? Has anyone actually been successful getting a big box store to price match this?

    • Not sure if I missed it but are you missing a model for your third point?

Also I would like to get your opinion on this projector on a hardware perspective :
      https://www.digitalcinema.com.au/optoma-cinemax-pro-4k-uhd-h…

I’ve heard the software is crap but if you plug in some tv device it should be okay??

I think he is referring to OP projector

        • I definitely missed it then 😂

  • Up to 100 inch Screen

    No thanks. 130" is minimum

    • There's nothing stopping you from putting the projector a few cm back to get a bigger picture aside from your ceiling height and TV cabinet height. I've seen the lsp7t project 135 inch from 50cm off the wall. That's with a 40cm high TV cabinet and 2.7m ceiling and top of the projection is just below the ceiling architraves.

This is where the shorter throw ratio of the lsp9t triple laser is good as you can do the same but with the TV cabinet much closer to the wall. It could probably do 150 inch if it's projecting from the floor.

      • Would that reduce the sharpness

    • why 130?>

      • You get best experience in both imax and movie formats

        • could you explain how or where u worked that out?

  • Can I sideload 3rd party app on this LG WebOS?

    • Don't stress, just buy a chromecast.
