How else do we prevent these CCP Muppets from upvoting this combustible garbage… ?

        • More to the point, how do we prevent muppets of whatever persuasion from spamming the thread with numerous links to the same sites?

          Refer below.

Seems like we are paying a fortune seeing how BYD is making them and dumping them in fields to rot in China.

  • Should be OzDriveAway…

Actually I won't buy any Chinese brand cars no matter petrol or electric.
    BYD, Great Wall, .. etc

    • Volvo, MG.

RRP is not a deal, and the MG4 is better value than the Dolphin

    • it depends. if you want sunroof, 360 camera and don't mind drive it like a Toyota, go for a Dolphin. If you enjoy driving with rear wheel drive and don't mind the less refined cabin, MG4 is the way to go.

I would test drive both and make the call.

From the event at Sea World

  • Not a deal. Stupid RRP price.

  • Really tempted to get this as my current car has basically died. Was hoping for some useful comments in here, as I don't know much about cars, but it's mostly a sea of people either hating on it's design, "wah wah the see see pee", or posting conspiracy-esque Youtube videos with some random person raving on…

It sucks that the Victorian EV subsidy is going away after the 30th of June, because I don't want to rush into making a decision. I prefer smaller cars, and apart from the potential safety considerations (i.e. being able to accelerate faster means you can over take faster), I don't mind the acceleration speed of 12ish seconds. The car seems like it would fit my needs - mostly suburban travel, and the occassional trip to Ballarat from Melbourne. My parents are happy to lend me their ute or the chonky family car if I need a bigger capacity vehicle for whatever reason, but this seems like it could handle a day trip type road trip from Melbourne easily enough? Will have to read more about it…

The MG4 is almost exactly the same price, but it's significantly more powerful and has a bigger battery.
There's no reason to look at the BYD as long as it's priced the same as the MG4.

      • BYD has wireless charging, sunroof and 360 camera and that will be appealing for some. MG is good car too but you pay more for the top spec.

      • Thanks for your response. I somehow managed to miss this comment woops. I've taken a bit of a look at the various specs, though my lack of interest in cars beyond "is it a functional tool" has been hampering my understanding.

Again, given my use case, is a significantly more powerful engine neccessary? Most of the time, I'm driving through suburban roads where the speed limit increasingly has gone from 60kmph to 50kmph. There have been more and more 40kmph zones too.

That said, I have been looking at the Dolphin Premium, and stats (battery, torque, power, and time to 100) wise, it seems pretty similar to the MG4 Excite 64 at a similar price (though some people have said that the dealers can be quite sneaky and jack up the driving away price). The Dolphin is slightly smaller, which is a plus for me, and it comes in a really cute pink colourway. The Dolphin also has a heat pump, which is apparently good in winter?

With all that said, I'll probably wait on the ANCAP rating for both of them to come out, as that's another factor to consider.

    • Personally I'd get the MG4. BYD do make good EV cars, they just haven't released them in Australia - likely because we're too small a market (plus we're RHD).

This is RRP and with half a year delivery time

As much as I like EVs and their technology (esp. combined with solar charging at home) they are all overpriced - this was the worst by just undercutting it by $100 compared to the MG4. BYD/ EVdirect must really think their potential customers are stupid. Not a deal - just RRP.

    • Being $100 under is cynical headline grabbing shenanigans.
Look forward to the day we reflect on these overpriced gadgets. Chickens will come home to roost and there will be egg on faces.

this is going to be my new work car. 17km each way, all local traffic. i love new car smell. i don't want a used car that has been molested by the previous driver. i don't even want to know what nasty things the previous owner did. that is why i only buy new. used cars are like used underwear, i have no desire to every get one.

    • How about a car that molests you?

    • i love new car smell.

Do you really ? It's basically just plastic fumes, I find it smells horrendous to the point where I excessively keep the windows open 🤷🏼‍♂️

For40k it's not even consider cheap. I doubt these disposable cars will worth anything after the warranty period.

  • 0 to 100 12.4 seconds, styled for the blue rinse brigade. Do yourself a favour buy something else. The $100 more expensive MG is a far better buy.
