Just checked Amazon account, paid $33.62 for this, in October last year….(plus I think 12% multibuy discount on top, $29.58)
I have one and don't think it's worth $40.
In my limited use cases i've found it does the same job as a $20 ratchet bit driver.
Like pretty much everything from paper plates to cars, spending more has diminishing returns.
Personally I buy higher end where I can because it's typically not made in China, does feel a bit better to use, it'll last forever (I don't buy high end tech for this reason), and I like to support companies making good quality.
But majority of things are produced in China or developing countries (every phone etc) unless its a niche item
There are options made in other countries.
- pots: essteele, italy
- pans: de buyer, France
- knives: global etc, Australia/Japan/Europe
- tools: wera, Europe/Japan
- glassware: pyrex, France (some)
- jeans: rm Williams, Australia (some)Just a random selection off the top of my head.
But yeah typically lots of tech is from china.
Depending on your intended use, that’s true.
Disposable items can be very subjective.
Paper plates, disposable cutlery or napkins? There’s a huge difference between low end and mid range
Toilet paper? Same again. Needs to be a minimum with that.
Tyres are another disposable item where low end, cheap vs mid range are just not worth buying.
Purchases made for daily use over 4+ years I’d always spend more
Cars, Tools, etc…
Buy cheap, buy twiceYeah, but diminishing returns. A cheap Chinese tyre probably puts your life at risk, and an entry level continental for an extra $50 will be a massive improvement.
Going from an entry conti to a SportsContact6? Much less value for money.
I was just saying a $20 ratchet handle is more like an entry conti, and this $40 one is more high end. Personally I'd buy high end, but value wise the $20 is probably better. It's the $5 one that'll be junk.
Good tools are rarely worth the money on day 1, they end up being worth the money when they're still working properly in 15 years.
The rule remains the same: buy a cheap one and if you use it to death, buy a good one.
$17.50 more and you get bit storage & the bits on the actual screwdriver which is a bit (no pun intended) more handy (imo).

Bear in mind the handle/grip is much larger to accomodate the bits. Plus the bits in the handle can fall out easily when you pop the handle open. I had it and returned it for these reasons.
Fair point
great ratchet
Best way to get different sized long bits? Phillips and slotted. I've found it very hard since buying this product
Might be good with this set on sale too…
https://www.amazon.com.au/Wera-05057434001-Bit-Check-Metal-P…That's the combo that i got and saved an extra 10% for the effort.
Just checked my Amazon purchase history….
Paid $24.54 for this less, 12% discount multibuy, $21.59Yeah, apparently I've got a lot of Wera tools, from Amazon, on special…..🤷🤷
So sad I missed out on the original deal That was amazing!
