  • To get Dolby Atmos, cable must be at leat 2.1 version?

EDIT: Oh, someone beat me to it already.

  • These are very good. Get the hdmi 2.1

OK, HDMI is my "special subject" on any game show, so my apologies for the below.

On the Amazon page, Snowkids use this tagline: HDMI Cable 4.5M,hdmi Snowkids Ultra high Speed 18Gbps hdmi 2.0 Cable 4K 60Hz,3D Support,Video 4K UHD 2160p,HD 1080p, and I take issue with the Ultra high Speed part.

Under HDMI.org specs, you can only market your HDMI cables as "Ultra High Speed" if [it has] support for all HDMI 2.1a features including uncompressed 8k@60 and 4K@120. The cable’s bandwidth supports up to 48Gbps… (https://hdmi.org/resource/cables)

It's a small thing, particularly as it seems they only use that for boosting the Amazon listing, but it bugs me because people should equate Ultra High Speed with the 48Gbps bandwidths, not 18Gbps ones.

Not to say that there might not be anything wrong with this cable, and some might even pass 48Gbps HDMI 2.1a signals, as a fair number of well-constructed, sub-5m cables will actually do it.

I don't have experience with any of the Amazon brands of HDMI cables, so I can't recommend one from there that's HDMI 2.1a capable. For work, we use everything from Pro2 at the cheapest end, through Blustream, Wyrestorm, AV Pro Edge, HDAnywhere, Ruipro, and all the way up to AudioQuest's, ahem, premium cables. I've had good reports (and worked on sites) with a huge variety of other brands, but I don't have as much experience as I do with the ones above.

But my favourite brand that I use at home and for work projects is Kordz. Not the cheapest, but great small quality-of-life changes to their leads make them perfect for installations. Part of the reason I like them is that I have one of their HDMI leads from about 2008 (a 2m one), and it's well-made enough that it passed 48Gbps tests!

Lastly, there's bugger all content out there that's close to 48Gbps for anything other than gaming, so I normally recommend 48Gbps cables only for gaming-related stuff, or where you might find it difficult to replace in years to come (think of that HDMI cable running through the ceiling to a projector). Or when I have a customer who just wants a $5500 AudioQuest Dragon 48 2m lead (https://www.audioquest.com/cables/digital-cables/hdmi-8k-10k…), and has more money than sense.

And yes, feel free to AMA about HDMI, audio-video distribution, home theatre, or anything like it anytime.

wow didn't even know a $5500 hdmi was possible but I just had a look at their pricing list. Im after something to run my lg oled with my Dolby soundbar on Xbox im currently getting massive stuttering issues and im assuming it's my Xbox cable as it's not happening on any other source. Do you know of a decently priced cable that will work as i cant really afford $5500 atm

I'm not going to go into my true thoughts about that $5500 cable, but if you win the jackpot, let me know!

Depends if you want to buy online or in store, and I'm not going to promote my own company here, so these are more about brands that I know personally than anything else.

Pro2's HL8K range is properly certified, and I can tell you they work well.
Kordz' BRAVO range is their retail-friendly 48Gbps range and they're excellent. But if you can chase down the PRS4 range, it has basically identical performance specs, but without the fancy packaging and for cheaper prices. The PRS4 are designed more for installers, and we don't give much of a damn about the boxes these come in!
HDAnywhere have a good 8K Slimwire Max cable range.
Ruipro's HDMI2.1 certified cable range (normally labelled SNC21V107A) are good too.
Blustream have a new HDMI48G range of shorter cables and although I haven't used them yet, I'm 100% sure they're excellent too. The rest of their gear certainly is.

You'd be happy with any of these, I suspect.

        Which soundbar do you have?

        • thanks for that I really appreciate it. if you want to dm me one that'll work ok from your shop if it's not crazy expensive id is happy to support your business. im running a Samsung q930b.

          • @bob98: No worries. In terms of your setup, have you got the Xbox to Soundbar, Soundbar to TV? Or do you have Xbox to TV, TV to Soundbar (via HDMI eARC)?

I also forgot to whinge about the plug/head size on the Snowkids HDMI leads. They really don't need to be that big to work perfectly well, and you're putting additional stress on your device's HDMI sockets when those are sticking in there. As HDMI natively doesn't have a lot of retention/holding force, anything that makes that more likely to fall out bothers me. I hate having to diagnose or visit a customer just to re-plug a HDMI connection.
