Does this stack on existing ultimate?

  • So just as a refresh, my Game Pass Ultimate has expired. All I do is activate Gold and it will ask me to convert, then it's a 1:1 - So 12 months Gold turns into 12 months Ultimate ?

    • +1

According to this comment on Hotukdeals https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/50395905
You are correct. I don't have Xbox so I am not familiar with the subscription.

      • Can you activate with no hitch? I'm going to buy

        • I don't know about that as I don't have Xbox, but the deal at Hotukdeals got 1000 likes so I am guessing it's a good deal.

          • @Scrooge McDeal: Last time I did this exact deal from CDKeys it was $17 for 6 months. Didn't realise how good of deal that was so only bought a years worth.

        • +1

This isnt an official deal from microsoft, but it has worked in the past. YMMV

      • He mentions gpu? What's that? How do you have a gpu on ultimate ?

        • +2

          GPU is Game Pass Ultimate

    • +2

If you can, get 3 years of Gold before you do the conversion to maximise it. Just be sure not to choose 'auto renew' each time you add the Gold code, as that'll offer you a free month, and you can't stack over 36 months

    • +2

      No.

Your 12 months of Gold will stay 12 months of Gold.

Then you can upgrade to Ultimate for $15.95 (?) with automatic renewal.

Then you go back and cancel the auto renewal.

Upgrading to Ultimate converts ALL your remaining Gold to Ultimate. If you have 12 months of Gold, 1 month of Ultimate Upgrade will convert it to 12 months of Ultimate. If you have 3 years of Gold, 1 month of Ultimate upgrade will convert it to 3 years of Ultimate.

I know this because I just did this last week. Waited until all my subscriptions expired. Redeemed 3x 12 months of Gold to get me 3 years of Gold. Then upgraded all 3 years of Gold to 3 years of Ultimate for $15.95(?).

      • Actually, I think @tdth99 is referring to the extra free month of Gold that was offered when you activate a 12-month pre-paid subscription.

If you want to stack the maximum amount (36 months) using 3 x 12 live gold, you can not accept the free month of gold offered to turn on auto-renew.

This is because when you go to redeem your third live gold 12-month sub you will be over the 36-month max and have to wait until you have 24 months left before you can add the last 12-month card or you can activate ultimate on the 26 months (which is not the best financial move).

I say "was" because a free month of live gold was offered as a bonus if you turn on auto-renew.

Maybe they don't offer the free month anymore so that's why it wasn't an issue for you recently.

  • I have game pass ultimate which was converted from game pass almost three years ago which I got the game pass cards at reduced rate from jb hifi.
I’m sure then 3 years was the max and I’m sure mine expires sept I think.
Can I convert this to ultimate or does it not work that way or have you to let it expire first.
Just wondering if it’s worth buying

    • If yours it's not expired then you get a convertion of 6 mth gold to 79 days ultimate.
It's not recommended to hold the activation keys for too long.

  • Do these stack? Can you buy 6 of them and redeem them all for 3 years if Xbox live?

    • That's what I'm planning to do.

    • +3

Yes you can. Just check this comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13908875/redir before you do.

    • I re-subbed for 3 years from a recent similar deal for 3 month codes, bought in chunks of 4 and 8. I was hoping to gain from the free month for auto renewal, but it didn’t show up at any stage for me.
After redeeming all gold codes, I bought ultimate from Microsoft using the upgrade option from subscription page.

  • Perfect timing, mine expired today!
Is there credit card international surcharge on this purchase?

    • +2

I can't see any surcharge. You can also pay with Paypal.

      • Done via Paypal. Thanks for posting!

  • Do Turkish cards not work anymore?

    • +1

Still worked for me last week. Just make sure your subscription is expired before adding

    • Worked for me last week as well, 3 years for around $150

  • Thanks OP up to two years now of gold. My GPU expired two days ago so timing is great

    • +5

Update I got the full 3 years of GPU for $155. Thanks

      • +1

Glad I could save someone money.

      • +2

on the site i cant see to add more than 1 quantity , did ya buy it 6 seperate times?

        • I did. I had 6 transactions.

  • So if I have a lapsed GPU account, and buy this (or multiple), then buy 1 month of GPU it will convert all to GPU? Seems to good to be true.

    • +5

Thats what I just did. Bought 3 years of gold, then I bought the 1 month of GPU and it converted the lot so i have 3 years of GPU again.

      • My GPU expired like 2 months ago, I've been waiting for a deal like this. I'll try to do what you just said.

        • did it work?

      • Big thanks! This worked 👍 Now to wait for Starfield …

  • +1

How do you convert it to GPU?

    • +2

Pay for 1 month of GPU is the easiest way. There used to be 7 day GPU voucher (maybe still available) at a cheap price. That can also be used to convert.

  • +1

So if I want to maximize the savings, I should buy 5 not 6 to convert to GPU since every activation has one free month and the maximum is 3 years. Did I get that right?

    • I went for this but for some reason even after turning off auto renew i only got 1 bonus month and the remaining adding didnt offer me a bonus month to turn it back on. Maybe they have closed that loophole?

      • Hmmm, not sure. My current GPU won't expire for snother eek so I'll have to wait until then to try it.

  • Anyone know the expiry on these?

    • +3

When you buy these, best to use them right away.

      • Ok fair I won't bother.

      • Because of risk of them reselling the code to someone else, having it stolen, or cancelled by MS because they were purchased with a stolen card or something?

        • Will give CDKey benefit of doubt and explain it this way. These could be codes expiring soon so there is a discount. Our retailers have done something similar as a lot of OZBers collected 12 months XBox Live Gold from JB for about $50 in one of the deals.

The price is not dodgy enough to be considered purchased with a stolen card. I know the cheap 14 days GamePass Ultimate codes 2-3 years ago were from US Pringle chips promotion. A lot of US people sold them online to grab some money.

  • +2

Coming up as $29.39 for me, anyone else?

    • Same for me…

  • Still good if you don't have an Xbox.

    Cloud streaming and PC games.

  • Does this convert to Ultimate if I add it to an active account?

    • +2

If you currently have active GamePass Ultimate, then you don't want to add these as the conversion won't be 1:1, Microsoft would do a price ratio conversion so it is most likely not worth it.

If you have an active XBox account without GamePass Ultimate, then after stacking up on these, buying 1 month GamePass Ultimate would convert those at 1:1 ratio.

      • Ah cheers, good to confirm that before I buy!

  • Does this function the same as Game Pass for PC?

    • +1

Only if you convert to GamePass Ultimate. Basically, XBox Live Gold is actually a product Microsoft wants to get rid of, but cannot (as that would upset XBox users because some of them use that service to play "free" games online and they don't want to get GamePass). To entice people to switch to GamePass Ultimate, there is a 1:1 conversion path, but only for people without active GamePass Ultimate.

GamePass Ultimate = GamePass (XBox) + GamePass (PC) + XBox Live Gold. However, if you only care about GamePass PC, then the overall saving isn't as big.

  • I bought a 6 month code using this, and it gave me 2x 3 month codes. I still have only 3 months of xbox live, even though both cards have been redeemed now - what happened, or what did I do wrong?

    • +2

Login to your Microsoft / Xbox account. In your Microsoft Account, choose Services & Subscriptions, check the date there.

If that's wrong, go to Payment & Billing, the Order history. Sometimes, consecutive redemptions might cause a bit of a glitch, but generally do correct itself quickly. If order history shows 2 redemptions but date is wrong, you can contact Microsoft Support first. If it is only one there, you need to contact CD Keys Support.

      • Thanks. It's only showing 1 key, so I'll contact CD key support

  • Great deal. Purchased 2 years worth. Thanks Op.
