  • So the other one 2.4 model doesnt have Bluetooth? No bt means cant use with Nintendo Switch?

    • +6

Yup, only the Bluetooth version will work with the switch. The 2.4ghz one also doesn't have the hall effect joysticks, just regular ones. For roiughly ~$15 more I think going for the Bluetooth version is pretty worth it for the flexibility of being able to use it on both switch and PC, especially since you get a 2.4ghz dongle with the Bluetooth version anyway.

      • i think there is a catch on the BT version, like it can't use on android (can't check reddit now) and the face button are the opposite of the xbox version, so it may be confusing if you plan to use it for PC.

    • The 2.4g model also lacks the hall effects joysticks, which is probably the main appeal of the 8bitdo Ultimate controllers too, so I don't even know why they still market it under the same name, other than saving money by using basically the same shell for both.

  • Noice - just picked up one last week and loving it!

Having bought it for the PC, I didn't notice the button layout was for the Nintendo Switch, so ended up buying the Xbox layout buttons lol!

  • What's the difference with 8BitDo Pro 2 Bluetooth gamepad?

    • +1

Hall effect joysticks, which theoretically won't suffer from drift issue.

Also left analog stick is at your thumb's natural resting position rather than the PlayStation configuration, so arguably better for games that mainly use analog movement (whereas the Pro 2 is better for games that mainly use the D-pad for movement).

      Your mileage may vary.

      • I only play MAME arcade games, which controller would be better for that?

          • @pj1351: It's not the particular game, rather to be played through RetroArch in Nvidia Shield Pro.

Is Pro 2 still the preferred controller?

            • +1

@UncommonName: I have no idea how my last post became such incoherent word-vomit, but as to your actual question:

The Pro 2 has better cross-platform compatibility, so unless you specifically need the hall effect sticks of the Ultimate, the Pro 2 is probably the better choice (and better for most retro-style games, anyway).

  • newbie question, I got an Android phone, will this work with emulator games in particular Street Fighter games.

    • Yes

    • It may or may not work over Bluetooth. It should work over USB though.

  • I was waiting for hte 8BitDo Pro 2 to drop to $40 again but forget that, I picked up this due to the hefty improvements. thanks, OP!
btw tears of the kingdom running on PC emulated on 60FPS on a 42" 4k C2 OLED!

    • that sounds like a blast

Good deal, except this bluetooth version has no xInput and will be recognized as Pro Controller on Windows.

I ended up buying a Gulikit King Kong 2 Pro over 8BitDo Ultimate.

    • +1

I did that too, just so I can hot swap input methods.

      • Unfortunately I ended up returning the Gulikit KK2 Pro on 2nd day of purchase, the A button was sticking and squeaking really loud and Gulikit seems to have some quality control issues from what I found.

It is a shame because I really loved the ergonomics and everything else about this controller….

While 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4Ghz doesn't have Hall Effect, I guess back to using Xbox controllers for PC gaming for now :(

  • I have had this for a good while now. Can’t recommend it enough.

  • I've also had it for a while. Great controller, very easy to connect to PC/switch. There's also a turbo function which can come in handy for quick time events and 2d platform shooters.

One minor annoyance is that the bottom front edges of the controller are a little bit sharp (probably designed that way so that it can sit flush with the dock), which takes a bit of getting used to coming from the rounded PS or Xbox controllers.

  • Definitely worth picking up if you don't have a controller for PC/Switch. Very high quality and I can't praise the product enough. The only downside for some may be the smaller frame compared to other controllers.

  • Bought this in December, a really good controller for PC/Switch.

  • grabbed one, ta

  • Are these fairly heavy? I wanted to grab for the kids on the switch, but feel they'd ruin It.
My kids ruined my 8bit SN30 joystick and it's double tapping, no replacements joystick parts available.
Off topic but has Anyone used the sub generic $35 switch controllers on Amazon? Thinking I buy two of them and let them ruin them 😞
