Use a short barrel for hair up to chest level; for hair longer than chest level, use a longer one. That's what I read on the Dynson website.
The long is so much better if you have chest length hair (I have both and will sell the shorter barrel one). It's absolutely worth the price difference (I have waist length hair).
FYI, you can buy the long barrels but they are $100 individual so to buy both the 30mm and 40mm barrels, it would be $200.

Essentially, what is the difference between the short and long barrels ie is it based on having thick vrs fine hair or long vrs short hair or wanting tight vrs loose curls etc
