Favourable review here.

The Panasonic LUMIX S5 II + 20-60mm Lens Kit offer a significant step forward for ambitious creators who demand uncompromising performance free of capture and workflow constraints.

Panasonic has developed a new 24-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor that features on-sensor PDAF (Phase Detection Auto-Focus). The new PDAF has 779 focus points, and provides total AF confidence and a strong ‘lock’ on the subject with the accuracy known from Depth From Defocus plus the smart subject detection of AI for high performance auto focus, in both photo and video modes.

Under the L2 Technology alliance formed by LEICA and LUMIX, both brands co-invested to develop a new imaging engine that has approximately 2x higher-speed signal processing for high bit-rate video recording and improved high burst rate photography. This makes possible Phase Hybrid AF and Active IS for reinforced command over subject tracking and stabilisation.

Other features that expand the videographer’s horizon include unlimited 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K recording achieved via a fan and high-efficiency heat sink; full-sensor video shooting; and REAL TIME LUT for on-the-spot colour grading without postproduction.

With an increased buffer memory size, the LUMIX S5II is capable of impressive high speed burst shooting at up to 30 fps (AFS/AFC) with an electronic shutter in JPEG/RAW.

That’s a good price for a very capable camera especially if you’re into video

  • if interest rate still at 1.8% i may be able to afford this

  • If only it didn't crop 4k @ 60p :/

    • Get an R6

      • +2

Got R6ii's, a A7Siii, GH6's and a few G9's (for dropping from helicopters, buildings and boats)!

The R6ii is the least used because you can not change the shutter speed (or shutter angle) during video recording :/
(it is awesome to change shutter speed to 1/1000s for action slow-mos as everything is sharp and detailed)

        • I do not understand this… could you enlighten me as to what these are, if they are lenses or if this means I would need to buy all these camera types?

          • @Leleone: Different types of cameras that shoot 4k@60p (without a crop) video for different situations ;)

One of the companies I own is a media company!

            • @7ekn00: I see, thank you so much for the clarification! Most appreciated

        • What do you mean you can't change shutter speed during video recording??? I can definitely change the shutter speed on mine during video recording.

@SeanConnery: Numbers change, ZERO affect on the actual video footage …

Try it with a fan, start recording video (in shutter priority), change SS up / down - the fan blades should go from blurry (1/120th or 180 degree shutter angle) to perfectly defined and still (1/2400th or 9 degree shutter angle) and back again without destroying auto exposure - review footage frame by frame and discover zero change to fan blade appearance :/

            • @7ekn00: Have you compared with still shots?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Stills on the above cameras vs S5ii? The S5ii will run circles around all of the above for stills!

(S5ii has better dynamic range and sensor resolution)

                • @7ekn00: Nah, the R6 that has no effect to shutter angle change. Did you get the same result when taking stills at the same shutter speeds compared to video (frame by frame)?

                  • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, the R6ii and SS works fine for stills (and the stills are different from the video frames) -

It seems to lock the shutter speed to whatever it was when the video is started, no matter mode or setting :/

Even the Canon Reps we asked about it replied that shutter priority is not a video feature of the R6
(and they may be right as it worked on an R5 we had been given as a loaner to test on)!

            • @7ekn00: I'm a little confused. Do you notice the flicker disappear/appear when you change the shutter under certain lights?

  • Amazon deal is now $20 less, $2679.
