I've been a motorcycle rider for 40 years. My youngest child is 6. 7 soon enough Couldn't imagine putting them on this under any circumstances. Helmet and all, the wrong kind of fall at 13 kmh. Nuh. Come back when your a teenager son, and we can discuss it further.

Dad bought me a crappy old RM80 1981 twin shock model when I was 10yo. I could get to the end of 3rd gear before the front wheel finally returned to the ground. I'm surprised I survived my childhood tbh.

100% with you man. I had older brothers so I was flying around enormous paddocks at probably age 11/12. High power machines. Took spills. Don't remember a lot of helmets there in the early/mid 80s. Saw a lot and that's precisely why I need to do a 'do as I say not as I do' to my kids. 🤣😂

        • +4

I just looked up the stats of my bike - 15kW @ 11k rpm. But the worst part was it all came on all of a sudden at about 8k. An electric bike with the smooth power delivery (and what probably 0.1kW?) would be 1000x safer than that. They've gotta start somewhere.

          • +2

@stumo: He can has his first ride when he is 30. 🤣
Poor bugger. This December and January my boys watched me take off everyday on my motorcycles from our home in the Philippines. Must have done 3000km over that trip.visiting friends, going to the mountains and beaches. I can still see their faces on the trips I'd escort them and they'd be in the car. I'm a massive hypocrite but like you said we are shocked we survived in. It's deliberate that I no longer have a motorcycle in Australia. 🙂

@seamonkey: I never took up road riding. My youngest (13yo) is interested in cars and bikes, so I get him to watch the TT with me each year. I think that scares him off enough, it certainly still scares me, not as much as last year though that was a shocker.

              • +1

                @stumo: Absolutely!
I'm still quietly happy that he loves driving the fastest cars on the planet and motorcycles - just greatful at this stage that it's all on PS5.🤣

That's why I keep it to Philippines these days as it's nowhere near Manila. Well made mountain roads with absolutely no other vehicles..I wouldn't bother with highway driving in any country but the main reason for that is it simply bores me. Very accurate about TT. Can't believe I've been close to there a few times in my life but never visited. Maybe one day.

      Indeed, a Barbie is safer.

      • Top speed of the Barbie? Also…so kids really like sausage and bread THAT much?

I seen kids this young on bicycles with not even a helmet. So this motorbike given to a kid this young won't surprise me.

      • Yeah I see it's a subtle difference but the whole manual propulsion vs machine seems to be just enough to make this old timer nervous. I can't let my boys (only have boys) do what I once did. Jesus. Shaking thinking about it. haha.

this is some footage of Valentino Rossi riding as a child.
He got given his first bike when he was 2.5yo.
Good luck to @seamonkey protecting his offspring.

I got given my first bike at 3.5yo.

        • I'm a hypocrite. In all fairness when he is old enough to talk to me about what he'd find super fun from a adrenaline perspective, I'm listen to him. I say much of this kidding about in my head. I'm well aware I'm a little bit of a helicopter Dad but I'm trying hard to work on that. I'll absolutely watch the video when no noise surrounds me. thanks 🙂

        • All i can say is to any parent who thinks giving a motorbike to a kid this young. Is take a stroll
through a childrens hospital. Speak to the nurses who had to care for the kids. And speak to the parents of kids who have suffered broken bones because they did not have proper gear or was given bikes like this.

I mean sure we all want them to be like Valentino Rossi but the reality is they be lucky if they don't end up in a plaster cast trying to heal a broken arm after falling off a bike. Or worse.

          • +1

@xoom: Appreciate where your comin from but motorbike is a hot and somewhat cultural topic.
True they're dangerous, but you'll be fine.
Way less dangerous than riding your skateboard/scooter/pushbike in a skatepark when looking at broken bones.

Plenty of parents give their kids bike early and they're just fine.
It's legal for them to ride scooters on open roads as soon as 14 in first world nations.

The sooner you start the safer and more skilled rider you will become.
Think of man in his 50's dying/getting injured because they just bought a Harley as a midlife crisis present to one self.

            • @Hasbulla:

True they're dangerous, but you'll be fine.

Yeah. Well plenty of parents think that till their little one is in childrens hospital getting a plaster cast.

Im not saying there is no responsible kids out there the irresponsible ones out number those though.

              • +2

@xoom: mate I grew up breathing two stroke fumes and with a fair few broken bones.

Motorsports are an art form as well as an environment to develop lifelong skills, friendships and memories.

Same goes for plenty more extreme sports, as well as non-contact sports.
Every story is different I guess and I can't judge you for not letting your kids do this.

The my friend works in a the pediatric intensive care unit approach is a tad extreme for this subject bike IMHO.

            • @Hasbulla: My youngest had a TTR50 at 4yo. Eldest also rides dirt bikes and horses and has had two fractured wrists, both times from small playground accidents…on softfall. She has a mate with an arm currently in a cast from playing bullrush.

Both girls are pretty good at assessing risks.

I wouldn't buy the bike in this deal but not because it's dangerous

    • +1

      I rode at 10 -16 and went from a 50cc to a 150cc.

I fell a few times and burnt myself pretty badly sometimes. Motorbikes are so fun but so godamn dangerous. God I miss it.

    Hello, fun police?

Kids on push scooters would easy do 13km/h.

    • -7

      Fun police?

Have a chat to any nurse who have to look after kids who broke an arm, a leg or fracture a rib and are in hospital because of this?

Speak to parents too. Looking after their child who has a plaster cast because they had a stack on a motorbike.

Start calling them the fun police.

If you haven't hurt yourself as a kid, have you even lived?

        Ever played sport?

        • -6

So your point is. They will hurt themselves regardless. Why bother with being safe yeah?

Even school sports expect you to play with safety gear.

How do i know these? Because my schoolmates where told off for playing cricket without pads. But hey i guess my schoolmates just want to live life.

Next you be saying. Oh life is short.

So better make it shorter by taking unnecessary risks.

          • +1

@xoom: Where did I say go ride a bike or play footy without safely gear?

You must be fun at parties

            • -4

@MagicMikez32: So a kid has to get hurt to live? Those are you words. Not mine.

I don't know any parent who has ever had a kid in hospital with a broken bone ever said that. Specially after their kid ends up in hospital.

              • +2

                @xoom: LOL ok

They aren't my words, but whatever. I hope your kids enjoy the cotton-wool.

My daughter broke her collarbone falling off the mower when she was 2. No it wasn't moving or running.

                Bring back natural selection.

      • a plaster.
        No biggie

      • Sorry, he meant to call them pearl clutchers.

      • +2

I think you're not understanding what this is. It's not a "motorbike" as such, it's a tiny electric bike with a pathetically weak electric motor for ages 7+ and has a maximum speed of 13km/h, which is like a fast jogging speed. A 7+ year old on a bicycle can easily ride at least 13km/h, and kids stack their bikes every day and scratch the crap out of themselves, fracture bones, break their teeth etc. So how exactly is this any more dangerous than a bicycle? Are you also saying children shouldn't ride bicycles because they can injure themselves?

        • All im saying is. Gauge your kids ability to be able to ride these things. Be it a motorbike or a bicycle or a scooter.

Yes kids can break bones and loose teeth if they fall off a bike. But do they have to if it can be avoided. My neighbours kids head was bleeding after a nasty fall off a scooter likely not wearing a helmet judging from where kid was bleeding. You guessed it. Unsupervised.

Supervise your kids. Provide them safety gear. I seen many times kids not even provided a helmet riding a bike and riding on their own unsupervised.

Its well and good if you do this. Now if only everybody else does it.

          • +1

@xoom: I'm a bit perplexed why all of your examples are of other peoples kids - don't you have children? If you don't, I don't understand how or why you're lecturing everyone.

The biggest thing standing out to me is you think supervising children somehow magically prevents them from injury. What are you on about? Kids will have accidents, supervised or not. All my kids have accidents while I've literally been standing there watching them. They've stacked their bikes and scooters, they've fallen off trampolines and play equipment, they've even slipped over running around. It's just life buddy. This product is no more dangerous than a bicycle yet your head is spinning around at its existence.

It sounds like you led a very inactive life as a kid and were brought up in a very sheltered household, and because you're missing the perspective of a kid having fun outside you now sit there in your dark bedroom ranting about irresponsible parents.

            • @howcan:

The biggest thing standing out to me is you think supervising children somehow magically prevents them from injury.

Its not magic but i find when kids are not supervised. They are more than likely to not wear a helmet while riding a bike. Cross the road without little to no care. Chase after a ball accross the road much the same.

So what your saying is because i don't have kids i am not entitled to an opinion.

This is not about the kids not having fun outside. I simply said supervise them so they can do so safely?

I would have taken what you said on board but since you resorted to name calling. Im convinced you were only after a fight rather than having a discussion. So with that. Peace out.

              • +3

@xoom: Your original comments mentioned nothing about supervision, just whinging about the product and its risks, broken bones, hospital visits blah blah, when a simple bicycle is arguably more dangerous. Then you turned it into a rant for parents to supervise their kids, providing examples of your neighbours kids falling off a scooter while unsupervised. Pick your lane buddy, maybe stay off the posts for products aimed at kids and seek therapy for your sheltered childhood.

              • @xoom:

So what your saying is because i don't have kids i am not entitled to an opinion.

Of course you're entitled an opinion, just don't try to educate people with real life experience.

    • So buy one. I'm ok if my kid runs and falls over at 13 kmh. I'm not ok with him falling out of the car door at 13 kmh. Not all 13kmh are created equal. I've seen kids burn themselves badly on hot parts of motorcycles, even small ones. Never seen that with a bicycle.
