Help with Deciding between Mitsubishi Vs Hitachi Fridge

Hi team, need help deciding between the two French door fridges:

  1. Mitsubishi Electric 635L L4 Series French Door Fridge MRLA635ERGWHA
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/mitsubishi-electric-635l-l4-…

or

  1. Hitachi 638L 4 Door French Door Fridge RWB640VT0XMGW
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hitachi-638l-4-door-french-d…

Both are made in Thailand, if I'm not wrong. Neither of these are made in Japan.

(edit)

  1. LG 664L French Door Refrigerator GF-B730PL
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-664l-french-door-fridge.h…

Added a 3rd option, which I feel is comparable.

  • I think you'll find the Mitsubishi is the OzBargain favourite.

  • No experience with the Hitachi, but love our Mitsubishi (different model though). Totally biased!

I'd disagree Hitachi is considered a better brand than Mitsubishi in Japan, but there has been some discussion of mergers which would make them the one company. Although I don't know to what extent this is effective for household appliances versus high capital projects like nuclear power stations with both Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries commissioned and manufactured and according to some US news US companies attempting to bar the entry to Mitsubishi by charging it under their Anti-Trust anti-monopolies law. And they say Americans have no sense of irony.

  • We have a Japan made Mitsi fridge and it is brilliant!
Not sure about a Thai built one though….

The air conditioners have been made in Thailand for a number of years now. They seem to be good quality.

  • I know it costs more, but I would invest in a Japanese built Mitsubishi over both of those (https://www.harveynorman.com.au/mitsubishi-electric-700l-wx-…).
If you're going to buy a fridge made in Thailand, I'd just go with an LG and save your pennies.

    • I'm actually considering the LG (https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-664l-french-door-fridge.h…), I'll add it to the poll. I've looked at the Japanese built Mitsubishis but I've ruled out anything with large freezer drawers as I'm not a fan.

      • I have the LG you linked and it has been great.

I'm curious why that is. The ones you have linked still have freezer drawers but you need to open the doors (past 90º) first to even access the inner drawers. Our new F&P fridge is this way and its the one aspect I don't like (opening the door out wide just to pull out a drawer to access the freezer)

But then you have multiple smaller drawers which is easier to organise. One big deep draw will see stuff buried at the bottom.

          • @JIMB0: Mitsubishi get around this by having a smaller drawer inside of the bigger one, so you aren't really stacking things on top of each other.

  • Didn't even know these companies made fridges! Good to know for my next fridge, current one is older than me I think

  • The Mits. and Hitatchi have 5 year warranty, the LG has 2 years

  • None of the above.
    Recently purchased the following fridge:

Absolutely love the layout, convenience and functionality AND quietness.
    No regrets at all.

Why not just use Choice reviews to figure it out?

  • I totally sympathise with the dilemma, I could not decide between a Mitsi and Hitachi 2 years ago. Both were Japanese made and amazing.
In the end, we bought Hitachi 615L with a vac drawer! Invest in one of those, they are very very good. I wish they sold Japanese made washers here.. just wow!

Alternatively Home Clearance have pretty attractive discounts on run out or scratched etc models of Mitsubishi:
