Looking for Car Parking Sensors

I’ve been looking for parking sensors with a camera back and front but can’t seem to find such a thing. It’s always just a rear camera?

Can't you use your eyes to look at the front?

From what I witness on a daily basis… if there are video screens in cars that show cameras, people dont use their head, neck and eyes, they just stare at the camera display.

      • Shits me when people walking through car parks just blindly walk behind reversing cars.

Even my 8 year old knows that’s ducking dangerous

        • Shits me when, as a pedestrian, reversing cars need to give way to me, and these people just blindly look into the narrow field of view of their reversing camera and nowhere else.

Even my 11yo knows that she would need to give way and do a head check before reversing out…

  • There's plenty available online on eBay amazon etc.

But honestly a calibrated reverse camera is a lot better IMO than any parking sensors. Just because it can help you in scenarios where you might not park in exact same distance each time (e.g. reverse parallel parking would need you to leave more room and a typical 90* car park).

And also reverse cameras are generally cheaper than these parking sensors too. (assuming you got a stereo display you wont need to spend extra $$ on display), otherwise you can get cheap DVR recorders too that come with reverse camera.

Wiring, drilling etc. in both cases would be roughly about the same hassle

stick a rubber chicken to the front and rear bumpers

What would a real Chicken/s cost?

      Feed/Water?
      False Positives?
Is a Chicken on both Front and Rear still Free Range?

If you’re feeding a rubber chicken, you’re doing something wrong

  • I don't think an all in one solution of what you want exists.

I think you need separate things:

    • Front Sensors
    • Rear Sensors
    • Front & Rear Dash Cam
    • Rear Camera. I have one of these for my 4WD with a Canopy and its great.
    • I have one of these(amazon.com.au) for my 4WD

I'm interested in something like that, but I'm hesitant because some of the photos show that the full area of the mirror is used as a monitor, and other photos show that the camera image is just a smaller area in the centre of the mirror. I don't like purchasing products that might be misleading me. Since you have one, could you please tell me which it is?

Also, how good is the reverse camera image in bright light? How well does it work as a mirror when the camera is not in use? The unit seems to strap onto the existing mirror - how well does that work? Is it heavy?

It is larger than my mirror by a little bit and it is used as a monitor. You can split view which is Front Camera view + Rear Camera, but I don't use that. I just have it as a full-time rear view. It doubles as a rear dashcam which is awesome too! It can do Front Camera, but my big front technology cameras (AEB and speed detection) gets in the way. I have a separate front dashcam anyway.

Very bright and happy with it. It has brightness adjustments so you can adjust it easily for day + night. Plus it has vertical movement up and down to get the right angles + view. I use it as a full time rear view camera. I have a canopy and couldn't really use my rear mirror anyway, nor see out of it.

As for a reverse camera, I wouldn't use it for that. I have a reverse camera built in already and use that. The "zoom" default set is too far away, so it doesn't give a good view really. It doesn't have the 120-degree angle view, at least I don't think so. I haven't wired up the reverse trigger, so cannot be 100% sure on that.

But my main reason for it was buying it for a rear view camera since I cannot see out the canopy. Just helps to see what is behind me when travelling rather than using side mirrors which I cannot small cars anyway.

I hope that helps, PM me if you want to discuss more and I can share some photos.
