[VIC] Half Price Tickets For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Customers (Booking Fee Applies) @ RISING Festival Melbourne

1923

( first post, be kind)
Very nice deal where you can get half price tickets to all festival events plus booking fee.
You are given 2 options for tickets of full price or half price indigenous ticket.
Then enter credit card.
Obviously some people will think this is a great idea and some may think it’s not but I am making no comment on the ethics of giving certain people cheaper tickets or people who perhaps shouldn’t be buying certain tickets doing so. Just letting ozbargain etc know.
Note -if’s book through Ticketek etc only full price tickets are available.

No this deal is racist and no to the voice
Great Idea Albo put the majority of time and money into supposedly helping 3% of the population and ignore the 100 % of the population struggling with inflation, rent and electricity

  • -1

Deal authorised by Albo and the ALP, Canberra.

  • How dare you, want to charge land owner, free is the only option.

This is Racist….I'm the wrong sort of black

    • -1

LOL. This just goes to show that this issue is far from black and white ;P

  • When you realise they've done this on purpose to trigger people/get them to advertise for them….

    • I don't think so caveman. This sort of crap will turn honkies off in droves. I would certainly never attend any event that charged me double based entirely on my race.

As an interesting aside, I was very happy to pay the 'tourist rate' at one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited, 'Borobudur' (world's largest Buddhist temple), in Indonesia; which was more than 10 times the amount paid by locals. Admittedly the tourist rate was charged seemingly entirely based on overt appearance (honkies, Indians, Chinese were all being charged the tourist rate), but it was the principle that mattered. The policy meant that school children, impoverished locals, etc. were able to visit the temple whenever they liked almost for free; whereas tourists rich enough to travel to Indonesia were expected to contribute to its ongoing preservation. I thought that policy was completely understandable/fair, and had no problem with it.

      • $90 is pretty much standard rate for international acts now so you aren’t paying double u r just paying the normal rate. Some people are paying less tho.

"When you realise they've done this on purpose to trigger people"
That's exactly the motivation of thread like this.

It's funny how often these type of posts include such a statement

Dear kransky, allow me to translate for you:

'This policy/deal is clearly racist against non-indigenous Australians, which is totally unethical, so I suggest that all such peeps feel no shame whatsoever in blatantly rorting it with gay abandon by pretending to identify as an aboriginal person.'

      • Who is 'kransky'?

      • It’s not a gay deal.
        Oops I fell for it..

    • Covering my bases mate so I’m not accused of being racist to blacks or whites or encouraging misuse of terms… hell thesedays people get easily offended.
Just wait till I post the link to the drag queen storytime session on at port melbourne library next week..! 😭

hell thesedays people get easily offended

Don't they just! Some even trolling hard yet they're the first ones to report others when their feelings are hurt. If only everyone treated each other with respect, huh?

        • For the record Kojak, I have never reported anyone for anything on this website. I would not waste my time doing that; it is my view that the people (users) can judge for themselves. I did note with a chuckle though that you recently had some of your comments 'unpublished' by the mods because they were blatantly inflammatory/unproductive/just plain nasty, and only detracted from the dialogue. I had no role in that process, but I guess when the mods do it it does help to reduce the amount of irrelevant rubbish readers need to wade through while accessing genuine/constructive content.

If you simply try to limit yourself to actually commenting on the subject at hand, rather than launching irrelevant personal attacks, you will not have your 'contributions' removed by the mods.

          • @GnarlyKnuckles: I'm amused by how seriously you take your 'commentary' on a 'bargain' website and that you think I was referring to you in my comment above.

Seems like yet another account that thinks they're a self-appointed OzB influencer.

            • @[Deactivated]: Anyone who has some actual knowledge and/or experience to share and puts a bit of thought and effort into their forum posts on here will naturally end up 'influencing' a few peeps KJ. Your loose assertion that multiple users 'think they're a self-appointed OzB influencers' thus makes no sense in context, given the way the forums here are intended to operate. How have you not realised this yet, despite having been here for a few years now?

    • You mean like how some ppl whinge about someone else getting something, cheaper or free, when said person had no intention of going/having it?
      Like faux outrage?

This comment section gives me hope for Australia

    • How so?

      • Equity is a social scam. People are waking up to this as it's clearly not helping anyone other than those benefiting out of it politically.
