I had to replace a unit in my investment property recently. Did loads of research and phone calls, ended up with a Mitsubishi Electric that was also having a Cashback promo. If not for the Cashback I'd have gone $200 extra for a Daikin.
In the end I was getting a 50/50 feedback on Mitsubishi Heavy vs Mitsubishi Electric. The ones selling MH said they rarely get calls for any problems. The ones selling ME said MH were poor quality.
    In case it helps.

Beenusing m heavy for a while, no problems and very energy efficient

    • My aircon guy reckons Mitsubishi Electric are easier to get parts for. Good choice I’d say.

    • Been using MHI SRK25ZMA x 3 units since 2014 for Heating and Cooling. Zero problems.

    • my installer said either daiken or mitsubushi heavy.
      Not much differnece between either.

So i guess, price would sway me more.

  • MHI probably make the best splitties.

Most mine sites only use MHI.

    • fleet reliability plus parts availability/cost for daikin and mhi is miles better. it doesn't make sense to use any other brands.

  • Yeah, I've got two new small MHI splits. I did the cashback through the summer promo and the process was easy too. Units have been running happily for only about the last month (as I only started using once the cold really set in).

    • If you provide the invoice from the installer is that sufficient? Or do you have to buy them yourself?

      • To my knowledge, you need the original invoice from the purchase of the unit. If you have it as a line item on the invoice from your installer, then I think you would be okay.

  • Excellent thanks OP. I'm buying a house soon that needs all the box air cons replaced. I need 5. Almost buy 4 get one free lol

Nicely (and I didn't realise this until I had unpacked them) the serial numbers that you need for the internal and external units (to be submitted for the claim) are on the boxes themselves. That way you can purchase them and submit the claim on the same day.

Last time it was Bunnings who had the Avanti series for cheap compared to others, Is there any supplier this time

    • The Avantis that I purchased last time from Bunnings are $15 dearer at the moment. Not sure if there's been much fluctuation in others pricings though.

      • I had a look through the T&C. Looks like you can do the shop around from anywhere. Just make sure you get an original tax invoice. It was written in bold they don't accept duplicate tax invoices.

  • Have had a Bronte 7kw for a few years I got the intesis controller thinking native might be better than a sensibo or trying to program harmony or broadlink. It's okay, but complex and not that flexible - the timer & sleep functions on the IR remote have never worked and I suspect it's because the intesis wireless thingo is connected to where a hardwired wall remote would be. Don't know whether that's by design or an install error or if I'm completely off the mark. Figured its not worth the service call to find out for sure. Aircon itself is quiet and powerful, same with the reverse cycle - but the dry mode having a temperature setting is confusing and if you don't get it right it will occasionally jump from cool to warm and suddenly raise your internal humidity by about 20% and blow all the coil condensation back into the room.

  • hi ozb, just hoping to get a 2nd opinion on quote.

    house details
    location: SE Melb.
    brick veneer, double story house
3x units have tiled roof directly behind the wall, within 2metres of existing wall powerpoints.
1x unit does not have roof behind wall, therefore expect to require mounting of outside unit off the ground but closer towards ground level, also within 2meters of existing powerpoint.

    4x 2.5kw SRK25ZSA-W-Set

was advised the house (built in 90s) only has 20Amps from the powerbox (10Amps for upstairs and 10Amps for downstairs)

installing 4x 2.5kw MHI SRK25ZSA-W-Set units will need upgrade to circuit breaker to sufficiently power units.

    quoted
    900/unit + 1000/unit for installation
    1000 for circuit breaker upgrade
total for 4 units installed =
    $8.6k

    is this a fair price?

does the end user claim the cashback for the MHI units? i.e. $100 cashback for the 2.5kw unit?

    • No idea re the costing there, but for the last part of your question, yes, it is the end user who claims the cashback.

      • If I get the installer to purchase and install, could I still claim it?

  • Does anyone know whether the cashback is restricted to NSW, ACT and SA? I can't find it in the T&C.

    • No, I assumed it was Australia wide. I am in WA and successfully claimed it.

  • Will the cashback add up if i get multiple?

    • Yes, I did two separate purchases and two claims and both went through fine.

      • Cool, i have multiple on the same receipt, i know different orders count but unsure if multiple on same receipt counts

  • Not sure. I deliberately bought on separate receipts so I didn't have to worry about that. I'd hope it would still be fine though.

  • “Purchase Period” means 00:01 AEST 1 June 2023 and 23:59 AEDT 31 December 2023 inclusive.

seems they extended their purchase period but forgot to update their submit a claim webpage: https://mhiaapromotion.com.au/, they updated the main page tho: https://mhiaa.com.au/promotion/

“Grand Prize Draw” means the draw conducted by the Promoter’s Agent on 14 November 2023

but if you want to win the tesla, you should buy and submit your claim before 14 nov

  • Any inexpensive installers in Melbourne?
