Lekker Amsterdam GT Ebike $3298 (Was $4298) + $68 Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Lekker Bikes

90

This looks like a decent deal for a reasonably specced ebike. Belt drive is a plus.

Mid-drive motor
Powerful and silent, the Bafang M420 motor has a serious 80Nm of torque. So that means you get some serious oomph on those longer adventures. Ride on. And on.

Removable battery
Choose from two batteries, ride up to 120km on a single charge. Take it off, take it indoors, charge it up, head off. Beautifully simple. Easy to replace, easy to upgrade.

Stepless Enviolo gearing
The GT laughs at locked gearing system problems. Shift from a standstill, stop and go without worries. Plus it’s got a 310% gearing ratio, which means total control.

Gates CDX Carbon belt drive
Needs less taking care of than a pet rock. Weather-resistant, flexible, durable, it’s made with stretch-free Gates carbon fibre tensile cords. And it’s silent too.

These are great for what they are. The Gates belt on this is the CDX version not the inferior CDN you see on many bikes.

Mid-drive, hub gears and belt are nice for off-road riding, and add to the cost. But deliver little benefit on a city bike, which is what this appears to be. Therefore make for poor value . So why is this a bargain?
At 23kg, it is also as heavy as a solid off-roader.

has a serious 80Nm of torque.

At what speed? What torque at a practical pedalling cadence?
What gear range? IT is the torque at the wheel that matters.
For over $3k, I'd hope some real specs, not just glossy pictures and gobbledygook aimed at impressing people with. Then again, most car adverts are the same.

What you get is a quality long lasting commuter bike that should run for years and tens of thousands of kilometres with minimal or no maintenance.

But yes there are much cheaper options for half the price or less but will they last as long?

It would make a very nice touring bike, as long as you can recharge every night. Cycle across Europe?

        • +1

not sure if you can get these onto planes, maybe need to ship it

        • How did you go from commuter to cycling across Europe? How many people do you know shop for a 3k lekker to cycle across Europe? You are combining the needs of a simple e commuter bike with pro cyclists. A ROHLOFF SPEEDHUB alone costs 2.5k.. wanna talk about all the negs about it for everyday commuting when it’s clearly specked for endurance events?

          • @Sometingwong: Easy boy. Do you have an actual serious question there?
I thought touring would benefit from this bike in a way that commuting does not. Are you saying it would not fit that purpose? The rant is unclear.

    • You don't want a hub motor on any ebike, they're a nightmare.

      • Ha. Sorry you had a bad one, but don't extrapolate so wildly.

It's like front vs rear vs 4-wheel drive. Really matters sometimes, but not on your average commute.

Mid-drive, hub gears and belt are perfect for commuting. Next to no maintenance on your bike that will do the most miles.

80nm at the mid drive is plenty of torque. It would make light work of Baldwin Street.

I’m with you until you get to your point about real specs.

Lekker by contrast to most e-bike brands are actually stating up front how much it weighs and the core components, performance.

I’m not sure which bike brand you’re comparing to that has more details than them, but so far I haven’t found any.

      • Fair enough, I guess I was comparing to regular non-e bikes. My last e-bike had way worse specs than this given, you are right.

  • It's a mid but has a gearing hub on the rear wheel? I feel like anything other than regular wheels is just going to be a costly pain in the ass if you ever have an accident.

Cool bike for the hipsters with buckets of money for riding tarmac. Hub gears and belt drive flashy. A 16 or 17.5Ah battery and they supply a 2A charger ?

Bike shops are bleeding heavily and here's an example. Giant Explore with $1700 off !

Bang for buck, Progear X6 (XDS Advance) for $1700 even better value with decent components too:

Not hating it to be honest. During Covid they bled everyone dry and had ridiculous servicing rules unless you bought your bike from them. I remember I couldn’t even speak to a salesman if I had questions. Unless you were ready to pay cash you weren’t important.

      • no bike shop was interesting in servicing my leitner ebike, yet at the same time i was free to drop it off at a store for it to be taken to a workshop somewhere else for a week and pay for the privilege. my bike was my only transport at the time. and the few mobile mechanics who would touch ebikes were either booked out or refused to leave their local area.
