Sony 55" A80J Bravia XR OLED 4K Google TV (2021) $1488 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

890

The price has dropped again at JB-HiFi. It is not an ATL however now is probably your last chance to grab an excellent 55" TV in this price range considering stock has almost dried up in VIC (don't know about other states). Also a good opportunity to PM if your local is OOS. How there is still stock of a 2021 TV floating around is anyone's guess. Bugger all difference between this and the A80K.

200 cheaper in March, friken inflation https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/761084

I'm not sure a Perks code has anything to do with inflation but then again, I'm no Economist.

      • Perks is free, so yeh

Would give my left nut for a 65in one at a good price.

    • +4

How much is your left nut worth?

      • +17

        $4,099 according to Sony.

If that’s the case, check on Myer stores they getting rid of TV stock I bought one 65” last week for $1850 minus discounted gift cards. It was the last one unfortunately.

      • Looked at Myer online. 65" was $2049 but showing out of stock

        • Needs to be stock on the floor, apparently they will stop selling TVs.

      • Excellent price! No one ever thinks of DJ's and Myer for TV's so well done.

    • So you'd pay a good price and still part with said testicle?

  • I've had this TV for 22 months, paid $2800 for it back then, however it's now got a vertical white line through it and am waiting for Sony to come repair it. If you're buying this TV now, get an extended warranty.

Got this in the march deal and love it. Using it as a PC monitor with plex app for movies to make picture settings easier. LMK if you have any q's

or get 2x Hisense 55U7HAU (TGG price matched one for me today $760, paid via Paypal pay in 4 and will be getting $100 cash as per their current promotion)

      You're comparing apples with oranges.

      • -2

Haha i wasn’t comparing anything. Coming from 2 Sony LED tv’s that only lasted 4 years each, currently using an LG OLED C1(amazing). I was looking for a (cheap)HDMI 2.1 tv for son’s PS5 and I thought ai would share my thoughts here as I was amazed by the price and picture quality. https://imgur.com/a/wadgPkx

I used to work for Hisense and I wish you the very best of luck.

          • @Maths Debater: Thank you, I will need less luck than the $7000 spent for those 2 Sony tvs. In any case, it was just $660.
            BTW I +’d your deal

        • +1

Then you could say “or get a robot vacuum”. Not comparing, right?

          • @Morien: I wasn’t comparing, I just put it out there for those who are after something more affordable with good specs. What is your opinion about this deal? You haven’t upvoted, is there any reason you don’t consider this as a good deal?

Looks at my 55 inch Hisense, thinks about this Sony, and wonders if Mrs entropysbane would notice if I accidently knocked the Hisense off the entertainment unit.
I will not buy a Hisense again. Only tolerable because I have an Apple TV hooked up to it that I use instead of the Hisense OS. And the viewing anngles are a horrible shocker.

It was $550 on sale down from $750 or so. You get what you pay for and I am glad I didn’t pay full price.

      • Yeah… I won't buy Hisense again until they abort the AU vs US differences. The US model doesn't look to have the issues that the AU model has. Even if hardware was the same (which it is not), VIDAA is a key reason to avoid Hisense.

I have a Samsung 55 CX. I bought the Sony in the last JB hi fi deal for the living room.
I'm not entirely happy with the Sony. The AndroidTV experience is so poor. A cold boot of the TV takes ages to load. I find the display quality of the CX to be better overall. The audio in the Sony is quite bass heavy and surprisingly good given the form factor.
If I had the choice, I would avoid this and buy a Samsung instead.

I think you mean LG. The solution is simple, purchase an NVIDIA Shield. They're almost identical TV's according to RTINGS however, Sony will always have superior motion handling.

      • +3

Yup, I meant the LG. The OFTB experience shouldn't be this bad that we need to spend on a streaming device

        • +3

Pretty much all android TVs are like this.

Google needs to make a pixel tv lol.

I ended up plugging in a google tv device to a Google tv.

    • Roku based TVs alledgedly have no lag.

Owned that TV for 6 Months, great TV. Got it for 1100$ refurbished by Sony on eBay and would purchase again. I had a 40 inch TCL that would do that blue screen stunt for 5 sec making me dizzy for a while. My eye strain is gone with a screen 15 inch wider. Best TV for night movie viewing, Netflix Calibrated and IMAX Enhanced are great features originally only on masters series but included in this model.

Great TV. Bought one 6 months ago. Sound is amazing for a TV.

    • +1

Your negging because it's not available to you? Oh heavens poor you…..

  • +1

Be aware, no user manual. You have to trawl through the net, (HTML format) or pick through the screen info.

    • +2

Good reduction in waste. No one reads them anyway.

      • Exactly. A lot of manufactures have gone online for the UM and only include the QSG in the box.

      • +1

        Sorry I made the comment.
But yours is entirely the opinion of someone who has no use of a physical copy, which would be 40-50% of users at most. Ozbargain is not the universe of TV owners despite the plethora of discussions on them.

I suspect if I had said the opposite in regard to manuals , you would have too……
        ; )

They could easily be optional by (all) manufacturers, or available online in a fully printable version as required.
People concerned with reducing waste can do that themselves. TV manual or not.Plant a tree. Plant a thousand.

        • They could easily be optional by (all) manufacturers, or available online in a fully printable version as required.

Ideally, yes. It would be nice to see versions formatted for use on phones.

I generally throw out a physical manual and download a copy and throw it into storage. Generally, never to be read again.

People concerned with reducing waste can do that themselves. TV manual or not.Plant a tree. Plant a thousand.

Generally, the impact you can make as an individual is fairly minimal compared to big corporations.
