Joining Fee Waived ($1200) on Tesla EV Car Rental 6 or 12 Months Subscription @ AGL

Value-EV-Offer

May not be a deal for everyone, but if you are keen to get your hands on a EV and can’t wait for the long delivery times, then this might be something to consider.

EV subscription plans from AGL let you try them, if you don’t want to commit for a long term. Marketing says - try new EV every 6 months.

Plans start around $500 a week and based on what I read so far, you can just return the EV at the end of your plan. So if you get a 6 month plan, you are looking at around 500x26 = 13k for a latest Tesla, all inclusive. Registration, insurance included. They can even install a charger at your premises, which is charged a removal fee if $300 if you terminate within 6 months. There is a one off establishment fee of $1200 which is waived off this month by using the code.

Based on my basic math calculations, I guess cost of the plan for around 4 years will be the cost of new car, of course you will not have the car at the end, but if you keep it only for a year or two, then could be a good deal to avoid all the hassle of resell etc.

They also seem to have a promotion to save $50 off weekly for 6 or 12 month plans here - unsure if the two will stack.

The website suggests they have cars in stock and can be made available in 1-2 weeks.

Hope this helps some of us.
Enjoy!

Edit: They are showing different pricing on different pages. Here it says prices for Model Y start at $430 pw and Model 3 $399pw. It also has the Kona @$380pw. there are different cars to choose from, the price in my deal above was what it showed me for a model Y.

May not be a deal for everyone

Doesn't that apply to every deal?

Anyone looking at this should compare the pricing to a novated lease, if it's available through where they work. It has the hassle of a balloon payment or selling it at the end but likely works out a lot better than $500 a week (I'm under $800 a month for an atto 3, all inclusive of insurance/rego/etc)

    • +1

Yes - fair point, if you factor in the additional balloon payment at the end of the lease term.
Edit: Plus, you will still need to wait to order the new car.

unfortunately, novated leases are not really worth it for most people these days….

On EVs they are, comes out of pre-tax monies even if it's 100% personal use.

        • On EVs they are

Are there different rules for EVs ?

          • +5

@jv: Yup, they are exempt from fringe benefits tax.

            • @freefall101: and they're currently showing reasonable resale values supporting balloon on way out.

    • That's really good, much cheaper than the online calculators would suggest.

Did you do have to do much negotiation? What term is the lease?

      • It's $780ish after the tax benefits, actual payments are over a grand. Sorry, my post wasn't very clear.

I need to hand in my ozbargain card because I did very little negotiations. Effective interest rate is about 9%.

        • Atto3 costs around 50k and Tesla MY is around 65k - so about 1.25x the cost. If we times the novated lease by 1.25 - that’s around $1000pm (considering tax benefits) if Atto 3 is $1000 pre tax then the Tesla might be $1250 pre tax. There will also be a balloon payment at the end depending on the lease term.
It’s getting close to this deal - as the long term rates may be 430pw ~1700 pm and no balloon.

          • @Dealking: $1700pm vs $1000pm is pretty different. And $430pw is about $1860pm.

Balloon doesn't matter either since you get to keep the car, unlike the lease. My balloon is about $15k inc GST after 5 years, the car will likely be worth significantly more than that. I also didn't mention that, being in Victoria, I get $3k cash paid to me for the ZEV rebate too (I think that's an SG Fleet thing).

There's benefits looking at the AGL deal for 6-12 months because it's impossible to get 6 month novated leases and 12 months would involve a huge balloon payment to deal with. Plus there's the ability to switch cars and get a new one every 6 months. But for any longer, lease is the way to go.

I ordered mine through Leaslab and it cost me around 2200$ before tax money (so if its 37%) it would come to around ~1350/month for MY rwd + FSD and gets insurance and rego + charging. You need to consider from the 2024-25 financial year the tax slab will move instead of getting a 37% benefit you would be getting 30%

Honestly,I'm too fat to fit in a Tesla.

  • This is a shocking 'deal'. I can't imagine anyone would actually sign up to this.

Go with a novated lease if available, otherwise even traditional car finance is better than this.

  • Can I try out this plan for 1 week?
    I have commitment issues

    • You can try for a month - but I guess you will still have to pay the joining fee.
Alternately, you could explore joining for 6 or 12 months and just pay the early termination fees if that works out to be cheaper.

  • If AGL get a single customer with this, it's a miracle..

UNLESS …. It's a tax right off somehow?

EV novated leases are pretty good for the person who can't deduct driving to work (which Should be deductible and a crime that it isnt). Also if you need a loan, novated lease is a no brainer.

If you drive an EV a majority for work (because that is different 'to' work), then by it outright and use the logbook method and deduct the % of all car costs that you use the car 'for work'. For me it was 79%. ICE novated lease couldn't get close to 79%, not sure what the breakeven % is for comparison to an EV novated lease.

  • For Tesla 3:
    Monthly subscription fee
(non AGL cust, excl. charger) $1820
    $1820 on $63k car is 34.7% p.a.
even if you throw in $3k on insurance, rego and whatever, and add $10k car depreciation (which is much less at the moment), that's still be 14%p.a.

Tesla has 7.07% finance, IMB bank has 6% comparison rate.

Not sure what the cost would be on installing an EV charger from scratch including wiring vs installing a charger on existing wiring.

Potentially beneficial if you want an EV charger installed from scratch, after six months they'd come and take the charger away but you'd have all the wiring done.

    • Potentially beneficial if you want an EV charger installed from scratch, after six months they'd come and take the charger away

Six months = 26 weeks = $13000. You can get a LOT of electrical work done for that much.

Join up, pay for one week, then cancel in the first week. The only break cost mentioned is $300, so $800 cost all up. That's a better deal to get your wiring installed.

      • Sorry I did not read the fine print and glossed over it thinking this might be a good option for us if you got to keep the charger.
Realised you didn't but thought it might be helpful but you're right it definitely is not financially a good route.

    • Install cost for my charger is $800 including the wiring and whatever, that was from just a couple of weeks ago. Only a short distance from the switchboard though.

$500 a week to rent a car, FFS
    $26000/year 'poof, vanished'
