  • Just waiting for the rumoured pc port…

  • GOTY

That'll probably go to Tears of the Kingdom. Perhaps a few years too late, no?

Surely this isn't a bargain at this price or am i wrong?

    • For the director's cut it's a good price. The PS5 version is the cheapest it's been at Amazon, Big W once had it for just $49. The PS4 version has been down to $39 at Amazon during Christmas sales last year.

    • Further to just pricing, it received 87 on Metacritic and nominated for GOTY at the Golden Joystick and The Game Awards.

Really wish this game can be heavily discounted like The Last of Us Part 2.
Played it when Sony had that $3 for 1 month for PS Plus Extra.

Highly recommend this, loading times and are near instant on PS5. I paid full price and I think it’s worth every penny

  • Played it on the OG PS4 and it's still absolutely stunning running on decade old hardware. Amazing game and I'm just trying to find time to give it a replay

Don't forget Comm Bank rewards .. $10 cashback on $50 spend .. might be a targeted offer

    • At which store? Big W or Amazon?

  • Great game, the extra for directors cut is well worth it too.

I won't support Sony resetting the RRP for basically DLC to an old game, then installing a price paywall to unlock current-gen settings. On 95% of XBOX titles you pay the one price regardless of which platform you install it on.

    • Unfortunately, Microsoft has also joined the dark side recently:

      • Raising prices of its new first party exclusive titles (so while it is the same price for Series S|X and One S|X version), the price has gone up.
      • The new user $1/month GamePass Ultimate deal for the first month (and occasionally offering that deal to people with elapsed subscription) is not being offered (at least for now) just as Sony stopped offering PS Plus collection to PS5 owners with PS Plus subscription.

Still nothing compared to Sony on the cross-generation pricing and delivery strategy. I am not entirely against price increases in the next-gen only games (I never buy at full price anyway of course).

It's currently $50+ to buy the Director's Cut PS5 of Tsushima, which isn't the worst deal in the world if you've never owned or played it before, but for the many of us that already own the game, it's currently (discounted price) $15 upgrade for the DLC and $10 for the PS5 specs, so $25 to get 2 x DLC (one of which I don't want - the coop mode) and the ability to play on a PS5 at top hardware capability. Joke.

        • Then, don't buy it now. Also, let's look at the OZBer cheapo way:

          • Sony had that $3/month PS Plus Extra for 1 month deal. This game is in there. I played it (and it was digital so no need to even insert the disc).
          • Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was one of the free games offered in one particular month of PS Plus (Essentials).

As an ex-owner of Ghost of Tsushima PS4 version, my way of dealing with Sony's unfair pricing on this game was: traded in the game 1 year ago. I did get a decent price from EB games (way better than what EB offered me for The Last of Us Part 2). Not happy about the price? Don't buy, or if you bought it before, trade it in when there is some EB promotion for trade in.

Honestly, my main gripe with Sony with these PS5 "versions" or "remake" (i.e. TLOU part 1) is those studios are using that as an excuse to refine old titles instead of working on new titles. Naughty Dog is STILL on TLOU part 2 factions. Had Sony not purchased Insomniac Games, PS5 exclusives so far would be even more lacklustre.

          • @netsurfer: Yes happy to wait or not buy at all. Just annoyed that Sony have been such bastards this generation.

            • @jirskyr: Well, I wondered whether Sony will eventually offer it free in one of the future months as a PS Plus free game. Pretty much majority of PS4 key exclusives had been given out as a monthly PS Plus free game in the past. I happened to purchase Uncharted 4 digital version when it was cheap, got the $15 upgrade to PS5 version (and that included a movie voucher to "that" movie).

The $3 PS Plus Extra for a month was great. Played Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West, FF7 Remake Intermission, Spiderman MM. Played a bit of Returnal, Demon's Souls and a few other games. I actually got the $5 Deluxe one and tried out God of War Ragnarök, Cyberpunk 2077. Had GamePass Ultimate for 3 years and decided to stop. I think if not too fixated in owning those games, occasional GamePass Ultimate and PS Plus Extra is a great way to save.

While I am glad I played majority of Ghost of Tsushima on the PS5 version, the game was hyped up too much for me. I enjoyed it, but too many follow the footstep trails and the auto camera angle can be a little bit wonky at times. Collect the six farmstead keys to pick up the Gosaku Armor quest is a bit annoying (long and sometimes you just waste time trying to find the last hostage in some of the farmsteads).

  • I was waiting for ages for this but there was a recent digital upgrade sale so got it instead. Such a good game.

$30 seems to be my cut off point for buying well reviewed games like this that I never actually play.

    • +1

Hold out for $20, they all get there eventually.

      • Less likely for PS5 exclusives. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has never been that cheap. Although it’s on PS+ Extra.

        • +3

R&C:RA is just coming up to 2 years old. R&C is always sub-$20. You just have to be OK to play games that are more than a few years old and ignore the hype of new-release games.

Apart from Switch, where you have no choice, I try to never buy any XB/PS game over $20. Even if it takes several years; my pile of shame is easily big enough to keep me occupied whilst I wait. The gap between last and current-gen games is not so big anymore.

  • PS5 has sold out at Amazon but the PS4 is still available and dropped to $38 now! Just ordered.
