The screen looks like a downgrade, only shows either temp or time but not both at once, the old dial is faster than buttons too. I guess you are meant to use the app.

Agreed. At risk of sounding like my dad, I prefer the simple dial versions.

    • Yeah that's not as good but i dont mind buttons tbh though large temp changes would be annoying, also the screen flashes between temp and time according to a youtube video of this.

Voice control is also enabled, compatible with Amazon Alexa.

This might be better than the app imo if you have Alexa.

    • it is also cheaper both at RRP and on sale than the regular one

    • It has app connection if you need more details by the sounds

  • Can temperature and timer be adjusted via the app?

  • Cheers. Just snagged one. Reviews for it are pretty good so looking forward to firing it up.

  • Actually after comparing them the 5000 series is a downgrade you don’t get a lot of the features the 9870 gives you also the only difference between the 9870 and 5000 is Wi-Fi that is why they are also much cheaper. It’s still a bargain though as I bought my 9870 for $349 from Myer

    • Curious what things as missing?

Only notable feature i could tell is the smart sensing feature, but we gain wifi and the ability to send recipes from the app to the airfryer as well as voice control since it's compatible with Amazon Alexa.

      • Yep that’s pretty much it but smart sensing is worth it

        • Wifi and remote internet connectivity on a device that converts 2000W right into heat sounds like… just not a smart idea.

    • What do you mean by features? Don't air fryers mainly need to deal with time and temperature? Genuine question.

      • Smart sensing is where you input what you're cooking, and air fryer weighs the food, and uses different programmes to cook food to perfection. So I think it doesn't necessarily stay at a single temperature. I don't have one, don't really know how much better they are compared to air fryers that are just temperature + time.

    • 5000 Series sounds like it's a mid-range compared to previous 9870.

Presumably they'd have 7000 and 9000 at some point, with more complete feature sets.

      • This is what I thought also it’s more midrange.
I mean what am I going to stack it with raw meat in the morning then when I’m at work use Wi-Fi to log in and get it to cook while I’m at work and have it ready by the time I’m home…. I don’t think I’d like my food sitting in it all day ..

        • Ahaha perhaps you have a big house and you can't hear it when it's done.

Someone further up said something about sending recipes, would be kind of useful to get instructions for what to do at that point in the cycle or whatever.

          • @TheContact: I don’t understand the send recipes to it .. I mean at a point it beeps its balls off until you give it a shake or flip whatever your cooking or it won’t continue. It’s still not completely automated having Wi-Fi connectivity. It Just informs your phone with a message but then again not like you’re going to forget that you just put dinner on and cooking or lunch, so sooner or later your going to be walking to it to check it

it's confusing as hell calling it 5000 series while the model is HD9285/90.

  • How big are these? Big enough for a pork belly?

    • Yep should fit it from coles or woolies one make sure you poke holes in it and salt it up

      • +1

Aldi is the best place to shop for pork bellies. Cheaper and better quality. Can't fault that really. 🐷👍

  • bought one
    Cheers
