    Crikey that’s a busy face

    • +12

The stuff around the dial is a slide rule that rotates internally with the left crown. It's for pilots and shit. Besides that, the dial is fine imo, I think Nighthawks are dope and one of citizen's best models

      • +7

Yes…. I’m aware, thank you lol. Knowing that doesn’t make the appearance any less busy :-P

        • +3

Cool. I think it's perfectly fine and easily legible for telling the time and date. The other shit is just a bonus.

          • +3

@rosebank: I mean, “bonus” is subjective. Confucius say; by adding too many complications, watch lose something else.

            • +5

@ASR-Briggs: Upvoting because your comment's funny. I disagree though; I love a complex watch. :-)

              • +3

@colossus: same. i cant stand empty just 2 needles watch face

              • @colossus: I have an automatic chronometer with a tachymeter. That’s the limit of my “watch busy-ness” lol. Even then, I never wear it. My tastes have shifted somewhat.

    • +1

Agree, it's a certain look but I'd prefer something more legible on the field watch side of pilot watches. Hamilton do a wide variety of good ones.

I doubt very many people would use the markings for any real life applications. At least GMT and dive bezels you can use to track different times and as a timer.

Depends what you like the look of I guess, I think the blue one looks better.

Atomic radio no good in Aus either, you want Bluetooth.

    • Over 700 markings/glyphs.

    New day, new watch

  • +5

So much text squeezed into such little space.

Probably easier just to carry an E6B in your back pocket. At least you can read it accurately.

Designer: What dials should we include?
    Citizen: Yes

  • +1

You will get a degree after interpreting the dial.

    • +1

It's actually surprisingly easy after being taught and regular practice (like anything in life I guess).

      • +1

My dials tend to be super clean, as I struggle to comprehend more than one complication at a time. In this case with all thrown at me… I'll be so confused.

  • +1

    Very busy…

"radio controlled (function active areas Europe, USA, Japan and China)". Pity there are no radio controlled time transmissions here in Australia.

    • +2

I'll be going to the places you listed in a couple months. But Canada, not the US.

    • +1

That’s what I thought. Bit useless.

      • +4

I have once picked up the Japan signal with my one (Japan only JDM version of this watch) here in Melbourne. I think it needs a specific set of weather conditions.

      • +2

It's useful if you're going to those countries

        • Yes, but if you live in Australia not really a selling point.

        • Not really, unless you're staying in those countries long enough for a quartz movement to go noticeably out of sync. Which isn't most travellers.

I admit to being a bit excited to finally see my watch sync on a US trip, but it was only a two week trip so hardly useful.

          • @rumblytangara: I'll be in Europe for a month, Canada for a month, and then Asia for a month

            • @rosebank: A month is hardly enough time for a watch to go noticeably out of true.

Don't get me wrong, I like proper time sync- I use Android tablets at home instead of wall clocks, but let's not kid ourselves here about how useful radio synching is for travelling.

              • +1

@rumblytangara: Look man, I agree with you. I have many radio controlled watches but that has never been a selling point for me, just cool gimmick. And yes, with a quartz eco-drive movement, it'd be accurate for my entire trip. The perpetual calendar and world time is more important for me, but I do think arriving in a country and not having to set the time is useful. That is the useful part I'm referring to, not the accuracy by syncing to a atomic clock in Geneva or whatever.

                • +1

@rosebank: It's neat having both of my G-Shock watches now syncing to the Casio watches app automatically, both are solar+bt models so no need to adjust the time. Easier setting up the features too rather than pressing all the buttons.

A lot of my autos I buy now don't have a date, so very quick to set, or maybe a date window at most. Screw setting day and date if you rotate several watches.

                  • +1

@G-rig: I have about 6 G-Shocks with BT. Never bothered to download the app.

I also hate setting day/date, that's why I like perpetual calendars and rarely wear my autos.

I'm gonna buy something like this: https://starbuy.com.au/meistersinger-no-1-mens-watch-am3303/

                    • @rosebank: Should get the app, uses stuff all power running in the background. iAt least they are consolidated into one app for the ones I got now.. no need for two apps.

Worth buying the newer module G-Shock anyway with Aus date format.

                      Nice will check it out.

                      • @G-rig: The reason i haven't used the app is because I never wear them

                        • @rosebank: Should sell then.

Ps. Laco Venedig 39 and Baltics are pretty good offerings..

                          • @G-rig: I was going to buy some Laco and Stowa fliegers about 10-15 years ago when they were under $500 AUD shipped. But I never pulled the trigger

                            • @rosebank: Yeah a lot of fleiger micro brand watches aren't that cheap anymore, but still keen to get a 40mm one.

                              • @G-rig: Stowa and Laco aren't exactly microbrands, maybe compared to IWC. All 3 made fliegers for the Nazis German airforce

                                • @rosebank: oh right- either way they aren't bad, not really cheap either though but I like the level of customisation offered by Laco..

                                • @rosebank: What about the Certina DS Action Diver?
Looks a bit big at 43mm possibly but like the PWD black.

                                  • @G-rig: i dunno, pretty ordinary for a grand

                                    • @rosebank: True enough. Not a bad simple design in black. If I was going to get a black pvd I'd want white markings and more military Style.

JJY Emulator will do the trick. Apple. Google.

Pity there are no radio controlled time transmissions here in Australia.

Apparently, there's an app for that…

Really good specs on the watch. I do prefer the blue dial one.
Let us know when that blue one goes on sale for around $300

    • I have that already, it's nice. And I'm not buying any more blue, black, green dial and black pvd watches.

  • +2

I've got the JDM Titanium version of this, blue with a white slide rule ring circa 2005.

The radio only works in Japan which is a shame so I have to disable it. But still the perpetual calendar works fine without it.

Its my daily driver for over 10 years and I love it. I have replaced the capacitor recently they don't last forever.

    • I love that JDM model.10 years without needing a service is pretty great. I needed change the battery in an old solar Seiko after about 3 years.

      • I've only had it for 10 years I believe that capacitor was original from 2005, so it ran for over 15 years. Which is about right according to forums etc.

Agree with everyone elses comment - how the hell do I read this?

That's an awesome colour-way. I haven't seen this model before. I'm tempted to add one to my collection.

I think it'd look good on you.

Tempting, tempting. However, my credit card is still recovering from a panda attack.

Dive watches are popular. Apart from desk diving, how often do you think dive watches go diving?

      • Yeah they are good for a reason, even if you don't take them in the water.

  • Perfectly happy to get labelled a fashion-pleb over this, but that is an ugly watch

  • +1

Man, I can't afford this right now.. I don't have a red face yet but I reckon the blue one looks BEAUT.

    • +1

Starbuy has had the blue one on sale a few times. I bought it for under $300

  • If this was satellite instead of radio im there.
