Up to $210 Cashback on New Gas & Electricity Signups via Econnex @ ShopBack

140

Haven't seen this posted anywhere so thought I'd share. The timing couldn't have been better for me as I am moving house and received this email from ShopBack today.

Now I'm not usually a fan of these utility "brokers" however they seem to be offering the exact same plans as the Victorian Energy Comparison website without any markup?? I chose Tango as they were already cheapest for me according to the VIC comparison website.

New Gas Signups
$80.00
New Electricity Signups
$130.00
New Gas & Electricity Signups
$210.00

They are also offering $109 Cashback if you change your NBN provider through them at this link

Isn't Econnex the company that doesn't actually pay out?

I don't work for Econnex and frankly I couldn't give a stuff about them, but if you read the comments it seems that most people did receive their gift cards in the end, or it was because they didn't follow the t&c's. The GC's came from Woolworths not Econnex so people may have thought it was spam. Give them a fair go before writing them off completely.

I'd be more concered about them spamming you with marketing info via phone and email so it's probably best to use a burner SIM and email.

    • Not affiliated with them in anyway but have used them twice and both times they've paid out. So that's two sets of $200 Woolies GC's. The first time I think I had to follow up but that's because I didn't read the T&C's and when it'll get paid. I think I may have also used them to switch ISP once and got a $50 GC.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether you're better off or not with a switch. I've been lazy the last 7mths or so and haven't looked at switching so this might motivate me to have a look

Got every one of many gift vouchers over last years. Change electricity retailers about every 2 months. Never had a problem.

      • Did you use your real ID with Econnex?

I would take a look at their privacy policy.

        • That was with NBN Deal, not energy Deal!!

I've followed it, but not a concern for me.

          Econnex explained it wasn't them.
But third party (overseas business) selling nbn service that "accidentally" disclosed details!

Econnex need to share your details with third party businesses to arrange the connection of services. As shown in t&c.

But you hyperventilated in link with "Do NOT give these mofos your real ID."

There is no Deal without it!!
How do they connect the NBN etc to a fake address?
          A contact can't be made with a fake person…
And there will be no cashback etc because of that.

          With advice like that…
No wonder people then complain about not receiving the benefit they expected from Deals😜

If unsure - don't sign up (for almost anything)!

That's not an issue when switching electricity retailers, in my years of experience.

I deal with Econnex ONLY to switch Australian electricity retailers. They have their own privacy policies.

I only supply details that are associated with my electricity bill - necessary to AUTHORISE transfer of service! (Name, address, contact number & email)
Those same details are needed if dealing directly with the energy retailer.

Most supply that when getting something free here. Only difference, energy retailers need real details - to change service.

If you don't give details as they appear on bill - they can't switch retailer as you don't have authority!!

Over a few years - no issues.
Happy switching with Econnex many times.
          Has meant effectively FREE electricity!!

          But I'm cautious…
Had far bigger problems with Coles Liquor Group, for disclosing far more online.

Others here saw my personal information when ordering whiskey in a Deal!
Coles refused to even reply to my complaints😠

Until a member here raised the issue including a screenshot of my personal details.

Only then Coles Liquor Group sent a registered letter acknowledging the data breach, as required by.Law.

No apology, no compensation, just it happened, move on! Refused to reply to me.
Had to change my credit card etc.

What a lot of shit due to a major local business disclosing private information!

Far more than disclosed by that third party.

But no complaints about them disclosing private information - every time Coles Deals are posted here😠

  • I’ve used them when switching my internet to Superloop. Have never paid out or never seen GC. Can’t speak for others’ experience but i won’t be using them again.

    • +3

      Did you contact them?
Like many complaining about other cashback offers, most complain here, rather than directly with the business.

And like with all cashback offers, there are conditions. The business has to be paid for your new service first, to then pay you. If incorrect info is provided, there will be no cashback.

Some have complained, but found the cash back email in the junk folder.

Never missed out in Econnex offers. That's why I keep using them - directly.

  • Econnex does not show for me (Sydney,NSW) other energy providers that I found has cheaper Usage and Supply rates on the NSW Comparison site like GloBird and Powershop.

    • +1

      Econnex isn't a energy retailer!

It's a comparison site, making a profit for signing up new customers to energy retailers. Has its own Deals here.
That's why they provide vouchers or cashback.

I'm currently with PowerShop, switched retailer directly through Econnex. Before that Alinta, Ovo,… Each for about 2 months
About to change again for next incentive.

The Cashback or vouchers make the swap profitable for me. Effective $0 electricity cost each year.

  • if only Econnex had their $200 offer still and could combine with shopback tog et $400

    • You cant double dip as Econnex provide the cashback to CR & SB, as well as offering their own Deals here.

Econnex would otherwise be paying out twice, but only receiving 1 commision from energy retailers for attracting 1 new customer!

  • Does anyone know how long you need to stay with the provider? can't really tell. I know with Econex its only 30 days.

    • -1

      says 100 days

      • thanks!
        yea too long

      • No. That's taken for cashback!
Not the time before can switch energy retailer.

        • seemed like it was both

          • @michael9865: States CASHBACK REDEEMABLE in 100 days.

Not that you have to stay with energy retailer that long!

With DIRECT offers from Econnex, it's a min of 30d. I swap retailers about every 60d & always receive the payout

            • @INFIDEL: well that is the only information available so safe to assume it is, unless you are saying it is something else, but if you don't have any info, then you can't claim it isn't as it could be

              • @michael9865: It's been discussed before in previous Deals.

Similar to a purchase of anything made today may take around 100d to payout cashback. Even though there is no minimum period with a purchase.

Payment has to first be received by Econnex from energy retailer. (After staying minimum period)
They pay SR or CR, who take time before paying us!

                • @INFIDEL: yep, I understand that. and that is the case but also there are two scenarios i can think of either you just need to stay one day or you need to stay 100 days as no other info is given.

                  • @michael9865:

just need to stay one day or you need to stay 100 days

                    No! Don't just guess!!
                    Ask the Rep!
Look up answers in previous SB Deals!

                    Just think….
Obviously, Econnex won't receive any payment from energy retailer, unless you stay a minimum of 1 billing cycle (30+d min), as stated in their direct Deals.
                    So, No cashback for 1d!!

Long processing time (by Econnex + SB) means 100 days is way too long for min stay!
100d min wouldn't allow any time for processing cashback!

Econnex take a min of 90 to process direct Deal payouts. Despite 30d min.
Most businesses take 30-60d to pay referring business.
Payout will be longer adding SB processing time!

Econnex receives payment from electricity retailers after 1 monthly bill cycle. Gas has taken longer, by comments in Econnex Deals.

I've only taken up offers directly with Econnex. It's more certain & faster.
So not of interest to me!

  • trying to see if there are better deals out there as the rates on this are similiar or lower than other energy providers that I've checked so far. Maybe try to get something with fixed rates

    • Just do a search!

e.g. Targeted Reward Points offers of 15k ($75) for Gas & 25K ($125) for Electricity @ Origin Energy. 30d min! Pts within 45d.
      Definitely not cheapest rates.
Take the offer & leave after 30d💰 I am!

      • True, life getting a bit more busy now so hoping to just find a fixed rate offer instead of changing every 2 months

  • Just used this offer to switch to Tango. Used Tango (in Vic) a couple of years ago and their Electricity prices were great. Swapped out when the jacked them. Been with Energy Australia since with both Gas and Elec. EA have jacked their Gas prices up terribly. My new rate is 25% more than my current plan. Elec is also up by 5%. Tango eSelect plans are the best value for money at the moment. I've signed up for the Vic Comparison $250 offer, and this $210 offer. Let's see which comes through :D.Both will be a bonus. If they don't I'd be paying 9% more than my current rate. Beware however - Tango Elec rates are due to be reviewed in July/Aug. Gas was done in Feb, so think I'm ok on that front till '24.

    • Hoping someone can assist.
Tango haven't received the order. In fact they say they don't know econnex. I called the econnex telephone number but get - the office is currently closed. What's going on?

      • +1

I signed up with Tango via Econnex yesterday and received my welcome pack within a couple of hours. Have you checked your email?

        • Thanks for the quick reply :).
I got the email from econnex with their reference # last night. Called Tango a few mins ago and they say that they haven't received any orders, hence I've not received a welcome pack. (Assume the welcome pack you're referring to was directly from Tango?).

How long did it take from sign-up to the welcome pack arriving?

          • +1

@OrderedChaos: Sorry, I just checked and turns out I received it at 9:23pm, so I guess it wasn't within a couple of hours. It took about 7 hours in the end.

And yes it was from Tango

            • @CyberHippy: Awesome. At least it actually happened.
I signed up at around 10pm last evening. So 12hrs.
I need to get to Tango asap. :D. Energy Aus rates are mad. Was just concerned because Tango said they did not know econnex and the econnex office number is non functional. Thanks for confirming.
