Now that Amazon JP products are available directly through Amazon AU, it seems like a few of the more recent gunpla kits (mostly Witch from Mercury) are being sold at more or less JP retail prices.

can't see the prices you are posting 🥲

    • +1

Shows up in incognito, just need to add to cart then login

      • still can't find the discounted price

        • If you can't see the right price I would search for the item using the full Amazon title. It'll come up showing the price as 1 of x offers. Click of that link until the right link/price shows. You can add to the cart there.

Edit: This is in a browser though.

          It will get better though.

Can confirm it works on incognito mode on mobile. Thank you @chorong.

Search up full product title “Bandai Hobby Kit Hg 1/144 Gundam Aerial, White”.
        Add to cart > login.

Thanks OP! My 8 year old nephew coincidentally just asked if I still built Gundams because he’s interested. This will be great for a build night for us :)

        Edit: used Chrome on mobile.

        • Please help, cannot find this price any more.

    • changing browsers worked for me

  • Oh damn I haven’t built a Gundam for over 15 years lmao - nice one op will grab a few

We can purchase Amazon JP products through Amazon AU now!? Lord have mercy on my bank account.

Edit: The linking of some of the items are a hit or a miss. I didn't have any luck going through your links (they seem to redirect to the AU listings) but could find the Amazon JP items via searching the item name (same thing happened for a few other max factory figures, theres 1 listing for AU, US and German based sellers and an entirely different one for JP).

    • +1

Yeah, it's been going for a few days now. Use the app for better results with links on here.

I think I need to remove my OzB search alert for Japan 😁

      • How does this work actually? When I go to amazon.com.au site, I can't see stuff from the amazon japan store?

    • +1

You and me both. My place will be filled with Japanese merchandise very soon.

    • +3

Every time I order things from amazon jp with this much of a discount it usually ends up getting cancelled within 24hrs. It would be amazing if these actually go through. These are definitely being sold at a loss if they're shipped form jp at these prices. Several banpresto anime figures at half price too. On a side note, rip au retailers selling figures at 2x to 3x price.

      • +2

I can respect local retailers trying to bring these things to AU. Margins can be so thin

      • The Banpresto stuff is from Amazon AU and they're trying to clear slow moving stock. Last I checked AmazonJP doesn't sell prize figures only resellers.

      • I didnt find any discount, just the same price as if buying in Japan, shipping locally without international delivery fee. All my orders were fullfilled and they are daily household items like toothpaste, towel.

      • Do you have a link for any Banpresto figures on sale now? Couldnt find any

      • Oh damn, but at the same time totally understandable (like what the other commenters said, I don't think this price will even cover the shipping costs). I might be showing my age here but yoinks ago the only way to get figures from Japan was either you fly there yourself or pay exorbitant prices (plus shipping) to sketchy eBay sellers, I'm glad the market is starting to grow over here in Aus (even if it is sometimes 2 to 3 times the price…).

        • Thing is for a lot of figures, its not even that much more buying here than buying in Japan. Heck sometimes its the other way around as there are plenty of oppountistic resellers trying to cash in on the latest hotness.

I remember 2019 if i knew the prices, I would've loaded my luggage with 2 cartons of Nezuko Figures and sold it to reseller stores without haggling and it'd have paid for my trip twice over. (who then sold for another 50% markup).

Take Metal structure Sazabi. At its height during pre-order, thing was $7000 AUD on amazon JP. RRP here is $3000.

          • @wackedupwacko: Hahaha I hear you and I'm definitely glad the prices are lower now (and way easier to buy online). But when i say yoinks I mean the late 2000s/early 2010s when eCommerce really started to pick up again after the dot com bust 😂 (I've been in this game for way to long and my better half lets me know constantly).

    • It is not all products but products fullfilled directly by Amazon JP. The key to search is to use the part number. Not everything is shippable to Australia e.g. medicine.

    • I hear you - there's been a big hole for Japanese stuff since Rakuten went west

    • :D I think it's for selected products (like there's a international box to tick from their side)

but yeah - grabbed like 10. Won't be here till late June though :(

they forgot to mention - these are made in Japan!

Bandai 1/144 High-Grade Strike Freedom Gundam Plastic Model Kit $20.04
    https://amzn.asia/d/fDFIlRj
Some more models can be found in app

  • worked for me after searching item name in search bar and clicking on the results found turned up as per title price

Soory noob here. Will they come with those colours already or we need to paint them?
    Im not good in painting

    • +5

      No need to paint

    • It depends. Most of them are largely colour accurate, with most of the parts in the correct colour and the newer kits being better if not perfect on that aspect. There might be a few parts that are the wrong colour or need stickers, but they're in the minority. They always look better painted though, but very serviceable as a straight build.

      Fyi no glue needed either.

    • They are molded in coloured plastic so no painting is required to achieve stock photo result. Snap fit as well so no glue required.
All you need is a hobby knife and a pair of snippers, I highly recommend the God-hand clones, I picked one up for $30 or something.

    • +1

most of the parts are usually molded in color already, some parts might require touch ups or stickers

use a fine tip black pen to fill in some of the panel lines if you are up for it.

for this particular one, this is what you can expect straight out of the box

      http://dalong.net/reviews/hg/wmf01/wmf01_i.htm

built with no paint, stickers applied, and some panel lines filled

      http://dalong.net/reviews/hg/wmf01/wmf01_p.htm

    • +1

You don't haven't paint them but colouring can make them better. The red on the Gundam aerial is more like brownish-red or brick-red and the blue plastic is a washed out faded-blue. I haven't painted any of my gundams but the Aerial would be the first one I'd paint

Sharon: This doesn't make sense. Are those stupid things supposed to be animals or robots or what?

Randy: I don't know, but I suddenly kinda wanna own them all.

  • Most of the links show at the correct prices through the Amazon mobile app. Didn't really work on my desktop browser

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

I can't see these prices? I'm in the app and browser… Do I need to delete it clear any caches?

  • +2

Building aeriel right now actually. It's awesome and definitely the pinnacle of manufacturing. Lots of quite unique components, including transparent pieces with printing on them and stickers with the printed side on the sticky side. Also has a partial frame which is nice too. Being a main character build it's also underpriced for what it is.

    • That brought back so many memories…

  • +1

Ah it is not working for me. Any tips I searched on the Amazon app and found for 15 aud then when click comes to 45 aud. Gezz I nee done of those. Thx in adv

  • Bought one, thanks

  • +3

I just kept on refreshing the browser until I saw the price. I ordered 5 different Gundams from $17.xx to $20.xx. Thanks, Op.

    • Just found another one: Bandai Hobby Kit 1/144 Hguc Rx-178 Gundam Mk-Ⅱ(Titans) $16.93

  • -3

Without the picture, I would have no clue what this listing was

  • Thanks OP! Need to refresh couple times, then I see the discount for each item and got free Prime trial membership. Order 3 items then cancelled 1 I don't want.

    • @braday
When you cancel does it add the ahipping back?
Or total still over 49 after you cancel 1…

  • Thanks just got an aerial. Kind of feel bad, as I generally source via little robot in Perth. But at that price it's a no brainer.

  • Thanks OP, got the pricing from the APP.

  • Got 5 different kits. Hopefully that would be all… Forgot to use SB, but oh well. :D

    • Which 5? I got 3 gundams (white blue red models, not the brown)

      • HGCE Freedom Revive, HG Aerial, HGAC Wing Zero, HG Strike Freedom, and HG Heindree Sturm.

Edit: Added HGCE Aile Strike and Michaelis. :D

  • Does this kit come with the pliers to cut the plastic bits off?

  • +2

Worked by doing the incognito -> add to cart -> login and pay.
Thanks OP, for letting me spend $85!

  • Better pick up some knipex super knips too!

    • Link?

      • Just go to bunnings and get any side cutter and also a scalpel

    • +2

Don't think knipex make any nippers that particularly help with plastic over a generic pair. Maybe a Tamiya 74123/74035 for general purpose plastic cutting, or dspiae/godhand spn-120 for a single-blade plastic nipper

  • 3 gundams total $51.46 perfect for non prime like me, free shipping from Japan.
Not sure how amazon can make profit?

    • Lol 😂 they make you addictive to Amazon then they increase the price later. Remember how they first launched in Australia back in 2018?

    • Amazon only takes commissions from the selling price. They don’t care how cheap it is.

      • This is sold by amazon not marketplace. Sold by amazon means amazon is acting as a seller and buying stock from manufacturers at certain rates. There is a very real margin for them in this and can end up as losses.

        • -1

Not really. Amazon never buy stocks. Merchants just enroll the SBA program and get paid at least the Minimum Gross Proceed if price is lower. Amazon could force merchant to lower the MGP. Amazon may lost on MGPs but they still take commissions anyway.

          • @rhyme324: Amazon definitely purchases and sells themselves as well. This was active way before SBA was even a thing. The backend for this is completely different and does a lot of wholesaler/manufacturers heads in because of how incompetant amazon's buying team tends to be. (US distributors for Gunpla for example have multiple FT staff dedicated to deal with Amazon as their only job).

I know my friend had a huge headache getting Amazon AU to order gunpla on time for pre-orders (as they'd often miss the deadline then ask flater on) before working for the local distributor.

    • They don't. They however likely don't lose much money either as they're running their own consolidated shipping.

A lot of the cost locally is shipping importing costs which of you can minimise would reduce cost.

  • +1

anyone found any MGs for sale?

  • +4

Out of interest, what else does the Japanese store have that we wouldn't get normally?

  • not a gundam fan, but they look good. any suggestion which ones to get?

    • The Aerial for sure.

    • Aeriel. It's completely new, uses the latest manufacturing techniques, completely colour correct, and hugely underpriced (they always underprice the main characters).

      • Not necessarily, 3-4 months ago priced would've been the other way as you can't find Aerias. Heck you still can't find them in physical stores in JP so i don't expect stock to stay at this price for long.

    • The Gundam Aerial is the most popular one out of the ones listed above but that is mostly because it is the main gundam in the currently airing show.

      • thanks guys i may grab the aerial and pick up other good looking ones to my taste.

        • +1

Afterwards, if you want to try out some more complicated and more detailed kits, the Real Grade Hi-Nu kit is an absolutely excellent.

  • Adding another one to to the pile of shame. Got HG Aerial, had to refresh the amazon screen about 7 times to get the JP price to show up and be able to add to cart. Thanks OP!

  • +4

For those interested at what's available via Amazon AU: https://www.amazon.com.au/s?me=A2K69GP4EI3XWZ&marketplaceID=…

  • Tried to be naughty im not prime so add 4 items to get free shipping then cancel one but woalah they added the shipping haha, so I cancel them all

    • suprised that you are non prime.lol

      • I used to, for 2 years maybe more just lately not in the mood.
