    • Why not just buy one when you need it?

      • I remember the sim delivery time took 3 weeks previously (for me) LOL

  • will keep in mind when my telstra prepaid expires in about 400 days.

    • You can set a reminder at the top of the page if you forget.

  • Incoming calls and text is the same rate as outgoing or free?

  • -4

Are there any practical uses for this?

  • where is the $10 credit >?

  • +2

You can also get the 365 days by letting a current prepaid plan expire, i.e., you use a pre-paid monthly before going overseas for several month and do not recharge/renew the monthly plan. Your number is still active and kept for 365 days, so you can receive texts still for 2FA or hear from others.

    • +1

Careful with that, don't think it's 365 days. Think it's more like 3-6 months (depending on how aggressive your telco is.) Kogan, for example, I think turns off your ability to receive in 3 months. While I think you can still get your number back, I think they're allowed to recycle your number (i.e. can't get it back) after 6 months.

Afaik, 365 days might be possible but not risk-free, depending on your telco.

      • 10.3.1 of Amaysim's General Terms: "If you use the mobile Service Pre-paid Payment Option, the Service will be cancelled automatically if more than 455 days have passed since your last recharge of Airtime Credit (for the purposes of this clause, your last recharge may be Activation of your amaysim SIM Card). The 455 days indicated consists of a 365 day active period and a 90 day passive period. For more information on active and passive periods, please see the amaysim Mobile Service Description."

You actually get 455 days to keep your number, but the last 90 days you won't be able to receive texts (or calls if you're in Australia).

        • They say that but from experience, you will get a reminder on aniversary date, if you dont recharge they cancel it after a few weeks

        • That's not how I read it at all. They say 455 days after last recharge, so that 365 days active is what you've paid for.

I would then expect the 90 day passive to be being able to receive texts and calls.

After that, I assume you can't receive texts/calls (if they follow through), and then usually after at leas 6 months of no recharge, you probably lose the ability to keep your number.

Don't agree with your reading, I think what you quoted supported what I said all along. (And of course, it depends on the telco, and whether they strictly follow what they said. I'm sure some are more lenient.)

          • @dealz4all: This is what happened on my old prepaid account and why i moved to postpaid (which they dont offer anymore)

            Believe what you want bud.

          • @dealz4all: That clause isn't about a 365-day plan. That's for any prepaid service. See the Mobile Description document, section 6, and specifically, 6.4.

            https://www.amaysim.com.au/content/dam/amaysim/documents/ter…

"Your Airtime Credit may be used within a period of 365 days (unless otherwise stated) from your last recharge. This 365 day period is called the “Active Period” (for the pur- pose of determining your first Active Period, Activation is considered a recharge). Every time you recharge your Airtime Credit, a new 365 day Active Period for your entire Airtime Credit begins from the day of the recharge."

NOTE: this section isn't specifically about 365 day plans. It's about pre-paid plans in general, which can be 6 months or 28 days, etc.

Also says, "If you don’t recharge your Airtime Credit within the Active Period, you enter into the Passive Period. On the first day of the Passive Period your Airtime Credit expires and you will not be able to make outgoing calls, send SMS or MMS or download data. You may, however, receive calls and SMS. You may also make calls to our Service Hotline on 567 and to Emergency Services. During the entire Passive Period you will be able to recharge your Airtime Credit. Upon recharge, your Active Period will restart and continue for a further 365 days."

"Within a period of 10 days before the end of the Passive Period we will warn you by SMS and email that we may cancel your Service.

So, you are correct that you can receive texts during the Passive Period. The last sentence is a pretty important one: you will get 10-days warning before your service is cancelled and you could lose your number. Worst case, 10-day recharge. Any non-PayGo prepaid plan converts to PayGo after the prepaid airtime ends. In section 6.5 about Insufficient Airtime Credit, it makes no mention of going into the Passive period.

            • @bk1973: Cheers man. Thanks for clarifying.

Some people just like to argue , and dont like to take advise.

  • side question, which I already think I know the answer to, but will ask; wifi calling doesnt use the mobile plans data or credit right?

    • +1

Only if it’s voip or apple FaceTime. Otherwise it will use credit yes

  • I am pretty sure I got the $5 aldi 365 days activated and working a couple of weeks ago. Very confusing, but I managed to get it going.

  • +3

Hey guys, I got a $30 from Woolies and 600 points. Bought one yesterday using my 10%off and payed with gift card. I was able to choose a pay as you go and 365 validity. I also have $30 to spend. Absolute bargain.
You are better off to buy from Woolies as you pay $9, 600 points plus you also get $30 credit. Option to choose esim as well.

    • this deal? https://imgur.com/a/7nc3VXE
how do you choose the PAYG & 365 validity is it when you sign up, did you buy instore or online from Woolies?

      • +2

When you sign up online it gives multiple options to activate. I chose pay as you go and credited me $30

        • thanks

          • @Irishness: Hi , just wondering will the 50gb data be valid for 365 days with the payg option?

            • @Brainwhacker: there's another discussion on here about amayasim which has more detail, you can choose the plan you go on, can't remember if it expires or rolls over think it rolls onto the 365 days

            • @Brainwhacker: Anyone know the answer to this? Is the 50GB valid for 365 days if selecting PAYG?

              • @cheapninja: No allocated data when selecting PAYG plan. You will get $30 credits which expire in 365 days.

    • you get charge at all? what's your invoice like? my invoice said -25 and need to pay it

  • would the referral rewards work for this plan?

    • +1

Referral rewards are better than this (under current promo): buy a 28 day plan through a referral for $7.50, you get 28 days of usage (calls, data), $10 of credit added to the account, and if you switch off auto-renew you get switched to the PAYG plan with 1 year expiry at the end of 28 days.

      • Can you use referral rewards if you have an account with Amaysim already please?

        • This would defeat the purpose of having a referral system

  • +2

I bought it today and it's shows me Expires 27 May 2024. So one year that's what i was looking for.

  • "Also I think Amaysim works overseas for receiving SMS (please comment if you know for sure)."

I can confirm Amaysim does not work in Japan. Not even with roaming turned on. Just won't work. If you call help line, all they do is request you to reboot phone and do all that useless troubleshooting and after several hours, still won't work.

    • Amaysim worked for me for receiving SMS for free on multiple trips in Japan pre-pandemic, no problem.

      • I was in Japan in 2017. Never worked. Not even SMS. The travelling partner was also on Amaysim on a different phone, and it didn't work as well. It was basically rubbish. At that time, Japan was selling local data sim card only, no calls nor texts included. You need to sign up for a monthly plan for that. We didn't as we were there for about 3 weeks only.

        • I think a lot of this stems from routing issues. Basically, particularly when international SMS and/or roaming gets involved, if your number is on a different network to what it was originally allocated to (which is the whole point of churning/porting), I think you might run into the issues you're referring to from specific senders from specific carriers.

Years ago, I had a Vodafone number that, once churned to a Optus carrier, could not receive international SMSes from certain people that I knew were sending me SMSes. (But other people sending me SMSes from that country, different carrier, was fine.) We had to give up on communication via SMS. (They could get mine, I could not get theirs.) When I churned back to a MNVO using Vodafone, it suddenly worked again.

So I think this might not be an amaysim specific issue, but rather the Japan carrier is trying to send the SMS to the carrier your number is allocated to, and I would guess you are no longer with that carrier. Is that guess correct?
(I am referring to the original carrier that got allocated that number range when it was first issued.)

          • +1

@dealz4all: I was with amaysim for years even before going to Japan. Roaming worked fine while I travelled to Singapore many times. So, yes it is more of an issue in Japan, probably their incompatible network. Anyway, I don't use international roaming anymore as I know they mostly don't work. Buying a local sim in the destination country turns out to be the best option, cheaper and definitely more reliable.

  • +1

Does Amaysim support WiFi calling yet? Anybody, from Google - it seems to suggest, they don't

    • Just tried it and no, it doesn't have Wi-Fi calling.

      • Not sure about this plan but 365 does

  • i'm starting to love Amysims now with new phone number able to choose my own number…i need to park old number and get rid of it..

  • Every time i go to buy this plan it takes me to the Unlimited $60/12 month plan?

  • I have a $30 telstra pre paid 6 month sim, and a Boost 28 day $40 sim active. Can anyone confirm they will both be able to receive SMS overseas for 6 months once the plans expire?
Gutted I didn't keep my Optus flex $1 per day active. Lost this and also losing the ING free operator ATM withdrawals overseas! Sad times.

  • Does the $10 referral bonus working for this product? Does it work for existing login? Or has to be new user?

    • Hey, what was the answer to this?

  • Where can I buy this? Tried Coles but they don’t stock this particular plan. Thank you

    • Click the link next to the OP's name in the post.

      • Already tried that. Went to two stores listed and they don’t stock $10 payg pack.
Tried ordering online but the page requests either a new number or transferring a number which seems odd as I just want to order the sim and not activate it yet.

        • Just click on new number to get the sim, you don't have to do anything until you activate.

  • +1

Not sure if the Amaysim $10 Starter Pack can be activated on this plan, it's currently $5 @OW.

    Anyone know?

  • What's the cheapest amount to top it up after a year?

  • hopefully someone is following this thread.
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/amaysim-10…

that is the same cost but come with data. can i buy that and then activate As You Go Plan for 1 year?

    • It's the same thing. So in other words once you activate on this plan there is no data inclusion, it's pay as you go.

If you want data I wouldn't recommend this plan.

  • +1

i thought about getting 1 or 2 numbers for various reason which be on this plan…is Starter Kit still work? heard around those $30 starter kit from Woolies give you an option PAYG & 365..still working? i'm watching out for those starter kit right now…

    • I have 1 of these starter kits and will try it in about a week.

      • +1

i just tried it..got myself $14 ($35) starter kit and new number for junk aka internet…there's option able to get PAYG and $34 credit till 2024.

gonna watch out for these sims card, coles have $11($30) sim card…gonna get another number for private..

        • Do you remember if there was yearly plan options too?

          • +1

@ballistykx: there's 2 option..1 option is what ever sims card advertise and option 2 something along line of others which have list of plans and i choose PAYG.

  • +1

i was planning with dual sim phone i will put this amaysim on esim (main number) then for nano (data usage) i will get what ever sim card on promo like boost, etc change every month but just realised with PAYG there is no free local call/sms so could be issue here with not enough credit /unable to make call
hmm not sure if the saving is worth the risk. hopefully can get a year amaysim for $80ish like last year black friday

    • Their cheapest yearly plan is $170 now so I think it might be 50% off that for the Black Friday sale. I'm interested too.

      • +1

oh yes whatever 50% i take it haha.. lets hope !.
i know with dual sim setup we can end up paying zero but probably not worth the risk

  • anyone who use starter kit understand get charge need to pay thing? in invoice said sim pack starting credit $10 and under that i have bonus 38GB bonus plan thing -$35 and then total owning -$25…

  • +1

Funny how calls to some international destinations are cheaper than the standard call to Aussie numbers lol

  • So can you buy this sim at any stores and buy any amount? Or is this an online offer only?

    • I want to know this aswell.

      • You can buy any sim from a store and activate on this plan instead of the plan you bought.
If you buy from Amaysim, you have to contact them after activating on the plan you bought to swap over.

        • Thanks for that. Do you know if Coles sale amaysims?

          • @Homr: Probably, but can't confirm.

          • +1

@Homr: Amaysim $30 sim is $10 at Woolworths starting today. Saw it in the cattledog.

So this means you'll get $30 credit when activating on this plan.

            • @WatchNerd: I don't have woolies near me, only coles :(

              • @Homr: I just bought amaysim $30/28d/32Gb inclusive of the bonus data for $10 at Coles last night. Trying to figure how i can add-on this 365d plan for $10.

If it works, $20 for 365d and 32Gb data is more than I need for 12m.

                • @sirspiff: You just choose the PAYG plan when activating. It doesn't come with data, it's "pay as you go".

Don't go on this plan if you need data. See data rates in the description.

                  • @WatchNerd: I get what you're saying.
What I mean is if I have the $30/32Gb data plan active, and I buy a $10 payg plan, would that automatically cancel the $30/32Gb plan or would it keep the 32Gb (amaysim has a databank. Is that across plans?) and add that to the $10 payg plan?

                    • +1

@sirspiff: I don't think the PAYG plan has data banking, so you will lose that data.

  • can i buy buy $35 started pack and activate as PAYG?

    Ta

  • Anyone know whether these work in a 4g dialer? My home alarm calls my mobile if activated. Telstra sims work in the dialer but Vodafone sims don’t.

  • +1

Just bought one to park my number. Thanks OP

  • What happens at the end of the 365 days, does this automatically renew for $10 for another 365 days?

    • There's a period of time where you can still receive calls (I think it's 1 year actually) but you will need to top it up eventually.

The OzB way would be to port out & port back with a new sim bought on special from Coles or Woolworths etc. For example this $30 sim (expired now) for $10 activated on this plan would give you $30 credit.

    • There is an automatic top up setting online and in the app which is on by default.

      • Can anyone who has this plan verify it is automatically renews for another 365 days when the first 365 is up?

        • I checked and it doesn't look like it automatically renews. The automatic top up is for when your credit falls below a certain amount.

          • @ballistykx: Thanks for confirming - Thats not good I dont want to loose the number

            • @whey4000:

Thats not good I dont want to loose the number

Set a reminder every year to renew manually. Amaysim will also send you reminder when it is about to expire.

            • @whey4000:

Thats not good I dont want to loose the number

Like I said above there's a grace period where you can still receive calls, I think it's one year.

In other words it doesn't just cut off 12 months after your last top up. Don't forget to turn off data.

              • @WatchNerd: How can you turn off data, do you mean on my phone or is there a way to turn it off from amaysims side?

                • @whey4000: Yes on your phone settings. Don't go on this plan if you need data. See data rates in the description.
