Edit: currently cheaper at Amazon, see this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778444

If you have eBay plus, even cheaper @$38.22 with coupon PWE22 (Thanks RichardL!).

It's back, the good smart Panasonic charger, with four ordinary AA eneloops (not eneloop pros).

Not as cheap as the deal seven months ago ($36 delivered), but with how inflation has been running lately, we may never see those prices again.

If you want a charger with eneloop pro batteries, see this deal, $53.82
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/777487

Also consider buying IKEA's 2450mAh LADDA batteries, many people say they're as good as eneloop pros, but with much lower price - $12 per pack of four.

Description copied from eBay listing:

The Panasonic Eneloop Smart and Quick Charger - BQ-CC55 with 4x 2000 mAh batteries 4-position Ni-MH battery charger can quickly, and individually charge any combination of up to four AA or AAA eneloop batteries in just 3 hours (1 to 2 AA or AAA batteries can be fully charged in up to 1.5 hours).

Individual charging means you can easily and efficiently charge from 1 to 4 cells with differing levels of remaining charge. A huge time saver!

@CookieJacker31: Stenkol is a poor charger. It takes 8 hours to charge four batteries, and has poor end-of-charge detection, increasing the chances it will overcharge your batteries and damage them.

The test is fully charging four batteries, taking them out and letting them cool to room temperature, and then charging them again. Stenkol took 30 minutes to notice the batteries were already fully charged. For comparison, doing the same test, the Liitokala Lii-500 detected the batteries were fully charged in 4 minutes.

IKEA frequently make incorrect statements about the stuff they sell, because they don't appear to fact-check anything, they just re-print everything the manufacturer says.

Example: IKEA's Tjugo charger claims to have -dV/dT detection. And maybe it does, but with a woeful 0.21A charge current, it takes 10-12 hours to charge batteries. When the charge cycle takes more than 4 hours, the -dV/dT effect is so small that it's practically impossible to detect. So the Tjugo charger is likely no better than a timed 10-hour "dumb" charger.

IKEA sell good batteries, but it has been many years since they sold a good charger.

              • @Russ: Good to know. I'll stick to my other charger. I noticed the same effect when I charged batteries in both, let them cool, then switched them to other. I thought stenkol being newer might be smarter but it appears it's the other way around. One battery failed on the other charger but was showing charged on the stenkol.

  • Can this charger be used on the Ikea and the pro batteries?

    • +1

Yes, but as those batteries have higher capacity, it takes a little longer to charge them. Expect 2 hours for 1 or 2 AA batteries, and 4 hours for three or four AA batteries.

This excellent technical review has graphs showing the performance when charging several battery types, and one of them is an AA eneloop pro: https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Panasonic%20…
