  • $1600 for a 7900 XTX and Diablo 4, or $1600 for a 4080 and Diablo 4?

    • +1

I have been using AMD for awhile 6850> 470 > 570 > 6600XT. But this time, I think 4080 is better value since 16GB should be enough for 4k. You only go for 7900 XTX if you NEED more memory.

But if you are choosing between 4070ti and 7900 XT, I will pick AMD as 12 GB is bad.

    • If you're going to upgrade next generation then the 4080 is good. If you want to keep the card for 2+ years the 7900xtx will be better.

  • 4080….will hold its value better than AMD.

    • +1

i really wonder… it's pretty much guaranteed that new features from 5000 series will not be available to 4000 series cards…

      • What features are you referring to?

        • +4

$4000+ price tag, going by this round.

        • +1

Maybe all the path tracing stuff. New dedicated silicon to make that run faster

    • Yap software compatibility is a big strength Nicosia has over amd.

If one only plays game, tbh nowadays they are pretty even. But anything out side of that nvidia wins.

      So personally :
1, I use VD to play vr and it works better on nvidia
2, photogrammetry software I use that turns pic into mesh model only uses cuda
3, a voice changer software I recently been using to mess around my discord friend only uses cuda.

Ist just few examples but this might be what a normal gamer do as well. Unless I strictly play game and compare fps in a traditional sense, nvidia is a no brainer choice simply due to compatibility sake. The one area I can think of go and is build a hackintosh

  • Should I HODL?

    • I have the 4090 version of this card. Assuming this works the same, it is capable of 133% power, instead of 100% with the other cheap 4080's at this price. Surprisingly the extra power does make a difference. at 110% fps increased from 447 to 465. Still not a big deal but interesting to see

      • Hmm, one thing worries is that this card might not fit my case (I have an MSI MAG Forge 100R, the TechFast case), can't find any reliable source to confirm if this model will fit.

        • +1

You can take a scale and measure the case dimentions yourself. If it does not fit. Sell the case, and buy a different one. For how much a case costs and how much a GPU costs and knowing that they will remain large going forward. A GPU should dictate what case you should have and not the other way around.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeh, I found a photo of someone fit a Suprim X 3070 into this case on Amazon, and that model dimensions are almost identical to this Gigabyte 4080. So fingers crossed this thing will fit.

buy TCN GIFT gc to get 10% value ($160) loaded to your WW rewards.

Considering a lot of people say the 4080 is the one of the worst 40 series, this particular model has sold a ton!

I bought one a month or so ago as well, it’s huge, had to get an angle grinder out on the sag bracket… but it plays Hogwarts legacy really well :p

    • Hey what PSU connections is needed, is it 3 or 2

      • +1

3 are needed and it’s best to keep them to individual connections on your PSU.

        • Thank new PSU it is, I have noticed some PSU have a new slot of these video cards which is one cables.

Got to look into this more haha

          • @liveish: Yeah you can get a Corsair cable that only uses two connections but it has to be a newer compatible supply.

    • I think at 1400$ with a good aib this thing is sweet for sure. But if one really needs a gpu I would buy now , that few hundred will earn itself back

    • +3

There point was they were terrible price to performance at MSRP compared to previous generations.

    • The reason 4080 is selling is because 4090 is a whole 1000$ more and only required for High FPS 4K gaming. Despite 4080 being heavily cut down, it is enough for most 4K 100FPS gamers (assuming in some games you might need DLSS).

  • Anyone tried fitting this into an Alienware R10?

    • The card is 342mm and it looks like the R10 only fits up to 274mm unfortunately

  • so can i claim diablo 4 from this?

    • yes, I asked

  • This card is gimped. It needed 20GB for 4k gaming going into the future. It's fine now but It will have the same issue as the 3080 soon enough. Although if you don't care about absolute max settings you're fine. It's just.. paying 1.5-2k and having to compromise? That's cooked.

    OOS
There's still the RTX 4080 ASUS TUF for the same price

  • Can I ask for your advice? I have an RTX 3080 from HP, let's say I can sell it for $6-700, should I pay $1150 to get 4070 Ti or $1600 for 4080? My CPU is i7 10700K, and I'm very happy with it so not looking to upgrade yet. I play @4k only. Thanks.

    • I'm on 4k too and am having huge issues with my 3070 so I'm looking at this.

$/frame is about the same looking at a $1200 4070ti or this $1600 4080. I have the luxury of being able to afford this, so figure the extra vram will scale a bit better into the future.

The free D4 makes it a, better buy than a 7900xtx for $1500 too.

Getting a LOT of messages about the diablo code…

You can claim a code from the manufacturer, then use that code with NVidia to finally redeem the game code

Note Australia is under the APAC region

and yes, the process is a bit of a pain.

  • Just got my Diablo code today, submitted invoice 3 days ago.

    • Gigabyte or Asus?

      • Gigabyte. I bought it off someone for $2400 brand new, didn't think I could claim the game.
