    why only English version

I read the comments on the play store page for the app - someone said it costs more for the same order on the English app when compared to the Mandarin app. So I think this 30% discount is really to offset a built in price jack.

reminds me of some of those shady chinese restaurants I heard about who have 2 separate menu's; 1 in Chinese with regular prices and 1 in English which displays higher prices.

        • There are 3 prices.

1 - one you saw in-store (usually the cheapest)
2 - one in Chinese/English version before any discount codes
3 - standard price in Chinese/English version (highest)

You basically need to utilise the some discount codes so the price can be reduced back to a reasonable range.

      • actually it's normal for chinese marketing teams to market it this way. It's not really offsetting because the english version will always have more discounts and promotions. This also applies to promotions ran by restaurants etc. There are many reasons for this:
        - Chinese treats peers like s**t, especially ones overseas.
        - Too many chinese will jump on the deal and overall less promotional value compared to opening new markets and new customer base with english speakers.
        - I have seen restaurants give bigger percentage discount in the same promotion when displayed in english.
        - Some cases the promotion itself can't be applied to Chinese, for example if a restaurant runs a chopsticks competition… Chances are their marketing material for this promotion will solely be in English.
