Want Want Senbei Rice Crackers 520g $3.50 (Usually $6.45) @ Coles

1510

Cheapest unit price I've ever seen for these crackers, Coles says "Was" price is $14, Woolworths are usually $10 for 500gm, however Amazon have these usually for $6.45 so have put that in the title. Cheapest ever on Amazon was $4.98 in May 2021.

Not noted as an Online Only special, so should be able to get this same price in store.

Store availability should be available to be checked by setting your local store location on the Coles website. If it's OOS, it should show "Currently Unavailable". Stock is a bit patchy in QLD and WA, but otherwise seems relatively available nationwide.

Delicious, can easily demolish half of the whole pack in a single sitting (the fact that they only include 2 crackers per single pack is criminal). The MSG doesn't hurt either!

Apparently the Amazon ones are Bad Data flavoured. (˚~˚ )

    • This small package is quite close in price actually. But the large one is way too overpriced at Amazon.

  • +3

Certainly delicious and unexpectedly high amount of calories.

  • It says usually $14, like really? I thought they were like $7-$9.

    • Its sometimes $22-23 on amazon, lol. Usually about $8-9 at asian supermarkets around me these days.

  • Great price. Even cheaper than in China

  • +1

    This is really addictive.

  • I prefer the round snow flake ones. Or the round seaweed version!

Don't try the 'rice' one…they taste like baby crackers.

    • +1

While prefer them too I still like these and at that price I'm definitely getting on

  • just bought from amazon earlier today :(

    • You can always refund them

  • Country of Origin: China

    I thought it's from Taiwan?

    • -3

yes it is definately a Taiwanese brand, and company from Yilan, these days they do have chinese subsidiaries so i wouldnt be suprised if they are actually manufactured in China.

Fun Fact: They have faced multiple accusations of being overly friendly to the CCP which give these crackers a foul taste that no amount of MSG can cover.

      • +1

So you are saying CCP is the new substitute for MSG?

        • +1

haha :) no, despite MSG making these crackers delicious, i'm very in favour of an independant taiwan and its recognition as a country. So want want being taiwanese is a little treacherous siding with the CCP and despite the yummy crackers, i cant swallow them. its not like there are not many asian snacks to chose from some indonesian ones are pretty good

    • +4

This brand is from Taiwan but products might be made in China as the company has hundreds of factories there(only 2 in Taiwan). It had a few scandals in food production from different products no matter where it is made. I have to say good luck to the guys who's already addicted to these snacks then…

You do know Republic of China aka Taiwan?

  • +5

    MSG FTW

  • I’ve been on the lookout for the cookies they gave at massage spas with tea. Does anyone know? Small rectangular ones, about 4-5 in a small plastic packaging, smell a bit like butter/ cheese but taste delicious!

    • i think its a different variant of these ones, maybe the one that looks a bit like a ritz cracker

(i didnt expect to be so downvoted but i love independant taiwan)

    • I do not know what you refer to but I do not think this is what you have had because it does not taste like butter/cheese

    • Want Want Rice Crackers Cheese

      • Just checked and these are longer/ elongated and oval. Those were smaller and rectangular, with sharp edges not round.

        • I know what you're saying, but it's not sold in Australia. Chinese is KAZICUI.

        • 旺旺卡兹脆

    • maybe try to browse KFL stores, i think they sold some chinese crackers individual packs, and the crackers are very thins

I can only think of, either chinese small crackers packs, lots of brands… or otherwise malaysian butter cracker by Julie's, but size may be bigger

I'm flying in September, can't wait to show my daughter whom is finally old enough to appreciate all the fine snacks! About time she stops with the Korean stuff. ;)

@hippo2s: That’s awesome man I’m doing Iceland this year so Taiwan will have to wait…been years since I’ve gone back so plans Taiwan-Japan next year.

If you get chance there’s Eiles Bistro in 淡水 my mate’s family restaurant his bro trained in Michelin Star restaurants overseas before going back to work as head chef food’s so good check it out if you get the chance.

            • @basketballfreak6: cool, great will keep that in mind. I have a day to spend in Taipei after I land but heading south to see family which is where I will spend most of my time.

              • @hippo2s: If you get the chance in Taipei hit up Lady M or at least get a takeaway, OG crepe cake and will shit on any crepe cake you have in Australia (their gateau cakes pretty great too I got a gateau cake and crepe cake instead of a coffee and cake to make the dine in minimum spend lmao last time I was there lmao).

                • @basketballfreak6: donno man…I am looking forward to trying all the local stuff that I can't get in oz. Bistro and crepes I can get here.

Missing things like 碗焿, 新竹肉圓,蝦仁肉圓, heck even a single 雞排便當!

                  • @hippo2s: I know what you mean…Lady M is another level though ;)

But I am someone that eats stupid amounts of food so I have no problem fitting in multiple feeds a day ahaha (if you saw the list of places I got through in my last trip up Melbourne you’d either be really disgusted or really impressed lol).

      • +2

Stop it right now or I will ask the whole Taiwanese community to neg you for inciting severe nostalgia.

However, 黑松沙士, 孔雀香酥, 科學麵, 77乳加, 義美小泡芙 you can all get in Oz
雪魚香絲 does exist but just more difficult to get.
Only certain Taiwanese owned groceries in Brisbane seems to have stock at times. I think I saw it in Sydney ages ago briefly (when a family friend owned a Taiwanese grocery).

      • -3

Honestly I'm telling the truth no political influences here

        • -1

Nah that's your own version of twisted truth hanjian. Dun fill others with your sinophobic nonsense.

          • @Jared17: Sinophobic you mean fake news and party propaganda coming from you

        • I shall test and revert back to you in September…

    • Lol this sinophobic retard is back again. Go back to your self loathing hole

      • This party mouth is back again. Go back to China. Don’t come to Australia and trump the Chinese way of living and party ideology. You love it stay there. The constant need to kiss the party’s ass when some negative comment is made about China.

  • A friend told me these want want rice crackers are used in funeral ceremonies in Taiwan. Once the party is over piles of want want crackers are sold very cheaply to those who don't mind / not superstitious. Some joke that they were shipped here lol

    • oh they are used in all sorts of ceremonies… as offerings to gods, dieties,…and other forms of spirits…but also in celebrations too. I doubt these actual ones were…they sell them by the truck load!

    • Taiwan funerals are wild apparently, inclusive of strippers.

Love these things. Its like crack to me. Tell myself ill only have 2 packets, eat about 20

and lick the slightly sweet yet salty powder off your fingers afterwards. heaven.

  • How is Want Want compared to Sakata crackers?

    • +1

try it…can buy both at Coles. but you are comparing a tried and time tested snack for millions in many Asian countries…sold for decades, not to mention how old senbei as a snack is originating from Japan. To a local …western immitation of a rice cracker.

      need I explain more?

      • If you want goood western rice crackers, I find Peckish fancy is pretty good. Currently on halfie at woolies but they only stock 3 of the flavs (Coles have more variants), tho generally the Honey Soy one is the best in general so that’s all that matters.

  • It's so good you 'want' it twice…

    • technically it's wan-wan. which translates most closely to 'prosperous-prosperous'. But that's great for the business, not so good for marketing.

  • Thanks OP ! got 2
