1/2 Price - Vitasoy Almond Milky 1L - $1.50 @ Woolworths

240

Finally on sale and I can stock up! And it's the Milky version, not the Milk!

Not $1.35 like some of the previous deals but still pretty good, and I doubt it'll ever be that low again anyway. My local metro had it scanning at $2.65 but standard stores and online have it at $1.50.

    not the Milk!

    It never was milk.
    It is almond juice.

    • I know, but I can't possibly put 'Juice' in the title can I!

      milk

      noun
      - the white juice of certain plants. "coconut milk"
      - a creamy-textured liquid with a particular ingredient or use. "cleansing milk"

      Of milk-like plant juices or saps from c. 1200. (~ 800 years)

Middle English milk, from Old English meoluc (West Saxon), milc (Anglian), from Proto-Germanic *meluk- "milk" (source also of Old Norse mjolk, Old Frisian melok, Old Saxon miluk, Dutch melk, Old High German miluh, German Milch, Gothic miluks), from *melk- "to milk," from PIE root *melg- "to wipe, to rub off," also "to stroke; to milk".

        fakenews

        noun
an opaque white fluid rich in fat and protein, secreted by female mammals for the nourishment of their young.
"a healthy mother will produce enough milk for her baby"

        • LOL, right at the top of that page you've provided:

This article is about the fluid produced by the mammary glands of mammals. For other uses of the word, see Milk (disambiguation).

But what I post isn't "fake", it's fact. We've been referring to milks from plants as milks for about 800 years, and the etymology of milk is from "melg-" which means "to rub". Milk, in the mammalian sense, is itself an appropriation of another word; a movement, not a drinkable liquid at all.

  • Serious question, whats the difference between 'milky' and the regular 'milk'
I think I've always purchased Milk version which I use in overnight oats, then chug it on the weekend when I realize I have over 1/3 left lol.

I've tried steaming it before using my coffee machine and it taste awful. Is the 'milky' suppose to be better for this?

    • Slightly better for steaming but will never work with coffee. You need the barista version to get a good consistency.

      • Fair enough, yeah I typically use Milk labs or whatever is cheap for Coffee

The way I find it, there's a creamier mouth-feel and taste, so on a spectrum from water to milk, it's closer to the milk. It's the best out there at this price point, if you can't/don't want to drink normal milk but still want the texture.
I haven't tried steaming or frothing it, but partner loves this in the protein shakes

    • +2

Agree with @sakurakiks above - the "milky" variant has a creamier mouthfeel and closer to cow's milk. Downside is it has a tiny bit of added sugar (1% I think?).

  • +2

I don't know what other differences there might be nutritionally but the milky tastes far superior to most others. It's actually pretty good..
