i bought the game last week for 79 :( rip

    • +1

But JB and Big W had it for $74 on launch day. So you could pm even at EB games

      • I had a gift card for eB games from a mate so I didn’t pay that much shame they didn’t have a bonus

        • You can still price match with gift card at EB

  • Do all the standard copies come with the poster?

    • +3

      Not with mine

    • +3

      Nope

    • +18

Mine came with some shitty coin that I sold on eBay for $50

      • +4

Seriously, $50? I'm going to have to get that back off the kids..

  • Thanks, I was waiting for the price to be on par with the last release

  • Your move Amazon.

    • Amazon wont match a coupon deal

    • thank you!

    • +10 Slash?

    • thanks, price went up slightly but all good

This game makes BotW looks like a simple beta version! It's such an amazing game (perhaps even the GOAT) and I'd pay $400 for it if that's what it cost. $66 is almost robbery, it's such good value!

    • +5

Feels like its an industrial revolution in Hyrule right now lol

    • +3

should I get this even without having played BOTW? The same deal applies to BOTW so I could alternatively buy that first

      • +1

you could still play this without having to play BOTW, its a new story with just a little reference to BOTW

      • +6

You could, but if you're not in a rush to play it, you might not want to.
I feel like you'd enjoy the experience more if you played BOTW and then TOTK, mostly because you'd get more gaming time.

If you did BOTW after TOTK, you'd miss some of the quality of life improvements in the newer title.

        • damn i decided on picking up BOTW as it shared the same deal but now its out of stock

      • +3

I'd play BoTW first to learn the mechanics and the map and general gameplay. TotK might be a but overwhelming if you've not done so.

      • +2

There's a lot of fun to be had seeing what they've done to the world you discovered in BOTW, I would play that first if you have enough hours in your life :)

      • +6

Quite the interesting bias you're revealing there.

Clearly the OP's intended point was that so many QOL improvements and new ways to interact with the world was added to TotK, that BotW feels like a beta in comparison because the bar was raised so much higher.

Treating it as a statement that BotW was literally an unfinished beta is entirely on you.

Meanwhile, the opinion that Majora's Mask was superior to OoT is pretty common (even if not universal), and that was literally made with reused assets using the same engine with less than 2 years of development time.

        • Gameplay/story of MM was totally different though. It flipped the way you played the game on the head with the 3 day mechanic. It did look the same which is ok. Having said that I didn't enjoy MM

TotK I haven't played yet but it looks like botw + QoL + sky + cave areas.

My point was how was botw GOAT, when people are actually advising to just skip it and play TotK. Just shows it doesn't stand alone by itself.

          • @Circly:

My point was how was botw GOAT, when people are actually advising to just skip it and play TotK. Just shows it doesn't stand alone by itself.

Virtually every single "you can skip BotW" comment I've seen is some flavour of "I couldn't get into BotW, but I'm loving every second of TotK so far!"

That's not a "I say BotW is the GOAT, but it can't really stand alone by itself". Once again, it's just that TotK has raised the bar even higher than BotW.

    • +1

I'd pay $400 for it if that's what it cost. $66 is almost robbery, it's such good value!

Hand in your OzBargain card and get out of here

If anyone is an Everyday Extras member, you can use your 10% off BIG W shop + stack with this Big W Everyday Rewards offer to get it for around $61 (or cheaper if you value Qantas points at more than 1c per point). Might be able to also stack with Cashrewards/Shopback but you need to use a coupon to get the 10% discount for Big W. Also if you are a Commbank customer, you can further stack with this CBA Cashback offer to get the game for $51.

    • +1

This guy knows how to Ozbargain!

    • Cashbacks don't work on BigW for games do they?

      • Not sure which cashback you are referring to but I succesfully purchased the game using the CBA cashback offer + 10% Big W shop + Everyday Rewards offer (albeit not the one that is currently being run, but another similar one)

    • Is it only me or the 10% off everyday extra promo code is not reflecting in the final price at checkout..

      Still shows $79, anyone?

      • It worked for me … make sure you're using the BIG W promo code and not the woolies one

It's a fine open world game, but like BOTW, it's not a Zelda game.

Zelda is: dungeon, mini boss, item, boss

This is play around with minecraft mechanics and do dungeon-lite with breakable weapons (meaning no items) that can be finished without effort or thought in under 10 minutes each. All the dungeons look the same and are designed the same (activate 5 switches).

Dungeons in old Zelda games were 45-60 minutes long and all complex in different ways. Zelda games peaked with Twilight Princess. Legend of Minecraft isn't Zelda.

    • I don't disagree with you.

I like this new Zelda, but I also liked old Zelda.

I miss the traditional dungeons. I can see where they went with this one (dungeon, item (sage ability), boss). They did take a step towards better blending old and new in this one (the divine beasts in BOTW were not dungeons, and their bosses entirely forgettable), so I'm hoping the next iteration will perfect that.

      • the sage ability is more akin to a magic ability than an item. it also comes with the annoyance of 4 blue characters running around obscuring the screen.

        • It is, yeah. But I can see it's kind of a stand-in or evolution of a dungeon item in terms of function within it's dungeon and timing of getting it.

      • +1

I'm in the same boat; I love old Zelda but TOTK feels more digestible. There were many a time when the temples in OOT/MM/TP would be so time-consuming and vast and I just wouldn't be able to actually remember where I needed to go to get the thing, etcetc. and you get booted to the beginning of the temple when you leave or load, and I'd have no idea which switches I activated. I'd end up getting frustrated and just looking up the solution. Maybe I was just younger and didn't have very good critical thinking skills.

    • I hope they still do some classic Zelda format games. I get that open worlds are very popular but BOTW felt like it was wasting my time at every turn. Even when I did attempt to engage in exploration as it seemingly wanted me to, given its vast (and rather empty, to be frank) world, it got in the way with the stamina system and constant clumsy inventory management due to limited use weapons and an emphasis on cooking.

There are cool ideas in there for sure but it didn't come together as an enjoyable whole, IMO. The shrines almost felt like an afterthought to me, as though they remembered they were making a Zelda game and set a separate team to designing some isolated puzzle areas. It made me feel like I was just ticking off activities from the Assassin's Creed map.

  • Damn I've already used ebay plus before. Will I have any issues making a new account with the same details?

  • +3

I bought the Switch OLED bundle with the game/poster for $501.50 and $20 shopback cashback.

Was waiting so long for this!

    • Is the poster included in the bundle? Have you had your shopback tracked?

      • No poster and shopback not tracked yet :(

  • +3

Looks like they've removed the poster

  • +1

i bought BOTW 2 years ago and only just started to play it, if I finish it, I'll pick this up when its $55

    • +4

      I don't even think BOTW has hit $55 yet…

      • +1

Has been $50 a number of times. Just ended to be quick and on ozbargain at the time lol

        • +4

Does a tree falling in the woods make a sound if not posted on ozb?

          • +1

@drprox: i got it for around $50 - could have even been less from memory

      • Right now BOTW + Links Awakening is $107 on ebay for the pair. That is less than $55 =)

  • +1

Where would you buy any kind of good value totk poster separately? Would love a couple

  • +1

Damn now there's a deal, bought finally with the cashback to boot

  • +1

I would argue it's absolutely essential to play BOTW before TOTK

    • -1

      That's a completely stupid reason to say it's essential….

Have said this before, I hated BOTW. Tried to play it 3 times and never understood what people loved about it, I can't put TOTK down.

      • +3

All good mate, I was making a joke

      • You missed the joke by far…

  • +2

I Love this game, would love to play all day forever. The new mechanics are awesome, world is better and an even better experience than BOTW. If you liked BOTW you will love this, but if you didn't still give this a shot, you might be surprised.

I am just glad that nintendo were able to develop a game that lived up to its hype!

  • +1

I think it's kind of amazing that the game runs 50-60fps emulated on a (good) PC but only 20-30fps on the console (switch) it was built for

    • +13

Well the Switch is using like 10 year old specs its a miracle that the game even runs at 30 fps considering how massive it is plus all the physics, etc.

    • +1

I think it's amazing it doesn't already run twice as good as that on emulators.

    • +2

Why is that amazing when the switch is a 10year old handheld device and youre comparing it to a good and presumably modern PC?

      • +2

Because emulation is hard. The age of the device doesn't automatically mean it's going to be trivial to emulate. Those working on the emulators are doing some damn good work.

        • +1

Fair call. I know nothing about emulation and just assumed you'd port it over. I'll have to look into how games are emulated

          • @ninnypoop: You should look into the Mister FPGA project too, fascinating stuff!

  • +6

Combine with topcashback offer for bonus $10 off. Check out their ozbargain page. It stacks with the 22% off code

  • -1

Just created an eBay plus account to take advantage of this offer and even checked out with PayPal in 4..

Minutes later received an email saying "Bid Cancellation Notice" and then "Your account has been suspended "

I'm just so so confused. Anyone?

  • +1

should I get eBay plus or hope for another deal?

  • Damn, out for delivery already in Brisbane

  • +2

i received mine today at 8:30am after ordering yesterday after midday; crazy quick delivery!

    • +1

yeah delivery was crazy fast, I'm regional VIC too!

  • 300 sold in 24 hours how are they going to fulfill

  • Mine arrived with the poster today and I ordered after they were all gone, yay!

  • +1

Mine arrived without poster, even though I ordered when they had poster in the title and description. Disappointing :(

  • I didn't receive the poster :( the game case is unsealed and has little tabs that would hold the poster and/or instruction booklet.

It also looks like I have a German copy. It says 'frei ab 12 Jahre' on my game cartridge.

Not sure if I should return? I really wanted the unsealed and don't know if I like having the German copy.

    • Picture shows Aussie version. So it's fair to not be happy about it.

If you aren't going to play anytime soon then probably no harm to return it (assuming free return). I'm sure the game will be on discount again.

    • I received my poster separately in the packing.

I don't think we got a local cartridge release for this game. If you buy another copy from somewhere else it'll probably say the same thing on the game cart.

    • First party Nintendo games in Australia aren't sealed. We also often get the EU cartridge as they are PAL region as well.

  • My game was nit wrapped in plastic packaging. No booklet or anything inside the case. Looks like german version as well.
