  • Why don't any of those websites state the weight of the bike?

    • I enquired and it’s 24kg.

      • That's why. It's more profitable to omit this information rather than give people to birch about

  • +1

This bike looks a lot better specs wise than the one posted yesterday.
    Unfortunately, $200 shipping to WA(!)

    • +1

It's not that expensive considering the distance, size and weight. I was shipping my electric skateboard to 200kms in Victoria and paid relatively the same

  • If it was Bafang wouldn't they say so? They do for their other bikes and they are branded on the motor.

  • Really Good price for a Mid-Drive E-Bike !. .. Shame they don't have one in a frame size suitable for me (XL)
The Mid-Drive bikes are much better than hub drive, especially of you live in a hilly area.
Also Bafang make decent Ebike motors etc

    • -1

Only if you live in hilly area. If you live in a flat area, powerful motor wheel is better as you don't need to switch gears and maintain them frequently.

  • Aside from the superior element of the mid-drive, how would the rest of this kit compare to the NCM Moscow Plus? Cheers.

    • +2

      Here's one point of comparison:
      Shimano Deore parts = Good
      Shimano Altus parts = Cheap

I find cheap Shimano is not only less smooth in its function when well maintained, but also rusts more easily and needs more maintenance.

      • Meh, Altus is OK at first at least, and as long as it has a cassette (not freewheel) you can upgrade shifter and derailleur for ~ $100.
I'd be more worried about motor, battery and forks.

    • +1

Hub drive bike owner here, although mine is a bit more potent than the nsw legal mid-drives: what makes you think mid drive is superior?

if you bust a chain or lose drive, you have to walk it home. hub drive at least can still get you moving.

      • +1

For an ebike to be road legal it needs to be pedal assist. So if you bust a chain on a hub drive, there is no more pedal assist, and you're not going anywhere. Carrying a spare quick link will fix your chain and get you moving again.

Mid drive bikes are better for everything compared to pedal assist hub drive, expect for possibly riding around places with no hills.

        • Ebikes are being blitzed by my local police.
Haven't seen one being ridden by teenagers at high speed for weeks.

        • -1

without pedal-assist functionality (my bike is not pedal assist) whats the benefit then?

Packaging on the mid drives can be better i guess, but its either a hub on the wheel or a motor under the frame. pros and cons to both.

running the motor thru the gearing i suppose helps out in hilly areas, my common routes are maybe 20m elevation changes. either way - my bike doesnt struggle on hills with or without me pedaling + throttle. only the steepest hills around really give it any grief. 48V battery, 45kmh top speed, flat ground full throttle and pedaling in top gear. 1kW motor i think? its a parts-bin bike.

for the record im pedaling most of the time I ride, feels weird not to.

          • @Laserface: The throttle and 1kw motor both make your bike illegal to ride anywhere but on private land.

The $274 wheel, hub motor and speed controller on the bike above will be terrible with just 36v 250w 55Nm of power/torque. Even though the Moscow has a large battery capacity, everything else is inferior compared to the Avant x6 mid drive.

Road legal rear hub motors are really only good for commuting in flat areas, or on lightweight road bikes to help less fit riders keep up with their mates on hilly rides.

            • @frugalferret: My bike is definitely illegal and i make no claim it isnt, i was just curious as to the pro/cons of mid drive. thanks for explaining.

    • +1

Good question. If the mid-drive has a torque-sensor, it will be much better for off-road.
I'd prefer the 1x10 on this. You don't need a triple on an e-bike.
Has lights and rack included - very euro.

The only question is the parts quality, e.g. battery, forks.

    • +1

Sure. This bike weighs 24kg while NCM Moscow Plus is 28/29kg.

So if you like to lug an incredibly heavy bike and pay more for the privilege, go for NCM.

  • Has anyone found info on sizing? The size chart on the website isn't showing up for me.

  • The Moscow has an enormous 16Ah/768Wh 48w battery hence the weight gain.
Forks are probably Suntour XC32 which have been around for donkey years and common, reliable OEM coil shock absorber.

    Medium 17" frame generally suits 168-178cm / 5'6"-5'10" rider.

    • Thoughts on this for comparable specs for comparable price?
      Benelli Mantus
      https://shop.panmi.com.au/products/benelli-mountain-ebike-mt…

    • Thing is, how much of that is speed limited to 25 km/ph anyhow?

If you were designing a bike, you'd surely know that the inconvenience of 5 extra kilos is massive compared to the net benefit of being able to ride more KMs.

FWIW most of the NCMs are absolute boats, heavy AF 25kg minimum bikes. There's a reason they're sold cheaply.

  • +1

Benelli is now a Chinese manufacturer. The photos and specifications are contradictory… 10 speed or 11 speed ? No deraillieur information, nor motor detail or brakes. No lights in photos ? No rack. Slightly larger battery and only 3 x assistance levels.

One photo shows 3 chain wheels and another cable disc brakes ? A one size fits all bike ?

When you can't get your description, photos and specifications aligned, doesn't inspire too much confidence. Plus extra $180.

Tbh it looks like most of this applies to the bike of this post as well
      - Chinese
      - motor unclear ( reported to be bafang despite specs sheet)
      - same shimano gear system listed (I grant you the photos of the Benelli are odd)

There is a version with the rack and lights, which is actually cheaper at $1500 from Costco

  • Wanted this so bad.. was dead set on it.. but I'm to tall and they dont have another size

I do find it pretty funny that they say on their page they design their bikes in Melbourne but these are XDS rebadges designed and built in China.

  • Appears XDS only make a small 15" (155-170cm) and medium 17" frame (170-185cm) according to their Chinese site specifications. If you are going to buy a bike, buy it from a proper bicycle retailer. The Benelli seller sells everything from TV's to vacuum cleaners so I would not expect much support let alone understanding of anything about bicycles.

Having bought one bike online in a box, it was a disaster from start to finish, so better if you can see and ride it first. Local bike shops are more expensive but you will get a better bike and better assembly and fitting, plus you can take it back for tweaking or repairs and that's what you pay for.

Some better photos here of the XDS 600 sold in China from ¥6500 to ¥9980 (AUD 1415 - 2170)

  • Price reduced another $100 today !

  • Can anyone who has purchased confirm the bafang motor and any other specs? The inconsistencies in description make it difficult to decide.

  • I quizzed Progear support on Tektro brake model and took 2 days to respond, they were fairly prompt. Also try XDS who make them, they could be more technically inclined.
