  • 4GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 4GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200, dual-channel capable

but to get dual channel max we can have is 8GB, am i right? because we need to match the one soldered

    • yes

    • dual channel doesnt really make a difference

      • Yes, even difference RAM speed, no difference.

If you replace the 4GB Stick with a 8/16GB you will have 8GB running in dual channel and the remaining Majigabytes in single.

        Spot on,

What is the flex mode in RAM?

"Flex mode means that you'll get dual channel operation until you exceed the dual channel capacity, so in this case, beyond 32GB, it'll dip into the final stick and that stick will be running in single channel. In theory, flex mode gives you the best of both worlds"

The more stuff you run, the slower your system gets.

      • So? You wont notice a difference

I see an AC port - does anyone know if we can use the usb c to charge?

    • +1

      No usb - c charging

      • If I use the usb c through a docking station, and that docking station is connected to 2 screens.

Do i still need to plug in ac adaptor directly to the laptop?

        • No USB C PD means no display im guessing.

          • +1

@mrvaluepack: Not necessarily. Lots of laptops don't have PD but do display. No way to know unless they list it either way in the specs. It's very annoying, and stupid.

        • The USB-C port on this is data only, no video or power input.

  • Is there any way to know/check with a laptop like this whether it can output to a monitor in 4k?
I’m frustrated with my otherwise great MacBook that it can’t play Intel based games even with rosetta. I pulled out the old windows laptop, which works, but it’sa bit hard going back to 1080p output to my monitor. The highest res in the laptop itself is around 720p.

The Lenovo site says this laptop has HDMI 1.4b which can do 4K but only at 30Hz which isn’t going to be fun for games. For the same money you might be better off with a used laptop that has higher specs?

      • Great thanks.

  • How's the screen on these?

Was thinking of getting one for parents that use it primarily for web surfing and YouTube.

    (occasional word/excel stuff)

    • +1

Looking at the specs, the screen seems to be a bit of a weak spot on this. At least it's FHD, but the low brightness figure and TN technology used don't promise much. I guess that is to be expected at this price point though.

      • Thanks mate, will need to think about it then haha

    • Imo will be no issues for that use case.

Indoor use this screen will be fine

      • "Indoor use this screen will be fine"

If you've tried a bad screen, you would never again want a bad screen. Viewing angles, colours and contrast… Really add up to your experience.

I have the Ryzen 5 version of this, the TN screen is… not great.

You have to look at it almost exactly dead on to get a good view, the colours are muddy and it's not the brightest screen around.

  • wow , great price!! id buy if i didnt already have a lenovo from 1 year ago

good for a dedicated crypto laptop?

you are a legend buddy! I was just looking at this to upgrade my mum's 6 year old laptop yesterday and saw your post. Ordered 1 thank you:)

    Thanks ChatGPT

  • Good deal. Not sure if this has usb-c charger. Looking for budget laptop with type c charging port if available.

  • Was gonna jump to this to upgrade my laptop…

but it doesn't look too different from my i5 7th gen from 5 years ago (2nd hand), which still runs fine.

    • depends…
      https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-5300U-vs-I…

if you want games, the built in iGPU may be significanlty faster than whatever you have now
if you're in productivity, then it'll be a little faster

but, really, if you're happy with what you have……….
You're better off adding more memory to your existing laptop and putting in a modern / faster SSD

      • Good points. Mine is fast enough and I can't expand it anyway.

        I guess I"m just stuck with this…
