HIS Radeon HD7950 3GB IceQ Turbo $299.00 +Shipping at PC CASE GEAR

470

Was browsing through PCCG website and saw this promotion on the front page.

"Promotional special - $90 off, normally $389, while stocks last!"

Compared the prices on Statice and cheapest I found available in Australia is $352

Quite a good bargain for a Radeon HD7950 under 300 bucks.

The HIS Radeon HD7950 IceQ Turbo is built on AMD's new 28nm process, features an overclocked 900MHz core clock speed, 3072MB of GDDR5 memory running at 5.0GHz (effective) through a 384bit bus, PCI Express 3.0 interface, 1x Dual-Link DVI-I, 1x HDMI and 2x mini DisplayPort connectors. Backed by a 2 year warranty.

    Excellent price!

Definitely needed a price drop to compete with the GTX 660

    • edit: nvm

Argh! I want this so bad for Sleeping Dogs to upgrade from my 4890 :( If it was $199 I'd buy it at the drop of a hat but that extra $100 irks me even though its an incredible deal

    • +3

I am still on a 4890! Its a solid card. OC it and you may be able to survive with it for another year.

    • If you get Sleeping Dogs at "Mates Rates" from SKIDROW/Reloaded/Maxspeed then your hardware costs won't irk you so much

      • +1

Yeah we all should pirate the game, just to make sure they stop releasing updates and they never make a sequel.

This comment needs to be blasted.

  • +2

    Pre order only?

    • ETA 21/8/12 — Anyone know how accurate they usually are?

      • Usually very. Many preorders have actually arrived early, based on my own experiences.

  • +2

If only they were going a GTX670 for the same price … :)

I remember reading a short time ago that AMD had dropped the prices on the 7xxx chips so that's probably filtering through now.

    • +4

Price drop on 7950 was from $449 to $349, which went through a couple of months ago. This is a bargain especially comparing to the new 660ti

  • How much better is this compared to a GTX275?

  • +7

    O M G! I just bought my 7850 OC for $269 !!!

:( This just breaks my heart and my balls..

    • +3

You think thats bad, I bought a 7870 OC for $319 just two days ago… Arggh what crap timing :'(

      • 6950 for $229 a year ago at PCCG. Come at me bro.

A year later I can't feel bad about new prices hahahaa

    • Last week I spent $352 on "The cheapest HD7950"

A new model HD 7950 should be available imminently, for around US$329, so all old / original 7950 models should be expected to soon selling for around this price.

    • +3

Seems only to be a simple OC which everyone can do it themselves?

    • Also, this one default clock is 900mhz which higher than the upcoming new 7950

  • +2

If you look around you'll be able to find a BIOS to flash existing 7950s to the new clocks, extra free performance and features from AMD if you have one or are considering one of these. No guarantee of course but worth a look.

    • Any idea if this one can be flashed?

    • +1

Im pretty sure the flashing only added the voltage settings of the 7970 which brought unecessary increase in power consumption and heat. You can simply overclock this to 7970 speeds.

      • Ok thanks, I'm not an expert but am pretty keen on this given the price. I might commit to this assuming no-one talks me out of it - I'm still using a Radeon 5700 :(

        • This is definitely a good buy. The new pricing makes it a better value than the new 660 ti.

      • I think he was referring to the new "Boosted" edition 7950, not the 7970

  • +2

the cooling doesnt look all that great. Can someone speak from experience? Never used a HIS card before.

    • i used to have the HIS 5870, worked great for about 3 years, then the bearing in the fan got loose and started making a rattling noise.

      • Thanks for that. I read reviews on Amazon and it seems to be solid enough. I swore off all cards except for Asus, Gigabyte and MSI after I had a terrible run trying to get away with a cheaper brand card.

The only thing is knowing how touchy video cards are I am wary of ordering online. I'll give it a go I suppose.

  • Can anyone recommend a good power supply for this card? I was looking to get one at the same time from pccasegear but their combined postage sucks, it put the postage up from $13 to $27 when I added both to the cart. It was actually cheaper to buy them both separately. Cheers

according to the HIS site http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-693.shtml#specificatio… Needs 500w or greater, but myself having done lots of research on sites like whirlpool and other graphics card specific sites knows that these are just estimations for the card to be run completely safely for his to cover their a**e. So it could be run on something lower potentially, but to be safe their estimates are a good place to start.

Note that when you see PSU's that say high power and gaming psu etc. these are intended for running dual or triple gfx cards in SLI or xfire and it doesnt improve the performance of the card the more power it has, cheaper/less powerful ones are sufficient BUT the psu is imo the most important part of any pc, so never get a crap cheapo one as ive had crap ones die on me and damage my pc. so spend some time researching a good one. msg me if you want any more info, would be happy to help.

    • Antec TruePower 550W

    • Thanks guys, I just bought a Antec VP550P 550W Power Supply. Should be ok?

  • +5

For PSU, I recommend the Corsair TX/HX/AX series, Seasonic and Antec High Current Gamer series.

    • +1

Yes, because all 3 of those brands (not every single psu in their range though) are made by seasonic. Seasonic is arguably one the best psu makers in the world. Think corsair may make their own now though off the top of my head (dont quote me).

maybe ill just post this - http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/PSU_Recommendations

  • you can look at 660ti from EVGA,this is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008S15XA0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?…

    • This OC 7950 card is faster than 670 at high res, leaving alone 660ti

  • +3

This is an exceptionally good price. Especially with AMDs new HD7950 Boost Bios!

  • Overkill for an i7 2600I?

    • No, i7 works better with high lifting GPUs.

      • just realised its too long for my case.. cbf getting a new case..

any recommendations on a card that is under 25cm long?

  • Voda dupe fail

If they have this price for Christma or next year i will get one … dont even have a desktop atm

    • +4

Thats wonderful, please tell us more about your life story.

      • whatever dude

    • +2

There's a $599 desktop that was posted in the last few days. Maybe you should get that first.

  • Why are they still accepting orders and how the hell do they still have stock?
I'm guessing there will be a help of cancelled orders.

  • +3

why not? i'm sure there aren't that many people out there looking for 300$ graphics card

  • +3

Just checked the website and it appears to be out of stock. Ozbargained perhaps?

  • DAMN!! missed it - curse you weekend specials….

  • they took the page down, smell a price error instance - they might put their order price from "his" on the website

  • damn, had to wait till payday. bugger.

  • EDIT- Don't worry.

  • My order got cancelled :(. Dammit! This would've been perfect for my new system! Anyone wanna sell theirs? :)

    • Mine get cancelled too, and Im sure I ordered quite early. They said coz they received my payment later than others, but there no info about importance of payment speed, I mean what the hell that is, if you dont have enough stock, why not just mark the card sold out when it's sold out?

  • Using it now!
But apparently a few of these cards are going to get pricecuts anyway: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6175/amd-radeon-hd-7800-series…

  • +1

I paid with direct debit and I was getting a little worried that my order would be canceled because the money only cleared on tuesday and PCCG's policy is- "Please note that stock is not allocated to your order until payment has cleared. Direct deposit transfers can take up to 48 hours to clear into our account."

But on tuesday I got an email saying "HIS Radeon HD7950 3GB IceQTurbo is due to arrive at our warehouse on 22-08-2012.". So I'm happy. It was sent yesterday and I got it today ^_^
