Cashing out Amazon Gift Card Balance ?

Hi guys I'm looking for a way to cash out Amazon giftcard balance. The GC has already been redeemed on the account and I want it out with the less financial loss possible, sort of damage control.

Only way I see so far is to buy a good and resell it on Gumtree, the ocean of lowballers. Any idea ?

It's apparently impossible to buy another giftcard with giftcard balance and is against Amazon's ToS

How much are we talking? Even if you just buy toilet paper or something you will always need.

just a couple hundreds that I would rather have as cash than toilet paper. Can still buy a truck load of toilet paper and add a -50% deal on Ozbargain tho

It is not possible to purchase an Amazon gift card or OnlyONE Visa gift card on Amazon using your Amazon gift card balance.

It should be possible to purchase other specialty (i.e. third-party) gift cards on Amazon using your Amazon gift card balance, including:

    • Apple
    • Myer
    • Ultimate - which can be redeemed at a laundry list of retailers, including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and The Good Guys.
    • Restaurant Choice - which can be redeemed at merchants using the merchant category code for bars and restaurants (including fast food).
    • Netflix
    • Uber / Uber Eats
    • Roblox

Maybe you will find a specialty gift card that you can use towards something you were already going to purchase off Amazon?

Amazon have blocked the purchase of third-party gift cards using Amazon credit in the past.
There were quite a few users in this thread who managed to purchase 1 AirBnB gift card using Amazon credit but found that subsequent transactions were being held for review by Amazon and then cancelled.

I managed to get 1 card purchased on my account and then my additional purchases got held for review and eventually cancelled. I haven't tried since that deal to buy again so I don't know if it was a "you can buy 1 gift card and then additional purchases look suspicious so we'll hold for review and noticed that you tried to use Amazon credit" situation or just that this was the first time people tried to use the loophole en masse and now Amazon have caught on to it and shut the loophole. It still looks like you can checkout using Amazon credit but that might not mean you actually get the gift card.

In either case, I would suggest exercising some caution if you intend to do this.

      • Amazon credit is different from Amazon gift cards.

        • Perhaps I'm not using the correct terminology. The "money" I tried to use to buy the AirBnB gift cards was discounted Amazon Gift Cards from this Aldi deal. I recall exposing a code and typing that into my Amazon account where it just became available under my gift card balance and can be used on the checkout page.

I imagine this is the same "gift card balance" that OP is talking about since they mentioned they've redeemed the gift card against their account already.

What is Amazon credit then if I've been talking about Amazon Gift Cards?

@daanish: Credit that Amazon gives to you when buying certain items.

@daanish: In the world of Amazon, Amazon gift cards and Amazon credit refer to two different things:

It is important to point out this difference, because:

            • The redemption of Amazon credits and Amazon gift cards are handled differently by Amazon, and

            • The redemption of Amazon credits will invalidate cashback via Shopback or Cashrewards (unlike the redemption of Amazon gift cards).

As an aside, I have never had an issue using Amazon gift cards to purchase specialty gift cards (other than OnlyONE Visa gift cards), but that is because I very infrequently purchase gift cards on Amazon (probably once every 3-4 months) and it is almost always below $100 (although there was one purchase just under $500).

@WookieMonster: Thanks for the comprehensive explanation of the differences. I might try using some of my existing Gift card balance for a specialty card again then.

  • Why not buy stuff you'll need over the coming year, like toilet paper.

  • GC financial loss damage control.

    Promising start.. such an anti-climax.

List your Amazon account for 5% off in the classifieds…

  • I know someone who Amazon ac was compromised. All the gift card credits in there was spent on gift cards.
It the only target for Scammers in that situation.

  • Amazon banned use of Amazon gift cards to buy 3rd party gift cards finally?
